About
Barrio means "neighbourhood" in Spanish - designed to feel like a home away from home, bringing together the local community in a relaxed environment for all-day dining. Barrio was once in my top 5 Byron restaurants.. Sadly it’s slipping away. Looks to me like new ownership, bad management & staff that can only be described as lethargic, stoned are hungover from last nights drinking. There is also something not working in the kitchen as the food was so slow to come out! It’s sad. It’s lost its vibe. All the originals are gone. It now has zero atmosphere. These transients that come to Byron that take jobs in hospitality & could not care less about the role should all just go home. If you don’t want to create a positive experience for paying dinners then go pick fruit or do something else?! They don’t care & they need more training. One waiter bashed chairs about behind us as he was cleaning a table & made so much noise it was embarrassing?! At one point I got up to get my own water! The drinks took ages & we had to ask again for them but they were not even busy! The food is still pretty good though, our kingfish was superb, the pumpkin humous & potatoes delicious. I gave it 3 stars for this. But sadly we will not be returning & we’re locals.

1st timers...a group of 10 oldies for a Monday lunch to celebrate a 69th birthday. Share plates were mandatory..the dishes were plentiful and healthy... We were unable to finish our desert so they provided a doggy bag. Our Scotish waitress was excellent. We would all return anytime.

the food is beyond amazing. The focaccia, one of the best I ever had (i am Italian and had a lot of focaccia in my life!) the different fish dishes we had were sophisticated taste, and at the same time simple and very fresh. I would come here over and over! if you are in the area, don't miss this place!

Would not recommend the feed me option. The dishes were average for the price we payed and only ended up saving $10 if we were to order the same dishes off the menu. We have been to numerous other feed me style restaurants and this was definitely a let down. Will not be going back.

I'd like to think this could be my local. But when 2 coffees and a baguette costs $26? Ouch. There are much better places in Byron Industrial area. One corner establishment, a small family operation, offers baguettes with much more generous fillings and for $12.90. Do yourself a flavour explore some of the smaller cafes popping up in abundance. Barrio was originally pitched as affordable living to get it across council's line. It is anything but.

We (7 of us) had a Buffet meal at $65 per head. The food was amazing - for everyone except me. As a vegetarian I was assured there would be plenty of 'vegetables' & "beautiful food"... however all the vegetarian food was basically platter type food (marinated veg, pickled veg & a small shared plate of eggplant) Pretty disappointing for $65. The meat dishes looked amazing... however it would have been nice to have a vegetarian orientated meal/serve that was something more than basic pickled or marinated vegetables or dips & flat bread. Surely the chef can include something more interesting for non meat eaters?

Family adult group enjoyed a great long lunch after Christmas. A variety of meat and fish dishes with salads and vegetable options. Those of us who chose desserts found them tasty. The restaurant has comfortable seating in a very airy relaxed space, with easy parking. Good friendly service.

This is a fun place to eat in Byron Bay. Situated out of the hustle and bustle of Byron’s township, Barrio has a great atmosphere which is backed up with good music, excellent tapas and attentive staff. Definitely a place to eat if visiting Byron.

We have now dined at Barrio on 3 occasions in 12 months, and still I dont get it. The ambiance is ok , the parking options are poor, the service was friendly but forgetful and the food for the price paid is so average. The chicken was nicely cooked, but the peri peri sauce was completely lacklustre @ $49 for only a whole chook is not acceptable + $20 for large green leaf salad. Come on Barrio, step it up and take a leaf out of your Harvest connections.

Literally over 3 weeks the really best morning coffee to start a day. After trying once their blend I just simple never wanted to try anywhere else. As for food their salad combination - please also make sure to add falafel - was an easy take away lunch and always delicious, fresh. Greetings to the crew, especially super friendly Lucas. Nice vibe, friendly staff, good music made my mornings.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Barrio for lunch on our recent visit to Byron and it was such an incredible experience and really set the bar high for our stay! The food was all so delicious, presented beautifully with their own personal flare and you could tell that there was pride taken in all aspects which just enhanced our (customers) experience. We enjoyed the taziki, flatbread, fish plate, hand cup chips and pumpkin - all of which we would happily order again! The octopus and picked mussels were stand outs ( included in fish plate) - my husband and I usually avoid mussels but decided to give them a go as they were included in the fish plate and wow are we glad we did...they have changed our view on mussels forever! We are looking forward to coming back again and trying some of the other option on the menu!

Don’t let the ‘ industrial estate’ label put you off. After a ten minute drive out of town, free easy parking was a Byron treat. Barrio opens on to a peaceful courtyard with mature trees. The service was excellent. We ate the slow cooked lamb with yogurt, eggplant and grilled peppers and sides of kale salad and crunchy potatoes. The serving was huge and could have easily fed 3 or even 4. Worth the trip.

This restaurant is away from the Byron crowds but still very hip. Inside/outside dining with friendly and efficient service and great food. The mahummara dip is the best thing I tasted in Byron with the Zatar bread. It is worth travelling there just for that. The specials change daily (we went back twice because it was so good so we found that out). I could have actually eaten there every night. AMAZING.

Must have the sausage roll! Seemingly an ordinary Aussie snack, this Cafe takes it to the next level. If you're a small eater this alone with a drink is enough, add on a salad (also tasty) and we were happily full. For me, one of the best cafes in Byron

We enjoyed a lovely and delicious lunch at Barrio’s. The food was really delicious and fresh, and the Aperol Spritz went down a treat. So many tasty dishes to chose from and share. We selected a range from the Grill and the Kitchen. Favourites were the Kingfish pastirma / fish bacon and the lamb and fish kebabs with all the trimmings. It was our first time to Habitat, the location was ok and Barrio’s is a nice gem for the community and visitors. The staff were super friendly!.
