Wait staff so friendly and accommodating, good beer on tap. Food very well done, but order sides to complement your main and you will be happy with the amount of food. And before you complain about pricing, think about where you are, the cost of freight and the availability of fresh produce. Family frequented here for coffee and muffins, great variety but go early as they sell out quickly. Lunch was also a favourite, the lamb pie was popular, their salad rolls come highly recommended, and even the goat cheese burger.

Brunch review Great brunch. Home made muffins were unbelievable, coffee was great (even if it was, understandably Long Life milk) and other breakfast brunch items kept everyone at the table very happy. Prices were also very reasonable for the island

We came here most nights of our stay over the Christmas / New Year Period. It is good that it is often the only place open on public holidays and NYE while everything else is closed. I had a great experience with the staff, especially our waiter on multiple occasions Saxon. However the food would always be expensive (especially with the weekend + public holiday surcharge) but the young and friendly staff always made us feel welcome.

We went to Anchorage for our first night dinner on the island. It was really disappointing. For $36 I got seafood dish with fishwings, 2 prawns, some mussels which were smaller than my small fingernail, two tiny cubes of potato and a cherry tomato cut in half. I was looking forward to some local fish. We are aware that the weather dictates fishing, but Ive been to remote islands all over the world and this place takes ripping off to a new level. My partner had a vegetarian sphagetti for dinner and serving was small and tasteless. Coffee was $8, and around at the museum its heaps cheaper. Our meal at Anchorage put us off dining in Lord Howe Island and we ate at our accommodation every other night and enjoyed great local fish and steak. Prices greatly fluctuate on how much they feel like charging at the time. They have a 10% surcharge in weekends. Quiche one weekday was $9, the next weekday it was $9.90

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us - we apologise that you felt let down by our team. I have spoken to our team and we were unaware of your dissatisfaction at the time, which our team would have promptly rectified if there was an issue with your dining experience. To clarify on your point of us 'taking ripping off to a new level' - we are the only restaurant on the Island to use a private aircraft to provide fresh food to our kitchen - our prices reflect the time and effort that we undertake to do this. We apologise that you felt our prices were unreasonable - however, we disagree. To also clarify on our pricing structure, in accordance to Australian standards we do surcharge on weekends and public holidays which allows us to operate during these times and continue to provide our service to the Island. Again, I apologise that you were confused by this however in accordance to industry standards - we clearly print this on every menu and our staff are able to answer any questions you have. To also address you comment on our fresh produce pricing fluctuating, this is directly reflective of the ingredients and seasonality of the produce. Thanks again for your feedback - we are disappointed that you did not let our team know that you were dissatisfied at the time as we would have very happily addressed all of your above concerns. Kind regards | Alanna

You are rather stuck with this venue for breakfast but some of the staff are not all that happy with dealing with larger groups even though our visits were prearranged. Also our group were limited to a fixed half hour to get our food. They really need to lift their game with groups. The food was quite good though but limited if you did the prearranged buffet. You could pay more to get fresh fruit and pastries but that was probably more a reflection on our tour operator.

You know something isn't quite right when you turn up a few minutes early for a booking and immediately get the feeling that you've put the staff out somehow. "Do they actually want us here," I wondered as we helped ourselves to a spare table for two. We then ordered dinner and two glasses of wine. And then began waiting and watching others who had come in after us order and then receive their meals in a timely fashion. I called the waitress and pointed that we had been waiting 45 minutes for our meal and wanted to know why everyone else were eating theirs. "That's because you ordered an entrée," our waitress said. "We didn't order an entrée," I replied. "Yes you did. You ordered the bread rolls," she answered. "Bread rolls are not an entrée and even if they were, we would have eaten them and be close to finishing our meal by now," I nearly shouted. "Can you please hurry up or we'll be leaving ASAP," I threatened, remembering we had nowhere else to go that night for dinner. "I'll see what I can do," she replied before scampering away, embarrassed that she had to wear a complaint about something that was not of her making. Five minutes later she returned with four small bread rolls, which we hungrily wolfed down while waiting for our "mains" which turned up about 10 minutes later. My partner had the steak, which she said was delicious. I had the kingfish which, I regret to say, was overcooked and dry. All in all, a pretty ordinary experience for a meal that cost nearly $150.

We ate breakfast/brunch and dinner at Anchorage many times during our stay. Good selection of meals on menus. Food of high quality although my husbands steak (the most expensive thing on the menu) was disappointing everything else we ate was great. Service ok - some staff members happy and friendly others seemed like they’d didn’t really want to be there. Anchorage is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week making it a really convenient choice while on the island. Position of restaurant great, views amazing!

The coffee and muffins are beautiful and huge. But it beggars belief that this place can charge what they do because of .....Sullen and unfriendly staff, I’d go so far as to say customers are unwelcome. The food at times was tepid, if you’re outside you’re forgotten no water offers or check ins. Napkins and cutlery (a central holder in the middle of the table) are unchanged from one table sitting to next - we’re in covid times!! Crockery twice today was chipped - artefact for subpar in my book. This is a restaurant that charges $38-55 for a main. Sad to see a place come to such mediocrity because when it first opened it was lovely.

