Was looking forward to a lovely seafood feast and everything started well. Jacqui, the owner showed us to our table and even gave us a choice whether indoors or out. The menu, albeit not large still had many options with prices of entrees around $25-30 and mains $40+. Service here is very good although the meals (entree and mains) came out very quick and rushed. The flavours were nice but sadly things got not-so-great. My prawn and avocado entree had two slithers of avocado. I held off on making a complaint but when my wife’s main came out we had to make an unfortunate but necessary complaint. Her pasta and lobster main had about 3 tiny pieces of lobster. We made the complaint and we were given some pieces of lobster to rectify things however the evening was soured. Jacqui did give us the Prosecco for free but for a bill that came to $140 we expected so much more quality. Again the staff were very good and Jacqui was very apologetic however our evening was soured and hence the review score reflects the meal. Had the meals been better and the meals spaced out some more rather than rushed then the score would be so much better.

Day 14 of our 20-day trip and we were driving from Batemans Bay to Merimbula for a 4-night stay at the Beach House at the NRMA park. We don't get to Merimbula very often now but always have at least one lunch at Wheelers. We went there when it first opened as a very basic place serving lunches as well as selling oysters. One year, we walked there along the highway from Fish Pen and decided to walk back along the beach. It took ages and we had to navigate through a large swamp before we found the ocean. The place looks very different now and was not as busy as we'd expected for 1pm on a Sunday. However, a very big group arrived at about 1.30. The welcome was friendly and we were quickly seated and provided with a beer for me and a bottle of zero alcohol pink fizz for her. The service continued to be friendly and efficient throughout the lunch.
Entrees were lime prawns for her and, because I couldn't choose between fishcake and prawn with avocado, I had both. Fantastic. For mains, she had the tagliatelle and I had the battered fish and chips. Both very good. Three glasses of Kosciuszko chardonnay went well with the entrees and my main. It was a lovely lunch and we would have gone back but they were closed for the remainder of our stay.

We were dissappointed with this visit to Wheelers. The bar manager was not welcoming at all when we arrived or when he delivered our drinks to the table .I ordered two entrees after oysters. The two entrees were delivered at the same time while others were eating their mains. We have been there may times while on holiday in Merimbula and it was so much better. Our friends didn't enjoy it as much.

The takeaway from this establishment is hands down the worst value for fish and chips ever. Apart from not receiving what we ordered, had to ask the cashier to check our order, who promptly told us to stand aside and she would check after she had served those waiting to order. So there we stood. Out partial order in a cardboard box going cold. Some considerable time later, “oh yes, I can see your order now, apologies “. Part of the missing order was then passed over, it wasn’t until we had returned to our holiday accomodation we discovered more cold items were missing. Apart from this the quality and quantity of the battered fish was terrible, a small flat fillet of nothing, you can get better in a frozen box from Aldi. The accompanying chips also left a lot to be desired. It is never a problem if what you pay for is what you get but we felt absolutely ripped off. Wheelers please employ people that have people skills, not a cranky individual manning a cash register that cannot even take an order correctly

Very disappointing evening. Service was terrible, waitress paid no attention to our group. Food was over cooked, flavourless. Meals all came out at staggered times, therefore we were unable to share our entrees and all ate separately. We don’t mind paying high price for food if the quality and service is there. There was no quality here in the food and I don’t think they know what the definition of service is. Save your money and try somewhere else.

We have been going to Wheelers both restaurant and take away section for years. We have been supporting in low season as we would often go to the take away section post swim lessons for lunch.
Today I picked up some relatives from the airport and we were in a bit of a rush to eat and head home. We ate and I paid the bill in a hurry. Food was good, no complaint there. I saw a 10% for tax which I didn't make much of until we got home and my husband was asking why the bill was so much and it didnt add up. Looking up online, there is a fine print on the old menu which says that Sunday is a surcharge of 10%. Im pretty sure the current menu does not have that nor the surcharge for card payment. The bill was also misleading as they wrote the 10% surcharge as gst, not as surcharge for being Sunday. On top of that there was an added eftpos surcharge. So instead of $213, we paid $236.64. We know that the restaurant isn't a cheap eat but to have the sneaky added 10% Sunday surcharge plus eftpos surcharge left a bad taste in our mouth.
Would appreciate being told about the 10% Sunday surcharge upon seating and have a sticker on eftpos machine like most places do to warn of surcharge.

The last night of our camping holidays, we like to go out for dinner, we chose Wheelers on this trip, and I am glad we did.
The staff are really attentive, helpful and friendly. They are obviously well trained in how the owners want to present their business
We had the seafood platter, and while priced a little higher than the quantity provided, it was delicious. The char grilled octopus is the best I have had in a long while.
Sirloin was good, as was the sticky date pudding.
Can't fault the experience

We have dined at Wheelers on several occasions, the first being over 25 years ago. The last one before today was about 10 years ago.
The transformation from oyster shed to the layout and decor of a fine dining restaurant of the highest order was impressive.
The quality and presentation of the platter was equal to and surpassed many of the top seafood restaurants recently frequented in the UK and Ireland.
The service was of the same high standard as was team members' product knowledge.
We will not be waiting another 10 years for our return
Thanks to Wheelers management and staff for a wonderful lunch

We have been going to wheelers for many years when we are in Pambula. It has been our favourite restaurant over the years. Until this year, they have changed and minimised the menu which now has lack of variety unlike previous years. Wheelers is an expensive restaurant and to be presented the menu on a photo copied piece of paper was pretty poor form. I understand at times the menu needs to be changed but to change it totally and remove all the old meals doesn’t seem right. The old menu was great and as the old saying goes if it ain’t broken don’t fix it. Please put back on some of the meals from the previous menu eg: surf n turf. Crème brûlée. Even the oysters weren’t up to standard.

