Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We called in here for lunch during our 2 night stopover in Holbrook and even though we had to wait on a queue to place our order the wait was worthwhile. We had Meat pies and coffees and both were served hot and delicious. It obviously is the GO TO Bakery in Holbrook as the place was packed with locals and doing a roaring trade in takeaways.

We stopped here en route and ordered the chicken schnitzel roll with the lot. My husband rates it as the best he’s ever eaten. The chicken was freshly cooked and came with tomato, beetroot, onion, fried egg, bacon, lettuce, cheese, pineapple and mayo. Amazing taste, and amazing value.

We recently travelled along the Hume Highway to Canberra. On the way up we took the easy bypass to Holbrook and discovered the bakery that was obviously popular. I was delighted when they ere able to make me a superb gluten free toasted sandwich. The choices for my husband were endless… he was in heaven!
On our trip home, very early in the morning, we decided to see if the bakery was open. Sure enough, at 6:45 am, we were greeted warmly and were able to sit in the spotlessly clean dining area to enjoy the best bacon and eggs with tomato, that I’ve had anywhere… gf toast for me.. wonderful coffee. While we were there local tradies and transport people were constantly coming through the door, greeting ‘Shirl’ and asking for their favourite food and coffee. We’re so glad that we found this food spot and will make it our regular ‘Hume bypass’ for future trips.
Congratulations to the owners and staff of the Holbrook Bakery and Cafe!

Stopped off at the Holbrook Bakery for lunch on the drive back Melbourne to Canberra as it had come recommended as having great baked goods and fabulous chicken and salad rolls.
I must say I was disappointed. The bakery is much smaller than I anticipated with minimal rest rooms. I guess I was expecting similar facilities to Trappers at Goulburn or Braidwood which this wasn’t. When we got there it was mid week and it wasn’t busy which meant there was only a short wait for the single toilet but I can imagine on busy days this would be an issue.
As to the baked goods they weren’t great. I had an apple tart and chicken and salad sandwich. The apple tart was pretty tasteless with crumbly pastry and minimal filling and the chicken sandwich was no better than what you can buy at a service station stop.
Sadly I wouldn’t recommend.
My husband had a coffee and chocolate eclair and he didn’t finish the coffee.
If you are doing the Canberra to Melbourne drive there are numerous little towns along the way which have some great cafes and bakeries.

I frequent this bakery often for breakfast and to buy sandwiches for lunch. Ordered scrambled eggs and mushrooms and the eggs appeared to be boiled eggs squished and were not appetising. The mushrooms were cooked to a crisp and not nice to eat.
This used to be my favourite place for breakfast when travelling between Melbourne and Sydney as it used to be a great breakfast. Very disappointed and will not be stopping at this bakery again. It’s a shame as this bakery was the best.

This road trip we stopped here twice for morning tea. Service was quick even though it was busy and we sat inside and enjoyed our tea and apple slice and donuts. We bought a ham and salad roll each to have for lunch later, and they were really nice. They have clean toilets and a large variety of food and drinks. Always a great place to stop while on the road.

This is a mainstay stop when traveling past Holbrook and need some quick eats
The staff a super friendly and the pies and desserts and fabulous.
I always try a different pie when stopping and can highly recommend them all, my personal favorite is the Chunky Beef an Cracked Pepper soooooo good.
All the cakes a pastries are priced fairly and the size of some is hard to believe, go for the Vanilla Slice yum. They have a large range of drinks and the coffee is great
A very clean and well established Family bakery

Had coffee and cakes here. Coffee was very average and nondescript as were the cakes (very run-of-the-mill). I would not purchase cakes here again and you can get better coffee a few doors down toward the centre of town in a white painted building, that is not very well signed. everyone

Food was ok. Service was shocking. We visited the bakery 2 mornings in a row and one of the ladies serving was so grumpy and unfriendly both mornings.
Having never been, we wanted to have a chance to decide what we were buying. We were a group of 5, with 2 kids. The lady was so rude and loudly expressed her impatience to other staff members. For a country town that relies on passing business, it was such a shame and I’ll take my future business elsewhere.

Didn't actually get to try the reportedly good bakery items and coffee as the bakery serves everything with disposable cups, plates and cutlery. A little past time this was changed.
Stiff competition offered by " The Ten Mile" a few doors down the road

Lovely little bakery and cafe in Holbrrok. The coffee was excellent, and the food offerings were great.
There was a constant stream of customers when we were there, and everyone left happy.
The staff are very friendly, and made us feel welcome on our visit.
It's definitely worth calling in for a coffee, breakfast, or lunch if you're in the area.

You can tell a lot about a town from its meat pies.
A good pie should fill the hand, heavy, pendulous, promising... but weight alone won’t tell you if yours is from a good bakery. The entire crust should be soft to the touch and golden brown, no burned spots. Take a bite: there should be, simultaneously, the flavour of rich meat and the exquisite agony of burning tongue. Look at the filling, it should be bound together, oozing like lava from a volcano. No runny gravy.
Now about the pies in Holbrook …I think I’ve had better.

Overnighted in Albury in the midst of bushfire smoke and associated activity. As we were about to tackle the long drive to Sydney via the Hume Highway, we decided to stop at Holbrook Bakery for breakfast of bacon and eggs, sausages and eggs one black tea and a milkshake. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. Total cost $34.50 - no problem with that. However, when we had finished our food, my husband remembered that he needed to take his medication and asked for some hot water to top up the black tea (with the teabag which we had already paid for!) so he could have his tablets. $1.50 please. I considered this to be grossly unfair, given that we had already spent the significant amount of $34.50 on our breakfast and asked to speak to the manager. To say that her manner was dismissive is an understatement. “It is the owner’s instructions to charge for hot water” and that’s that! What we had already spent was irrelevant. No further discussion. What an attitude! She could have certainly dealt with my complaint better than that. A much higher overall rating would have been given, had it not been for the managers response.

Be prepared to wait a bit such is the popularity of this country pie shop. They cook full breakfasts and have heaps of different pies to pick from. The sandwich selection is large and always fresh !
See you later in the week !
