Kohlis has been the quintessential Indian dining experience in Nowra for many years. I last visited more than a decade ago and memories of superb food and a great dining experience have remained. I returned recently to their newly renovated premises for a birthday dinner. Not many places were open on Monday so this was the logical choice. Even arriving around 8pm, we were welcomed, seated and service wasn't much trouble. A bit of cleaning up like sweeping of the floors occurred when we were eating but you can't expect a place to wait until everyone has left late on a Monday night to begin closing up. Food was a touch above a typical Indian suburban eatery and prices did command this but were not excessive. Servings were fairly generous but some items a little lean - particularly side dishes. Not sure if being a Monday or being part of a predominantly Anglo-Saxon community distracted from a full flavoursome experience but dishes served, although proposed to be "mild", really lacked any significant flavour or spice. I was looking around the table for the salt and pepper for my lamb saag (pictured) as it was quite bland and not a typical representation of the dish. At other places the dish, whilst not hot, does provide a taste experience a little more than pureed spinich and cream. It's great for Nowra but unfortunately probably doesn't reflect expectations of not only traditional Indian palates but also similar dishes served in Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne's more casual suburban takeaways.

If you want to sample a range of curries, the banquet Thali set menu offers very good value. We tried the vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The vegetarian option was especially tasty. The non-vegetarian option was very good too. The service was friendly. The seating was comfortable.

This restaurant delivers consistently great food and service with reasonable prices. The place is always clean and tidy. There is one thing I don’t like.. the air conditioning is quite ineffective during some of the hotter day.. I guess I change when I visit. So as always, will we come back?? Most definitely.. Please don’t change anything well except maybe the air conditioning..

My hubby and I went for dinner for the second time to the new premises on Saturday 10th April . Sadly, we were left with the same feelings as the first time. The food was generally fair (much less saltier than it used to be in the past) but was barely warm. The entree's were very tasty - but cold; the main meal was a chicken madras and whilst tasty, the low temperature of the dish let it down badly; the rice was delicious but again barely warm. They were incredibly busy and the takeaway service was full on to say the least - which is great for the owners but I suspect that is why there were people waiting too long for meals etc. We feel the seating by the open door is a disaster and they would do well to try and now make some sort of an entrance lobby/hall to protect diners from the elements; the COVID station caused issues as it was right at the door with people trying to come in and out through the small doorway. We could not recommend this for a cosy night out as the concrete floor and stark surroundings meant that the cacophony of noise was deafening at times and you had to shout across the table at each other! :-( I hope this is taken in the vein it is meant and not just seen as another winge. We LOVE Indian food so WILL be back for a takeaway but as for sitting in? We don't think so for now.

Best Indian in the southern area. Great tasting food and staff are nice. Down side, staff seem to rush you . Taking plates while others eating , asking would you like take away containers while still eating. This put a big downer on the restaurant. Food wise it was good. Needed more heat. Made for the Aussie tastes .

Food was lovely but servings were small and food took ages to come out. They were much more focused on the takeaways that kept going out and forgot us eating in. The restaurant was almost empty except for people sitting waiting to pick up takeaways. We got there at 5 for a booking to have an early dinner and were waiting till well after 6 for our mains and the entree plates were still waiting on the table. We are regular customers but usually get takeaway and now I see why. We reminded them we were getting mains but by the time it came out it was cold and we were thoroughly disappointed. No apology or anything. Just obviously forgot about us. Has really put us off going back which is unfortunate as we normally enjoy the food.

Decided to give Kohli’s another try after years of disappointment and recent favourable advice from friends. Unfortunately, Kohli’s has not changed. We ordered take away - two dishes we wanted from the online menu were not available, staff had no idea of the menu. We waited fifteen minutes over designated time for pickup, left standing with no word from staff. Food is expensive and we returned home, missing our order of naan bread. Too far away to return. While food is tasty, service is still poor.

We've visited this Restaurant few times now and the service is great friendly staff food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. The Lamb Saag is my favourite dish, the Lamb is locally sourced and the best Lamb I've had in NSW. Oh this Restaurant doesn't charge credit card fees for using American Express either. Thanks to all the staff and keep up the great work.

We understand Kohli's is a bit of a Nowra institution and has recently moved into new premises. It had also been recommended by the couple we bought our Berry home from, so we wanted to give it a go. It was very busy when we arrived with most tables occupied and lots of take-away diners waiting. We booked a table; and it was ready - glad we did. We ordered 2 mains, rice and cheese naan. All good, well presented, tasty and served quickly, considering the number of people in the restaurant. But it felt like we could have been eating anywhere, even a club dining room! It doesn't feel like a 'special' restaurant and definitely doesn't feel like an Indian restaurant. There's no soul, no atmosphere! I think they missed a huge opportunity to make this place feel like a different eating experience. Right now it feels like a nondescript restaurant serving Indian food. So right now, Kohli's scores high on food and service but low on a dining "experience". We'll be back in a few months to see if anything's changed.

We have been here before when on holiday and were pretty happy with the food which is why we decided to return again but unfortunately this time around was not worth it. First we received aloo tiki which taste more like pea than potato but was edible. Then we got our curries, naans and rice. That’s where the meals really took a turn for the worse with two out of three curries having a bitter and burnt spice taste to them (we were lucky if we managed half between three people) and the third was a mango chicken which was extremely sweet and had no spice Flavour (seemed like mango pulp more than anything - have had this dish a lot so we know what it should taste like). Half of the naan breads were burnt as well. Rice was plentiful. We took home “leftovers” to be polite but they were ditched after we left. The servers were efficient enough but for $100+, it was a very disappointing visit. I don’t know whether we were simply unlucky on the night we went or if it’s gone downhill but I doubt we will be back.

New restaurant is way too big and too noisy. The pakoras were dry/burnt, the service was poor and amateurish and the mains were average. The highlight of the evening was the mango lassi. Much preferred the old restaurant.

Mum and I booked a table at 5pm tonight. When the waitress cleared the extra settings at 5.10 we ordered our drinks. At 5.20 our drinks came and we requested our order to be taken. The entree arrived at 6.35. And at 6.55 we asked the waitress to put our main meals in for takeaway and organise the bill as we are leaving. This is the last time in 15yrs that we will give Kohli's that last chance and its very disappointing. The meals have always been beautiful but the service is so extremely bad. Tonight showed they look after the takeaway orders before booked, seated clients.

Our table was very rocky …so we asked to move to another table which was also rocky so we put a business card under the leg .. They forgot about an entree we ordered then bought the entree out after the main meal The rice was cold. And the beer was left sitting on the bench for a while that they had to add to the glass to give a head to the beer before bringing it to our table .. the food was very nice and we enjoyed very much

Chicken tikka masala was very good. Rich full flavours that you expect from this dish. The Mango Chicken was a little sweet for my liking but my partner enjoyed it as she doesnt like spicy flavours. Great atmosphere even on a really hot night

This is a great Indian restaurant, they have been here for years which tells you it's good as places don't last long in Nowra if they are not. Visitors from Sydney tell us it's better than their local ones. Food is consistently good and reasonably priced and even more so with discount tickets from the Rewards Club. We have tried most of the dishes and have never gone hungry or unsatisfied.
