Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's called a lakeside brasserie for good reason. Located on the waterfront, Hughzies serves good food at an affordable price. We had Scallops, the Fish of the Day (a well-cooked fresh salmon), and the Battered Fish. The servings were plentiful and the salads and chips well prepared. Some restaurants serve the most appalling chips but these were juicy and crispy. The service is good and these a convivial atmosphere. Recommended.

Breakfast was simply ok - nothing excellent or enough to make us want to return. Raisin toast was thin sliced, store bought - not the thick style usually served at cafes. Staff were ok - but almost a little unenthusiastic.

We had breakfast at Hughzies after it was recommended by a friend. COVID sign-in using an App was easy and familiar. The restaurant was well set out under it's COVID-19 plan. All tables were well spaced apart, having the added benefit of keeping noise levels minimal, and making our breakfast seating arrangements very comfortable. We tried the eggs benedict with a twist and a big breakfast. Very enjoyable. The Hollandaise sauce was delicious. COVID opening hours are reduced, so it is worthwhile calling ahead to check opening hours and to make a booking to avoid disappointment.

My wife and I went there for lunch. It was a wet miserable day and cool but they had their sliding doors wide open. When we got there around 12:30pm there were 5 other tables with people at them and each one of them only had water, no food or coffee...nothing. After several minutes 3 other tables got their orders taken. When they got to us I found I could not order what I wanted and there were several items on the menu that were not available due to delivery problems. One of them was salmon which is readily available at any supermarket. As I eat seafood but no other meat I was basically left with fish and chips so we ended up leaving. One of the waitresses was constantly on her phone but the one who served us was very friendly and apologetic however we won't be back.

VERY friendly, helpful waitress Tuesday 22nd June. I had tempura battered fish with chips and salad. It was a very enjoyable meal at a reasonable price. Batter was perfect. I felt that the overall quality of food and service was very good and we will definitely be back.

Hughes has unfortunately gone downhill since being under new management. The food was alright but not great - the menu has changed and the offerings aren't as good.

Had lunch here recently just as the Covid pandemic lifted restrictions for a smaller amount of people to dine out. The place was well spaced apart from other diners and the menu scaled down to a lot less choices, what was available was very fresh and lovely.

Selected Hughzies for breakfast based on the reviews - Trip Adviser did NOT let us down! Simple well cooked meals, the omelette was one of the best I have eaten in years. Staff were pleasant and efficient, we will definitely be returning

So....we reluctantly decided to dine at Hughzies tonight. Reluctant because we remembered it being too predictable and not very creative. But after tonight we were reminded that there is value in consistency. From start to finish, the service was spot on. Never waited too long for anything, and the staff were lovely. We started with natural oysters and olives. The oysters were fresh and sweet. The olives were average (and that’s the worst criticism of the entire night). My glass of sparkling wine (which was the only option by the glass) was really nice - it was smooth, not fruity and not acidic as some sparklings can be. Hubby ordered a bottle of cab sauv - Pirrimimma - and it was outstanding. We both had the eye fillet steaks and loved them. They were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the jus, sautéed onions and sweet potato with it. I ordered a piccolo latte and the chocolate creme brûlée. I REALLY enjoy a good brûlée and this ticked all the boxes. It was fabulous. Hubby had the fig and ginger cake and he also thought it was right up there with his faves. All tolled we had a fantastic, perfectly paced night. So glad that even though we hoped Hughzies had “changed”, it hadn’t!

After reading the last few reviews we were hesitant to come here but my god are we glad we did. The service was wonderful not a rude waiter or being treated of a different class. The menu was wonderful and my kids were very happy with what was available. Overall this seems to be a family run business and you can tell we will defiantly be back very frequently. Well done Hughzies keep it up

Met with friends here for lunch. Asked twice if we wanted the wine menu and they seemed a bit disgusted when we all just drank water. However, the food was nice and the company good. The food came in reasonable time even though they were short of some of the food on the menu.
