Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The main problem with waiting 2 hours for your mains to arrive and being forced, out of desperation, to eat what doesn’t even pass for edible with dirty cutlery and a cockroach for company (who ran along the table just as the food was served),...is the arrogance of a host who doesn’t even offer an apology, or try make amends. The crime of this place is that the host shows such little respect for the value of your time and yet is somehow licensed to commit daily assaults on your tastebuds. Dinner was the equivalent of a 2 hour swivel on the host’s splintery middle finger. The signs were ominous. Wine glasses arrived after 40 minutes. Three prawns after 90 minutes. And a lifeless host with no pulse, no personality and, worst of all, no memory who kept drifting past muttering “gee,….. I keep forgetting you” as if somehow reminding us about how utterly useless she was at doing her job was meant to reassure us. With just 6 other tables of 2 to attend to, it’s easy to see how you could constantly forget our group of 4 which the host had seated at one end of their biggest table: it sat 9. We eventually had to make up an excuse about needing to relieve a babysitter in order to get an express commitment about which decade our food would arrive in. Our host’s only concern: “how young is the child?” The beef pho, which should be called beef pho-ny, comprised a pile of stodgy noodles plonked in a translucent watery pool of what can only be described as dishwater, with a hint of flavour mercifully coming from whatever scraps had been left on the previous night’s dirty plates. The promise of “two types of beef” should have been accompanied by a warning that the submerged rubbery unrecognisable grey chunks were more suitable for use as bait to eradicate rats on Lord Howe Island than for human consumption. The Vietnamese vegetable curry sounded promising. But, like everything about Miss Saigon, it was all “miss” and no “hit” by an operator too cheap to take the time to make an actual curry base (big tip: just google ca ri ga) and too nasty to care about anything other than fleecing us of $240. Make no mistake, the food on Lord Howe and each and every one of other our 14+ dining experiences had been excellent. Until we got to Miss Saigon. The thin yellow lifeless liquid lumped in front of us after a 2 hour wait, a swamp of overboiled vegetables that drowned in canned pineapple juice, was such a pathetic excuse for a yellow curry that contracting yellow fever in a waterlogged rice paddy would have been a more spicy and pleasant experience.More

I had heard mixed reviews about Miss Saigon and really wish I could leave a good review, but unfortunately not. I had heard that the pancakes were delicious, so we thought, let's give it a go. The setting up at the top of the hill...was quite cute and simple. We arrived for a 6.30 booking on time, and there were only a few people there. We were seated, and then other people started arriving. We were left at the table for quite a long time before the one server came to see us. She showed other people in the restaurant the specials board but never showed us. We had to get it ourselves. We asked for wine glasses and they did not arrive for 40 minutes - a bit of a ckik in the face when you have to pay a $12.00 corkage. We really wanted to pancakes but by the time they had served everone else before us (even though they had arrived afters us) they was only one left. The server said she had good news they found one more pancake but an hour and a half later then the food arrived she said they didnt have the pancake so decided to give us a curry instead. We ordred the beef PHo which was the worst PHo of our lives. It was sliced meat and beef balls and noodles with not one vegetabale. The lady said “oh we keep on fogetting you dont we” and didnt apologise just kind of laughed that they forgot us. She never apologised for the 2 hour wait - i do understand the idea of island time but every other restaurant on the island was exceptional. We spoke to other people who did enjoy the resaurant and loved their pancake so i want to acknowledge that other people do like it . I just wish we could say the same. Give Miss Saigon a miss.More

The restaurant is tucked away in a beautiful garden setting, a little out of town, with a lift home available if needed. Fresh food with local produce and beautiful flavours. An interesting and welcoming host added to the unique experience, highly recommend a visit if...you have a chance.More

Situated in a rural cottage amongst trees and a short drive out of town seating only about 30. Great food, great value and a lovely owner/waitress to help with choices. Also allows BYO which many do not. As all restaurants offer on the island, all...landlords drive you to any restaurant and the restaurants drive you home so no need to hire a car which are very limited anyway.More

We were a party of four adults who dined at Miss Saigon whilst on a week's vacation on LHI. We tried three of the mains on offer and each of us greatly enjoyed our chosen meal. I can also highly recommend the desert menu as...well. The waitress was very friendly and the location is so pretty and relaxing. We would happily have dined here again.More

You must make time to eat here: delicious. The friendly hostess and brilliant chef, along with the out-of-the-way forest setting near the sea, make for an enjoyable evening.

We stayed on the Island a week and this was our best meal by far. In a lovely location as well. The young Vietnamese chef knows her craft. The table service was friendly and prompt. Can thoroughly recommend if you like Asian food in a...restful setting.More

Maybe the chef was having the night off. No Vietnamese female chef to be seen. Only a Caucasian man in the kitchen. The waitress was totally flummoxed by her role. Apart from us having to wait at least an our for our meal, and one...of our party not receiving his cutlery until the 11th hour, the food was practically inedible. The crispy pancakes were thick and totally flavourless as were the few prawns and minimal chicken within. It’s a BYO but this was not explained to me when I booked. Some alcohol might have helped us to get through.More
