We went to Wild Ginger on a Saturday night just before the tourist season started - and it was packed. It as loud because of the band playing outside, and because of the group of 20-somethings crowed into the front bar area. In the rear, the restaurant was full (lucky we’d booked) and abuzz.
Once we managed to gain the attention of the staff who seemed more intent on chatting amongst themselves than serving customers - we chose the set menu as it seemed the best option on such a busy night. It proved to be fantastic value at $39 each. A shared entree platter, then a curry, some crispy calamari and accompaniments.
You can also BYO wine for a $6pp corkage charge, plus GST.
Overall, there’s a lot to like but next time I’d go mid week!

This place come from a good friend's recommendation! which would have been alright a few years back..not the night we went unfortunately!!
Like some of many comments, the menu was over promised but the food was under delivered. We were asked to order banquets costs $65.- plus 15% service charge but the service wasn't that great! no one top up the wine and water, food was not explained when served etc. Food arrived , entree looked great but tasted similar to the some Chinese takeaway. chilli sauce used not nouc cham. I think we expected something else having read the menu!! Main course was even more disappointed. Curry was a bit gluggy, flavours were bland, nothing special....I know this is a regional restaurant during COVID time, I should appreciate what chef is trying to achieve but there is room for improvement...

Love this place! Great food and generous serves. You can have a set menu Sunday to Thursday’s for $35 or banquet options starting from $39. We had two of each. The food was amazing and we could not finish it all!

We were recommended this restaurant by our accomodation. Unfortunately we were disappointed. All started well from a service perspective and then deteriorated. We were a family of 4. Dinner without any drinks totalled $185. Our daughter only ate a children’s meal which was generous but over priced - 3 veggie spring rolls. Rice and snow peas for $20. The only adult options were a 2 or 3 course banquet $45/$55. The entrees were ordinary - cold duck pancakes and a watery salmon on beetleleaf that was actually lettuce. The mains were significantly better but despite offering to change the curry to a milder version - arrived at the table unchanged and so difficult for our son to manage. They were generous serves and by far the best part of our meal. Before we finished our mains The desserts were “plonked “ on our table despite ALL the dishes from the previous course not being finished or cleared. It was very strange. And the desserts were overpriced and very ordinary. A completely inedible Pina colada meringue and 2 tiny slices of premade brownie with cream from a can. 😬
We don’t mind spending $185 on a beautiful dinner but this was a long way off! We would not return. Both service and food not up to standard.

We had high hopes for Wild Ginger based on the reviews but were very disappointed with the quality of the food. For a $65pp banquet marketed as high-end Asian fusion, it did not deliver. The entrees were 4 deep fried assortments (spring roll, fried dim sim, fried fish cake, and fried pork belly) which were of poor quality. They reminded us of frozen fried food you get at rural Chinese restaurants. The menu promised a watermelon Nuoc Cham with one of the entrees but instead we got sweet chilli sauce. The mains were two curries and deep fried squids. All of which were VERY sweet. The waitress was lovely and explained that most people do enjoy the sweetness and found it palatable. She offered a side of fish sauce which helped a bit. The dessert of cheesecake was nice but the chocolate ‘assiette’ reminded us of store bought chocolate yoghurt, topped with pieces of brownies, cocoa pops, and crumbs of Oreos. We ate what we could because it felt wasteful not to. The drinks were great and the service was lovely however. I cannot say that the food was worth the $65pp plus 15% surcharge on the weekend. We ended up spending $170 for a couple’s dinner (including a drink and a mocktail) and it was by far our least favourite meals of the trip.

From the moment we made the booking, it was a regret all the way. After realizing the only menu choice was a pick of 3 banquets, it was already too late to cancel our booking without being held hostage for our $100 booking deposit.
On arrival, their choice of 3 banquets had shrivelled to one by the time we were seated. $65 +15% for the set meal, which was essentially their usual $58 banquet. It was a either chicken, fish, or chicken.
Entree arrived with a long strand of human hair, and a variety of burnt dumplings, fish cakes, pork loins, and supermarket quality spring rolls.
Main course was pretty aweful. Three bowls of curry essentially. Our beef cheeks were completely shredded meat that appeared as if it had been frozen and rewarmed. It was served over boiled salad and a drizzling of sweet curry sauce. Chicken curry was the same, with boiled chicken meat on top of boiled salad, topped with a curry sauce. These weren’t curry, but tasteless boiled meat with veg, that had premade curry sauce poured over. Coconut crusted squid was tasty, again served over the same boiled salad, given that it was the only edible part of the main meal, the servings were far too small. All this accompanied by a plastic bowl with lump of soggy/sticky white rice with burnt edges, and another strand of long black human hair.
Dessert was not worth mentioning as it was four pieces of store bought chocolate and one piece of brownie with two spoons. I would’ve appreciated if each diner at least got their own plate & piece of dessert in this day of COVID pandemic, but they expected us to share a plate, and scoop up from one single piece.
Overall, a total disappointment, an exorbitantly priced meal for what is a never to be eaten again Thai meal. It was our worst Thai restaurant experience in a long time.

