Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have been remiss not to have offered praise to Renee and Hugh for Banksia in Pambula. Sorry I was not honest about when I was last there. I have eaten at their establishment three times and I had not shared the experience at the...time. We locals are very lucky to have Hugh and Renee in our town. It is by far the best fine dining on the Sapphire Coast. Hugh's sublime cooking together with Renee's front of house natural charm, make this lovingly restored, historical bank building your next choice for a lovely lunch or dinner.More

We have been to this wonderful restaurant on several occasions some are special occasions others are just because. The building that the restaurant is in has been wonderfully restored which adds to the wonderful feeling that you have while eating beautifully prepared and presented meal.We...tend to have matching wines with each course which adds to the experience.Fantastic service and exceptional food.More

What an awesome find. Magnificent three course set dinner; the dessert was a particular stand-out. Excellent wine options and the owner, Renee, was lovely. She told me the building is from 1902 and a former bank (the safe is used for the wine). The house...looks amazing from the outside and inside. Cozy dining room, open fire and wonderful decor. I felt so comfortable there. Thanks for a fantastic meal.More

Set $85 p/h 3 course menu. Expectations were high given the price and web info. Understand that profit needs to be made but charging $2 per 1/2 slice of bread was excessive. Rosemary needed to be added to warm olives to enhance flavor. Entre: Good...concept but weak contrast in flavors. ( perhaps use "real" tarama rather then foam). Main course: Good concept. Lamb very well cooked and arranged. Humos foam and sauce were too insipid. Beans over cooked and tasteless. Dessert: Good fig flavor, and presented well. Suggest 2 smaller biscuits (easier to eat)More

If you like to eat and enjoy fine dining then Banksia is a must. A small space in an historic house (only ten diners at each sitting) the menu changes fortnightly with 3 courses and the option of matching wines. Renee and Huw accommodated our...food preferences by doing a seafood main course in place of the meat course. Professional service and creative flavoursome food. Interesting wine choices. Our stay in Pambula included three dinners at Banksia, each one a treat.More

We were able to secure a booking for dinner tonight. A magnificent experience. The atmosphere, service and food were all 5 star. It has to be my favourite restaurant of all time. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a great dining experience. Thankyou Banksia for a...memorable night.More

This classy restaurant is a victim of the TripAdvisor rating system.Languishing at number 10 behind coffee shops selling the usual fare is farcical. We have been in the Merimbula area for 5 weeks and have visited a number of restaurants. This is by far the best.At the...moment it is only open one night a week for 2 sittings with a fixed no choice 3 course offering.Last night we had an amazing double cooked goat cheese souffle followed by eye fillet and slow cooked beef cheek which melted in your mouth.Dessert has a layered lamington cake with exquisite blood orange sorbet. All the wait staff were very friendly but the hostess Renee is a standout.Do yourself a favour when you get out of lockdown and come to the far south coast and eat at this restaurant.More

Merimbula has been our home away from over the last year and Banksia is our go to place to eat. The food is nothing short of spectacular and we love the way it changes each week based on the season and local produce. A few...favours its like picking your favourite child, but the cheese soufflé, the beef cheeks & duck. To be honest we have not had a bad dish and given the menu and quality of the food it is great value for money. The service is local and friendly as is the atmosphere of the old bank. Go in winter and enjoy the open fire.More

I’ve been trying for months to get a booking here when visiting family in the area. Finally got to have dinner with my daughter. A delight from start to finish. Although there’s a set three course menu, they readily made changes to meet our rather...tricky dietary needs. A beautiful pumpkin ravioli was substituted for the mussels. And a tasty aubergine parmigiana for my vege daughter instead of the perfectly cooked lamb that I enjoyed. Service is professional but relaxed. The ambience in the old bank with its log fire on a cool night was wonderful. Don’t miss this little gem i you’re in the area but make sure you book ahead.More

Rabbit entre was pretty good but the slow cooked pork neck lacked taste although was tender. The accompanying crispy pigs ears while adding some texture didn't quite work for me. The buckwheat crepe could have been lighter with less chocolate sauce.

Over the course of the week we went to 3 of the "better" restaurants in the area, and this clearly was the best. The food was excellent and fine dining; beautifully cooked and flavoursome to the maximum. The price of the courses was the best...for the quality of the food and the serving sizes. One place we went "upstairs", which had great sounding combinations, but was almost totally lacking in flavour. The serving sizes were small; basically half the sizes of Banksia, but $2-3 more. The service at Banksia was very good as well as the "upstairs" restaurant. The surroundings at Banksia was good and we enjoyed our 2.5 hours. Overall? Fantastic!!!More

Our anniversary dinner at Banksia was wonderful! The ambience, service, and 3 course set menu with matching wines were all excellent. This week’s menu included kingfish, lamb, and passion fruit brûlée. The wines were all beautiful and perfectly matched with each course. Amazing to have...such a restaurant of this quality in this area thanks to Renee and Huw!More

We treated ourselves to dinner at Banksia and were not disappointed. We decided to ask for matched wines and oh wow. Everything was perfect. The meal was just enough - perfect flavours - none too intense but so well matched - it all just flowed...and we enjoyed every course. Great service made it an all round winner. We are so lucky to have this quality locally. We'll be back when we can find the time!More