Hi Flynn, I'm so sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your experience at Wheeler's this time, but am honoured that we have been your favourite Restaurant in the area over the years - thank you for that! Please note that we are still using single-use Menus since covid is still circling... we can't wait to have more beautiful ones, but feel that is best to keep the touch points minimised for now. I hope you will agree that this is best for our guests - not a cost-saving exercise at all (quite the opposite!). I'm disappointed to see that you didn't enjoy the Menu, as lots of our guests just love it, and have been savouring the new flavours that are on offer. The price of goods is limiting our ability to offer all the things from the past. A good surf n turf would be astronomical now, with the way that things are going. Our dessert menu has lots of divine options, so whilst missing the ever-popular Bailey's crème brûlée, it is good to try something new, too. We do still have the lime prawns on the menu - both as an entree and as a main - so some things are still the same!
We have had trouble with our oyster supply with all the rain the south coast has experienced recently, so I apologise that your oysters weren't as beautiful as usual. Hopefully, next time will be much better!
Thank you for visiting and for taking the time to write constructive feedback. In the future, please let us know how you are feeling at the time of visiting so that we can have the opportunity to fix it for you right then and there! Our Chefs are amazing and are happy to adapt meals where possible, to make our guests as happy and satisfied as possible.
All the very best, and thank you again for visiting.
Kind regards,
Jacqui

We had an nice meal at Wheeler’s, but it was overpriced.
Sourdough bread… $9 for a serving of two small rolls, plus an extra $3 for a third roll. Admittedly it came on a piece of slate and included some carmel flavoured butter.
A dozen oysters… almost $4 each, please.
Kid’s fish & chips… $16.50. Want a kid’s drink or ice-cream? That will be extra.
Main serve of fish & chips with 4 small flat head tails… $36
The seafood bisque… quite nice but perhaps a bit salty… $44
And on top of it all, just for good measure, a 10% surcharge was applied because … well, no reason was given.

We wanted a seafood dinner as an early Anniversary treat, since there are not many decent seafood Restaurants near us we decided to give the Caravan a run and spend some time in Pambula. We were encouraged by the reviews that we had read and were not disappointed.
We chose the Seafood platter for two with some sparkling wine and Pinot Grigio to compliment the platter.
The platter was even better than our expectations, the freshest osters that we had ever had, the flathead tails were better than the previous best tails that we had in Beauty Pint Tasmania.
Great service, great meal and good ambience, will visit again when we are in the area again.

We went for afternoon tea. There was a lot of confusion when we ordered Devonshire tea for 2. We asked for coffee and a scone each. My coffee order was incorrect, but the woman delivering same to our table advised me very firmly that is what I had asked for specifically! We had planned to return prior to this interaction, but soon changed our minds. I wonder what happened to 'the customer always being right'???

Hi ladies! So sorry that we got your coffee order wrong. The two of us serving you both understood your order to be in a cup, not a mug. Hopefully the coffee and scones were lovely, however! Please note we did make a special allowance to serve you both coffees rather than a pot of tea, as is priced for the Devonshire Tea for Two offering. We went the extra mile with your friend, who asked for a mug, but didn't realise that you wanted one too. Our sincere apologies. We were juggling a few things at the time and are sorry for our mistake.

Dined here pre-Covid era and enjoyed our meals very much. Something has gone very wrong.
I had the Vietnamese oysters to start and they were just OK as the flavour of the oysters was overpowered by the sauce. My husband did enjoy the fish tacos; hence the two dots.
I opted for the bouillabaisse, accompanied by a piece of toasted bread. The seafood (squid, clams, prawns, mussels) was tasteless, as was the broth, which seemed like water and tomato paste and had no flavour! I was tempted to add serious amounts of salt and pepper but there was none on the table and the serving staff were charging around like headless chooks (the restaurant was fairly busy).
My husband had barramundi, farmed obviously but where? He’d had some elsewhere that was good and so chose it again. It was totally tasteless.
So disappointing! A seafood restaurant should do better.
PS: The wine was fine!

Wheelers seriously? Your service has gone south. Went to your side oyster bar and fish n chip area for lunch. Stood in line for nearly 10 minutes waiting for your staff to work out how to charge a woman in front of me her bill back to her room. Finally got to the counter and ordered some oysters and 2 pieces of flathead with chips. Sat outside and waited and waited and waited. 40 minutes later and when I saw a gentleman near me who got served after me receive his meal I went back inside. The woman staff member had trouble finding my docket then eventually found it, mildly apologised and said she would get my order done straight away. Another 20 minutes later my order arrived Hooray! The oysters were lovely as usual and then I opened up my fish n chips to find that they had not given me my order of chips. They did however give me an extra piece of fish mind you the sizes of the fish pieces were very small at $8 a piece! The fish tasted well tasteless I have had flathead here before and it has been sweet and tasty this tasted like it had been frozen.
What a sad experience if Jackie the owner (if she still owns it) was aware of this I’m sure she would be not too pleased!
