Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If the level of service is about treating every client as a local then Dulcie's failed. We are locals and book at Dulcie's when family come to visit. We booked days before for an outdoor table. Our booking was confirmed. On arrival we were told...inside was the only option in a brasque manner. We had to agree give the tourist season and likelihood getting a booking anywhere else in Merimbula. If it was any other time of the year we would have walked out. On the way to our indoor table we passed lots of empty outdoor tables with reserved placards. We felt a little out out that we were selected for an indoor table when so many outdoor tables were unoccupied. We asked another wait staff who arrange an outdoor table. No sooner had we settled into the table the original wait staff informed us that we only had about 30 minutes before the people arrived who had reserved an outdoor table. She was quite aware that we had also booked an outdoor table and was not informed otherwise. We took the non confrontation approach to smile and wave and not take the obvious position that the the next group of people to arrive could be offered an indoor table. The same wait staff reminded us three times that we had to leave soon. We ordered our meals and drinks. Rushed through them and left in time for the next people to get their outdoor table. The dinner was not enjoyable, rushed and a disaster. After years using Dulcie's for our younger visitors, never again. Generally, Merimbula is known poor service in food and retail. This was a new low standard and we left feeling violated and annoyed. I hope Dulcie's can learn from this feedback. I would certainly like to know when you have so I can try again.More

The place seems very friendly until you discover the people running it have no actual concept of hospitality and should be in charge of running Sydney trains instead. The burgers are good, the chips are awful. That is all they serve. And if you put...in an order for burgers at 9:58 pm, chips are all that you are gonna get, coz they stop making burgers at 10pm. On the dot. Not that they will bother to tell anyone, its just that the locals know, and if you are not a local, tough luck. It is venues like that which give Australia its ‘cannot be bothered’ reputation overseas.More

So I want to start by saying that they did try to address most of my issues. I ordered the fish burger, and hubby had the Dulcie's burger. His was fine to good - but I had serious orderer's remorse. The fish on my burger...was totally, and I do mean totally, inedible. It was as tough as a piece of rubber, pretty much cold right through, and had an unpleasant burnt taste. I had also ordered a side of fries and these were limp and also barely lukewarm when served. I took one bite of burger, ate 2 mouthfuls of chips, and then left the rest. As this cost $34 ($24 for burger and $10 for "a lot of chips" - which was actually a very small serve), I was really, really unimpressed. It was a busy night and although I got up and looked, I did not find any waitstaff to talk to about this before hubby finished his meal. This made sense of the sign I had noticed on arrival at the kitchen van that read "don't talk to the chefs about any issues with your meals, we are busy. Talk to the waitstaff." We were not approached by any waitstaff until my hubby had finished his meal. I had left most of mine untouched, although I did eat the top of the bun with a slice of tomato, some lettuce and a nice dressing. When the waitstaff cleared the table, she asked if it wasn't good, so I told her that no, it was not good. She did offer me a free drink (I don't drink alcohol) or a bowl of chicken wings (which I don't like), but by then we were ready to go. As you have to pre-pay for your food, we had already been charged and there was no offer of any refund. Additionally, the "background music" here was so loud, it was very hard to have any kind of conversation over the meal. Overall, the place looked nice, and my hubby's meal was fine, so I guess I just got the short straw, but it was truly dreadful. I'm not sure I would go back. But if I did, I would NOT order the fish burger again.More

Chanced upon Dulcie's Cottage last night. Merrimbula has a pub and an R.S.L. and both are fine. But if you want something a bit different, a bit cool and intimate, then this is the place. The staff are lovely, the background music low key and...retro. And the burgers are yummy.More

We went to Dulcie’s Cottage, recommended by a friend of ours – his favourite burger place and they also make excellent whiskey cocktails. Our friend made reservations and I’m glad he did – a popular place for adults. We ordered and paid for our burgers...and drinks at the bar. I ordered BBQ Burger (ground beef; cheese, bacon, sliced white onion, jalapenos, creamy slaw and hickory smoked BBQ sauce) and a side of chips. The burger looked amazing and generous, tasted delicious, fresh ingredients, not the best I’ve had, but it was filling - the chips were your ordinary frozen chips. My wife ordered Shroom Burger (slow cooked field mushroom, cheese, green oak lettuce, vine ripened tomato, sliced white onion and secret sauce). She absolutely loved her burger and said it bursts with flavours, super juicy and that secret sauce they have added, was what made her burger complete. If you want an unconventional burger, with that perfect flavour combination, then this is definitely the place – you’re not overwhelmed with a list of burgers, only six to choose from – but they have covered everything… beef, chicken, fish, veggie. However, you have the option to create your own burger, simply select what ingredients you want from ‘Build Your Own Burger’– nothing is too difficult. What I’m more amazed with, is that the burgers are made in a tiny restored 1950s caravan kitchen – just outside of Dulcie’s Cottage. They also have an amazing bar with an array of alcoholic beverages to choose from – they make exceptional cocktails and also have craft beers in a can. We didn’t have to wait long for our burgers to be delivered to our tables and the staff are exceptional and super friendly. Dulcie’s definitely has the ambience where it’s a fun, lay-back kind of place for friends to catch-up, even ideal for after work drinks (indoors or outdoors), just to wind down and talk the night away. If you have spare time, the walls are covered in old photos of the area and the Goodsill’s (the original owners of this homestead). Highly recommend this place – it did not disappoint.More

Ordered takeaway. Arrived to pick it up , was told 20 minutes, no problem. I saw the young host guy , Josh … put an order into a brown bag and it was put back in the kitchen. He looked at me and walked away...into the bar. I walked up 5 mins later to ask if my order was ready, they gave me the bag that had been sitting in the kitchen for 10 minutes, MY order! Seriously!? Incompetent , rude and clueless host. He just looked at me as I walked away and said “oh , oops” Every time I go there , there is an issue or drama.More

The lovely bartender proclaimed the burgers were perhaps the best I'd ever taste - big big call but he was right. Had the Dulcie's burger and don't know why it ticks all the boxes but the flavour combination of all the ingredients is just exceptional....Great staff, lovely interiors if you're not out on the deck. How they manage to produce such top notch produce from a tiny caravan kitchen in the grounds is beyond me - but tey certainly do.More

I love this place, been here many times over the years - but to stand up at the bar to order a drink and discover that I am invisible is not nice. I had to interrupt the waitress to ask where my booked table is....Since the majority of clients here tonight are probably my age group maybe the young lady needs to be aware of those that can afford your drinks I am sure the chips and burger will be up to it’s normal good standard. And it is a beautiful evening in beautiful merimbulaMore

We actually had to wait over an hour for food because their ordering system malfunctioned and lost a bunch of orders, but the staff were very apologetic and explained what happened. This rating does not take that into account because the burgers were worth the...wait. Best cheeseburger I’ve had in a long time. Nice atmosphere too.More

Decent, not wonderful burgers and whilst we got our food quickly, we had a wiater who could hardly speak or understand English and 2 others in our party had a long wait to get their food. Definitely the "hippest" place in Merimbula, but that's not...saying much, we don't come ere for "hip", BUT, beautiful views out the back, nice outdoor setting, cool bar area, just needs to up its game with service and food quality (burgers are very messy and greasy). Worth a visit once.More
