We dined at Taste on a Saturday night and while it was busy the staff were vary accommodating. The food was excellent and well presented. The restaurant is BYO with corkage charged at a reasonable rate. What a brilliant idea - you can take your favourite bottle of wine (or 2) and enjoy the night. yes - we definitely will be back - hearty congratulations.

From the moment we walked through the door , the warm friendly greeting by the waitresses made us feel so welcome. We were pretty sure from reading reviews we were in for a special treat tonight . We had the duck spring rolls for entree , then the eye fillet and duck mains wow wow wow , outstanding, just Devine every mouthful. Finished off with the sticky date pudding & creme brûlée which was served with fruit and a happy birthday message from the chef . Our entire 3 course were delicious Thankyou all for such a lovely dinner and night Chris & Jenelle

Wonderful food and service

Great little restaurant on the main street in Sawtell. They were very accommodating, organising a highchair for our toddler (2.5yo). The place is small and cosy and was fully booked out when we went but wasn't noisy. The wait staff were very friendly and absolutely lovely with our son, talking to him and making him laugh. The food was great and well presented - we took the beef and barramundi special. For dessert we had the gluten free chocolate cake with orange icecream - delicious! Our son very much enjoyed sharing that. Overall we had a lovely experience and would highly recommend.

something is wrong

Our previous visit to Taste was extremely positive so we returned this evening to celebrate a birthday but it was not the experience expected. Maybe the chef was on holidays or having a bad evening but the presentation, the taste and the food overall was not good. Even the tea -was served in thick coffee cups not appropriate to the delicate tea. I dont think we will return.

A great Taste in Sawtell

We dined at Taste on a recent holiday to Sawtell. We wanted to eat a really enjoyable meal, not one that consisted of fries etc, and upon seeing the menu outside thought this sounded pretty good. We were warmly greeted and given a choice of tables to sit at, and shown the food and drinks menu to peruse. It was a Wednesday night and as is he case in most hospitality venues around Australia, staff are in short supply, so there was just the chef and his wife working. However, that did not detract from our experience at all. Kev and I decided to have the lamb shank on a bed of sweet potato mash, with green beans and a delicious gravy. The lamb shank was HUGE, and I couldn’t eat all of mine, but Kev managed to polish his off. We were glad we had decided to forego an entree. We did however decide to have dessert after a while. Kevin chose the special - warm flourless chocolate cake with butterscotch ice cream rolled in pistachio praline, while I opted for the raspberry crepe brûlée. Kevin raved over his dessert saying the cake was so light and the crumb on the ice cream was yum. My raspberry crème brûlée was equally delish and quite a large serve. I couldn’t finish mine so Kev did the honours and finished it off for me. There was a good wine menu to select from as well. As we were leaving we noticed the chef was having to do the washing up - poor Bevan! We had a lovely night and would eagerly return for another meal.

A perfect evening

Coffs Harbour has a lot of restaurants, but so many are very ordinary. It's nice to find one that's truly exceptional. I was worried that it may be a little hot on a summer evening, but the entire front of the restaurant opens to the street, so you're effectively eating al fresco, with a nice breeze, supplemented by the overhead fans. I was in a group of five, and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our various dishes. Service was exemplary. The acoustics were good too, so even the slightly hard of hearing in our group were able to participate fully in the conversation, something that's not always possible in restaurants with lots of hard surfaces. Their only error was omitting a couple of drinks from our bill, but we brought this to their attention, as we all want to go to heaven!

Tastes Wonderful

Whilst visiting Sawtell we came upon Taste and had dinner there. What a Gem! We had the pate and scallops for entre. The pate was outstanding! For mains I had the twice cooked duck (I won) and my husband had the port special which he enjoyed (envious of my duck). The service was excellent with a knowledgeable waitress.

The food is excellent, but the menu never changes.

I'm not sure why the owner/chef doesn't change the menu. What they offer is excellent, but whenever I go there (and I'm a regular), the menu is always the same. There is only one vegetarian meal. It has been the same for the past 6+ months. Why? Is the chef not that confident or maybe just isn't up to the job? They need to change the menu on a regular basis and also offer more variety for vegetarian/vegan diners.

It is nice when your expectations from previous reviews are satisfied as they were soon after the restaurant reopened following the virus lockdown. While the menu was limited the meal choice was good and well prepared and presented. The staff were were very pleasant with their service. Decor satisfactory. Definitely value for money

What a dining experience ! Service friendly fun and helpful. The food absolutely sensational. The Chef is clearly very knowledgeable and is very talented. I have been a few times and disagree with a previous review I don’t want the menu to change it’s perfect and I know for instance that those duck spring rolls will be there and so many items I look forward to. There is a specials board which gives you a great selection of what’s in season as was the sensational barramundi last night. Best food in Coffs Harbour !

The menu NEVER changes.

The food is fine, it should be, because the menu hasn't changed for the past 8 years. I'm not sure what is wrong with the management, or the chefs, but to serve EXACTLY the same menu for years on end is a sad reflection on either the competency of the chefs or owners. "Crispy Potato Roesti" is the only vegetarian offering, the same for probably the past 8 years at least. What is wrong with the owners of this restaurant?

Fantastic!

We chose Taste to celebrate both my husband’s 70th and our first evening out in three months. We were not disappointed! The service and the food are excellent, as always. Every effort has been made to accomodate the Covid 19 recommendations but still make every guest feel welcome and special. Thank you all so much for making our night one to remember, especially in these uncertain times.

Taste is a friendly and intimate restaurant in a lovely location in the village of Sawtell. The tables are set out so you never feel you are on top of other diners, and the background music is unobtrusive. The food is beautifully fresh and cooked in the kitchen which is visible to diners. The menu has something for everyone and is cooked to a very high standard. The duck spring rolls are to die for. I hope they bring back the pate which was a favourite. The duck and potato rosti is moist, flavoursome and filling. The steak is always cooked to perfection and the coffee is top notch. Jenny and Luke do a great job at front of house. They are both knowledgeable and friendly. Jenny has always provided good advice on the right choice of wine. If you want a high quality dining experience with great food and friendly service then Taste is for you.

Absolutely lovely evening, we shared scallops to start and then I had the eye fillet, cooked beautifully and Joe had twice cooked duck, absolutely delicious. Food cooked and presented perfectly and service amazing. Thank you.

Don’t miss out.

Taste is the quality restaurant in Sawtell. We have eaten here with friends and family over the past 10 years and are never disappointed. This is a family run business that takes pride in what they deliver. All of the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The quality of food, wine and service are consistently high. The prices are extremely reasonable and affordable relative to the overall experience. Recommendations. My wife and I can’t go past the Pate or Duck spring rolls for entree. Both are amazing. For mains the steak is a good quality cut always cooked according to preference. The twice cooked duck is moist and flavoursome. I am not a desert person but give the cheesecake a go. If you are on the Coffs Coast put Taste on your list, you will not be disappointed.