This restaurant is in the middle of town and almost across the street from the diving center and day boat trips. They do lovely cakes, sandwiches, quiche and coffees during the day where it’s quick deli style service and they can arrange a paper bag for take out if you are between two activities. Dinner menu has good variety and high quality ingredients, although they could do more than offer vegetarians just a salad and pasta dish. But the two salad choices are terrific. I also enjoyed the kingfish and the Belgium chocolate mousse with mango sorbet is exquisite. They have pasta and pizza (only)night on Thursday and it was noticeably less busy that night. So if you don’t like carbs avoid that night. Friendly and prompt service. Like other commercial establishments on the island they accept credit cards. Also like other restaurants, they will drive you home from 7:30 pm every half and hour. My go to eatery on the island.

Had our first meal at Lord Howe here & our wonderful waitstaff (Maddy) indulged us with her local knowledge. A well presented & gorgeous meal of local caught kingfish, a beautiful view over the lagoon out to Mt Gower & a lovely wine made for a perfect experience. Highly recommend.

We recently stayed for 4 nights at Earl's Anchorage and enjoyed several meals at The Anchorage restaurant. Every meal was superb and we received excellent service from all the staff. I have to say, I do wonder about a number of the comments I've read about the cost. Lord Howe Island is a remote location, with everything having to be sourced from the mainland. We found the food to be exceptional and very fairly priced considering the island's location and the challenges they must face. Given the quality of the meals we found the prices to be not too dissimilar to Sydney. The bakery goods are also excellent, and the massive oversized muffins are to die for! I think we tried one of every flavour - hats off to the baker! As a keen baker myself, I was wishing I could get my hands on the recipe! I'll be looking forward to eating them again when we return one day! Being a guest at Earl's also meant we were prioritised and always guaranteed a table, even when the restaurant was booked out, which was pretty special!

During our four day stay on Lord Howe Island, we ate 3 lunches, 2 dinners and 1 breakfast at The Anchorage. The food was fabulous but the servers were perfect!! We were welcomed by everyone and were given super suggestions as to what to order. It was also fun to run into one or two of the servers on the hiking trail or just around town - they were all equally friendly outside of the restaurant. We had incredible Kingfish, a cheeseburger to die for, an omelette that started our day out perfectly. I discovered arribiata sauce and will forever be grateful!

We ate at the Anchorage for a few evening meals and the staff are always accommodating and we could not fault the food in anyway. Some of the meals are a little pricy, but considering everything has to be shipped in or flown in - just enjoy the great food while you are on holidays. They were always busy for breakfast and lunches when we rode past. The Anchorage is also the local bakery so fresh treats available. Transport is available home of an evening after your meal if required. Make sure you have a reservation for your evening meal as they get fully booked.

We bought a package deal for our trip to Lord Howe Island through a travel agent which included evening meals at various restaurants. After ordering our meals at Earl's Anchorage the waiter returned and informed us they had run out of steaks and they were off the menu. Disappointed, we ordered different meals, only to observe customers arriving after us ordering and receiving steak meals. When the waiter was asked how this was possible he became rather embarrassed and lost for words. It was obvious he had been instructed by management to lie to us. One of our group decided to investigate and was informed by management (we were told she was the owner) that the steaks were reserved for "paying customers". Well Madam, we were paying customers and we were not happy. If the steaks were not included in our package you should have informed us when we were seated and given the menu and we would have paid extra if required. Not only had she made us feel like second rate customers but she made a fool of herself. As it was a windy and rainy night there was no outside seating and I doubt social distance regulations were observed as the restaurant was near indoor full capacity. It's a pity the fantastic food was spoilt by the arrogance and stupidity of management.

Hi David, Thanks for taking the time to review us. Allow me to address your comment on the availability of steak - this is absolutely available on the menu, however we do limit the options on a set price menu, which you were on. We apologise that the option to upgrade your meal package was not communicated to you - this is not a usual request - and we sincerely apologise as we have had our key staff members in isolation with Covid requirements, I hope you can understand. I assure you this was not arrogance or stupidity - simply, a small business seeking your understanding as we navigate these very tough times. Please do reach out to us directly as we would be more than happy to address your concerns. Kind regards | Alanna

We've been to Lord Howe three times over the last decade, and Anchorage was a go-to place for meals during our first two stays. This time, however, it was disappointing. Food is still good, but front of house struggled depending on the day and crew in charge. Waited over half an hour between dinner courses for a meal that was good, but now way overpriced for what it was, even by Lord Howe standards. Were charged over $11 for a loaf of bread on another occasion. For the rest of the stay we avoided this venue, which is a bit tricky as there are so few options each day and booking at least a day ahead is need to secure a dinner table anywhere.