We were looking forward to visiting this restaurant as there were plenty of positive reviews. Unfortunately, we were left quite disappointed. We were given the Easter fixed menu which was $68 per head. We didn’t realise it was a fixed menu but based on the good reviews we just went with it.
Firstly, it is no longer “Easter” and when we checked afterwards, they actually have the same menu on their website at $55/head - I assume they just try it on with tourists and we dutifully fell in line.
Second and worst of all is the food - not that it is bad, it is just very poor value and does not match the higher end marketing. Entree was just a fry up of mass produced spring rolls and dim sum. Another reviewer said it was like supermarket frozen food and I have to agree with them. Main course was ok, the fish curry was a standout; and we all really enjoyed that. The problem is, that at $68 per head, you should expect more than three casserole style curries with a pile of rice. The mains also arrived at the same time, rather than spaced out, so you could enjoy the meal at a decent pace and appreciate the different flavours.
Dessert also felt like it was shop bought, again, ok if the menu were priced right and not pitched as a higher end dining experience.
Overall we were just disappointed.

We attended Wild Ginger as a couple and were slightly perplexed. It seems they have tried to model their restaurant off China Doll at Woolloomooloo Sydney but missed the mark.
Let me run through some Pro's and Con's.
Pro's - The Decor and presentation of Staff - Food Quality and Taste Thumbs Up
Con's - Do Not Cater for People who do not like Hot N Spicy Chilli Food all 3 mains were Hot (I loved them but not everyone does) no opportunity to have a substituted meal or tone down the spiciness.
The Pseudo RSL gathering on the tables at the front where large groups of people are drinking but not eating. Big Thumbs Down.
I am sure the Set Menu & the staggered dining times are a good business decisions Making the food ordering, food prep and cooking very cost effective.
Attention to detail and good customer service is lacking we were asked to change tables even though we hadn't finished dessert while they set up a large table for the next time slot.
Our Bill was $173 for 2 which was OK for a quality restaurant with a good ambience and a relaxed atmosphere.
What we got was a very rushed service from staff who didn't exude confidence in the rules of service.
Then to top it off we had to queue through crowds of drinkers at the front door to pay the bill.
Not sure if this is the way to encourage return patronage.

We booked the Valentine’s Day 6 course degustation at $75 per head . There was meant to be 2 options - 1 for meat eaters and 1 for vegetarians. We had two vegetarians in our party of four . Other than the dessert , only one other vegetarian course was available and we were only told this after being seated . Firstly we were told only one course was unavailable but it turned out to be 4 courses being unavailable. The female waiter apologised and we did have the vegetarian banquets removed from the bill . However , this was a totally unsatisfactory situation and we should have been told straight away that the vegetarians could not be catered for with the set menu , rather than revealing this as each of the meat dishes were brought out . A truly unpleasant and disappointing experience . We won’t return !

We are a family of 5 & were very excited to visit this restaurant for dinner, it looked great from the outside.
When the entrees arrived it looked like they had been deep fried & tasted like they were purchased from the frozen food section of a supermarket.
When the mains came out the curries did not taste right & the rice came out in a pink plastic bucket. The rice was gluggy & not edible, it seemed the rice was cooked within the plastic bucket in the microwave.
The chopsticks were wooden that had been used many times & looked very unhygienic.
The chocolate brownie for dessert was tiny, it seems like it was purchased from a supermarket & a bite size cut in 4 with 1/2 an Oreo biscuit placed in there, the kids couldn’t eat it.
By the time we walked to our car child 1 was throwing up whilst children 2, 3 & myself all feeling very sick.
The waitress was very lovely & very apologetic about the bad food.
Our honest & genuine feeling is at $65 p/head it is sheer dishonesty from the restaurant as it was not quality food & believe it was supermarket bought food & laziness with cooking rice in a microwave. We have paid more than this per head & only too happy to pay for a great meal but for supermarket food disguised in a restaurantis extremely disappointing.
Please save your money & spend it else where for better food.

My adult son and his girlfriend were visiting from The U.S.A. and we all went on a Winter Wonderland escape from our sunny Gold Coast home to Sydney and then onto the beautiful coast line of Jarvis Bay. Here, we found a very hip but cozy restaurant named "Wild Ginger. We started with well made cocktails to perk up our appetites and then we devoured the wonderful meals that followed with wines that really accommodated their scintillating flavors. The staff were so attentive and efficient you felt like you were a celebrity and the whole dining experience was elegant and satiating. That can be a hard balance for many restaurants, but not so for Wild Ginger. I only wish there was a similar kind of dining experience on the Gold Coast. Oh, and the big red Kangaroo jumping down the main street upon leaving that cold Saturday night was the evening's entertainment!

Decent servings of tasty food. We got 2 dishes take away - green and yellow curry. Staff were friendly and accommodating, adding a bit more coconut milk to my green curry to take some of the heat off! The dishes were a nice amount of spice. Highly recommend!

From an outsiders perspective, this place has all the right things to draw you in - from its classy, minimalist look, to the locals raving about and the chef, plus for the price point and online booking process you think “this must be good!”
But if I’m being honest, this place was really disappointing.
While the food was made from decent quality ingredients, it just wasn’t good at all.
My recommendation - Go there for the ambiance and have some drinks, then walk down the street and find something else for dinner.

I went to wild ginger with my new Fiancee as a mini celebration on our weekend away and absolutely can’t stop raving about the delicious food and fantastic service . We ordered the pork belly slider for starters which just melted in your mouth but the real star of the show was the 3 hour beef cheeks. I have never tasted anything like it and still dreaming of it. Top tip also try the cocktails- loved my Bellini felt like a bit of a movie star! Highly recommend if you are in the area or if you are a Sydneysider like me totally worth the travel!

I've just received a call saying they closing the restaurant for 2 weeks. We booked our reservation weeks ago for this weekend coming and they have given us 3 days notice they are now closed. We had a surprise birthday dinner booked here, which we now can't do. What a JOKE!
