Nice pub in the area.
With covid, there was limited seats inside and if you’re outside, be prepared to be really cold at night! There is little heating available.
A bit disorganised in terms of staff and wait time on food is a little longer than expected.
I ordered a schnitzel which was crispy and very lovely. My mother ordered the linguine pasta which was packed with flavour. Very yummy food!

We booked a table for dinner and we are so glad we did. Out meals were freshly prepared and had the right balance of herbs & spices to make you want more.
The staff and chefs were exceptionally friendly and glad to see you.
Our only suggestion would be to add coffee and dessert to the menu.

Passing through for lunch we had the Chicken Schnitty with salad and gravy ($23) and Fish and Chips with salad ($25). The decor of this old pub is eclectic and well done, with the drinks cold and staff friendly. A bit more effort to curb the flies inside wouldn't have gone astray! The food was OK with the protein done well but salads a little basic. As pub food that's fine but it is on the top end of prices for those dishes.

The Friendly Inn I’m located in the Heart of Kangaroo Valley NSW.
I made a booking for my family of four at 7pm on a Wednesday night.
Positive
* Chefs worked so hard to serve the meals as quickly as possible (I overheard the Chef tell management to hire more Chef staff).
* Meals tasted very nice (once they arrived).
Negative
* Reservation was for 7pm and table was not cleared before arrival, ended up sitting down around 7:10pm.
* Backdoor constantly banging as people left the venue (needs to be fixed).
* I heard several customers chasing up meals.
* 1hr 10 mins to get entree (Garlic Bread)
* 1hr 30 mins to get main meal (2x schnitzel and chips, kids meal chicken nuggets and chips and kids meal burger and chips).
I wouldn’t recommend this venue for a quick bite to eat but if you have plenty of time maybe give it a go.

The setting of this pub is lovely so we had high expectations that lunch would be good. We ordered 2 Sirloin steaks at $18 each which is a great price. However…there were a few things that were not great. Firstly the chef did not read the order correctly. It wasn’t a big mistake, but annoying. Our order 1 well done sirloin with chips only and mushroom gravy , 1 medium sirloin with salad only and mushroom gravy. Both steaks arrived with salad and chips and neither included gravy. I had to walk a distance from the garden, up a flight of stairs back to the servery to request the gravy. The biggest disappointment was the meat. Although cooked correctly to order we felt it was budget cuts of meat as they were tasteless, grisly and dry despite being char grilled. I understand KV has had many challenges over the past 3 years however, when dining out one expects a good piece of meat from a commercial eating place. Early this year we had the best steaks we’ve ever had from another pub! $18 for a budget grade steak was truly disappointing. The cashier input our order correctly so please Chef, plate it up correctly as well. You wasted a serving of salad and a serving of chips on us. How many others did you waste?

A group of 12 visited for dinner while staying at the golf resort. The servings were huge but the quality was pretty ordinary and the service was very ordinary as well. Didn't seem to be any order for the meals to come out as many of our group were waiting for more than 30 mins for their order. At least the beer was cold and there are plenty of options on tap. My tip okay for a draft beer but loom elsewhere for your meal

My wife and two children dined here on Thursday 10th December. The food was disgusting. I had the calamari which was too salty to eat...my daughters fish and chips was inedible with the batter rock hard and thick...the fish inside was almost totally gone. Not cheap either. We went with low expectations. ..after all the menu was bog standard pub food but they managed to ruin it....would never go there again.

What a great surprise this was! Went with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. It was so much nicer than expected (I expected average, typical pub food). First of all there was a lovely fire going outside in a drum, very welcoming. People were friendly (but we were friendly too which helps). Had a prawn linguine with chilli which was delicious and the pasta was not overcooked. I would highly recommend going to this venue, plenty of space and a variety of seating options (outside, there are rooms for more private type seating, or you can sit downstairs in the lawn area. Children’s playground there too). Covid restrictions were also strictly adhered to.

We ate here twice on a recent visit to Kangaroo Valley. Mainly because we had to cater to a fussy teenager and coeliac disease. There were 3 GF meals and the option for GF burger buns. The service was relatively quick. The burgers were okay. The steak and salmon were great. Chips were good. Prices were average. It was nice to be able to sit outside. No flies!

Whilst we really enjoyed our Sirloin and prawn / chorizo linguine, I was shocked to see the chef part frying battered fish for a later refry.
The attention to cleanliness and customer service were pretty poor:
The laminated menus we were handed were sticky.
The lovely beer-garden didn’t have any staff trawling for empty glasses or for plate collection: to stop the birds from eating remains.
There was no effort to clean the beergarden tables of the accumulation of bird s**t.
A member of bar staff walked past me twice without acknowledging me as I waited to order food.
The mustard on the side had streaks of grey in the pot, the chef must have used a spoon from another jar.
On the other hand, the pokies and TAB were supposedly removed 6 or so years ago: this means that there are more and better places to sit indoors without noise from these things.
We will undoubtedly be back, but will have to insist on freshly cooked fish rather than from the pile of half cooked ones!

It’s great to go to an old traditional style pub, especially one with a huge beer garden capable to services 100’s of people and large events. The bistro has good food, staff are friendly and they have a large range of local lagers and craft beer on tap. Definitely would recommend to drop in for a visit

Yes! I'd like to agree with a previous review..
The Bull Dog at Bistro register taking order was very abrupt and rude. Not enough seating,too many tables reserved for that time of night when children are wanting to eat.I am a regular visitor but not a local and i have never felt so unwelcome. I decided that the friendly Inn wasn't so friendly and decided to take my money elsewhere. The bull Dog should be doing dishes with such an attitude. Covid check in should be checked at front and rear entries not after you have entered and walked through.
Friendly Inn needs to make a change in my opinion and remove horrid staff from front of house.

Classic relaxed pub atmosphere with great food. Great selection of dishes on the menu. Freshly made pasta. I had the crispy Calamari, it was not the usual frozen mass-produced, but fresh from the kitchen and cooked to perfection. My partner had Prawn Linguini which was fresh, flavorsome with just the right amount of chili.

Food was good, we all had burgers and they were tasty. It took a while to get the food. The main complaint though was that we booked a table and were sat right near a door which people kept leaving open and the staff didn’t close. We would have preferred a table in the main bar area, and think an automatic door closer needs to be installed or a sign saying please close the door.

Friendly by name and friendly by nature - we had a fantastic night here chatting to locals, tasting the great range of craft beers, watching AFLW on the tv and enjoying really tasty food. The staff were working their socks off as were so understaffed but still keeping cheerful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
