We had a couple of meals at the Bowling Club. Tuesday night is pizza night and seems very popular. The main menu didn't change when we visited and was very limited. However, the meals were delicious. On our visits it was very popular with families. Make sure you book to guarantee a table. The bus to transport you home was out of action, so you will have to either walk or bike ride home. The part on order was due to arrive within the next week.

There wasn’t a of choice on the LHI Bowlo menu but that doesn’t mean you won’t get a decent meal. We had grilled kingfish and it was beautifully cooked and the meal tasty. The place was very busy but the service was good, just make sure you book.

pizza nite - good value for money

i ordered a soft drink and a vegetarian pizza. pizza is served hot and colorful. variety of veggie : tomato base, oregano, olive, pumpkin, mushroom, sweet red onion, parmesan, feta, mozzarella. full of original flavors. it will be more perfect if added little more salt. pizza is in between thin and thick type

More than the usual Bowls Club food

The Bowls Club on Lord Howe Island - known as “The Bowlo” - was one of our favourite dinner spots and offered a dinning experience way above other Bowls Clubs I’ve eaten at. The menu was extensive with the duck spring rolls, king fish and special Manuka Pork dishes being our favourites. The Pizza Night was also great.. The bar had a good selection of wines, beer and cocktails. The great service and friendly staff made us feel like this was our local. A good night was had by all.

One of the best

Had a great meal here, Smoked Hapuka croquettes as an entree (gorgeous) and Short pork ribs in smoked tomato sauce, with green apple and mint slaw . It was delicious, very tasty, meat tender and the salad provided a lovely astringent contrast. The young staff were working hard in the kitchen and on the floor on a Thursday evening, dealing with larger groups as well. Excellent value and highly recommended, one of the best on our stay to date, with 4 evening meals in different restaurants across the island under our belt!

We didn’t expect this !

We booked here for dinner Sunday night. We had the freshly caught tuna served with a lovely wine/butter sauce and vegetables. Presentation on the plate was impressive. We enjoy a la carte food and have never experienced this standard at a bowling club before. Expensive yes, but this is Lord Howe where a loaf of bread is $13. Wine/beer reasonably priced tho.

What a Gem

Went to the bowling club for a meal in the evening. Such a great local atmosphere. Great view of the mountains behind the bowling green. I was reluctant to try the local King fish after a disastrous first try the night before at another local restaurant. I was assured the meal would be great and it most certainly was. Their chef produced a mouth watering taste filled meal that I enjoyed immensely. It totally restored my faith in eating local fish. An enjoyable evening and a free ride home. Great experience.

As a group of 9 we had no trouble with booking for a Thursday night in advance as the Island can get busy..I had the best Kingfish meal and our group was very pleased with their meals. Just note that prices are more expensive in Lord Howe than the mainland because of the shipping.

Another great night on Lord Howe Island.

Fantastic meal at the Bowlo. Kingfish, caught by the chef yesterday, was delicious and perfectly cooked. Smoke pork chop was voted 9/19 by two of our group. Then, a lift home to the bungalow from the chef!

Better than expected

Came here on our 2nd night on the island and the place was buzzing as there was a bowls afternoon with many locals here. We had a few drinks after finding a table then checked out their menu. Limited menu of only 4 mains with an emphasis on seafood with a seafood chowder that my partner said was superb while I had the king fish lightly fried served with some vegetables and rice. This was also quite tasty. I saw some other items come out including the scotch fillet but given it was $48, I opted for the other two options a tad below $40.

Rude staff--lost our booking then refused to serve us even though only half the tables were booked

You have to make a booking to eat here--no exceptions, apparently. But the only way to book is to leave a message on their voice mail. No one answers the phone, ever. When we arrived, they had no record of our booking, and went off to check the messages again, came back and said it wasn't there. But when I asked to listen to the messages, suddenly they couldn't play them. Very suspicious, as there were three staff and three of us and they claimed they didn't have enough food for everyone. They even admitted that they knew they were the only place open on the island that evening, and just didn't care! They said it twice! So unless you want to risk starvation, leave at least three or four voice mails for them when you book.

Izak does a great job. We love his food especially the fish. Manila honey smoked pork chop was a hit with my husband. Really yummy snd tender but I can’t go past the grilled trevalla or kingfish sashimi.

Great food and service!

We dined at the bowlo twice during our recent visit. The food is of a consistently high standard and is very well priced. Tuesday night is pizza night!! Pizzas were great!! Their menu was great and the Wahoo fantastic!! You need to book.

Disappointing - booking system and food

Our only disappointing meal on the island. The booking system leaves a lot to be desired as mentioned by others. You get through to a voice message, leave your details and are told to “take it as confirmed”. Except that when we arrived our booking wasn’t listed. We managed to find a seat to eat at the only available table under the sports TVs in the bar. We had booked for a second night (we thought) but cancelled after a very ordinary and unmemorable dinner.

Fun dinner option in LHI

My 6 year old and I enjoyed our dinner there. They had a good selection of kids meals and my entree and main were pretty good for the price. It was the peak of summer so the place was packed so there were queues galore. Service was slow but moving along and wait staff were great. There will be a delay in bus service back as the wait staff double as drivers! Overall, a fun night and a good chance to bump into all the locals you'll see during your visit.
