Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

EXCELLENT breakfasts and service. The three of us all had a different choice off the great menu. Congratulations everyone involved!

The food was fabulous ! It really was . From the presentation down to the very last bite. The only downfall was that I didn't order more and it was time to move on. Whoever runs the kitchen is very passionate about food. That was...evident by the way my simple wrap was presented (like a work of art) , the ingredients and the taste. Reall, really yum. Thank you 🙏🏾. Craving more 😋More

Food for your Eyes, Soul & belly! Worth turning off the highway into Bulahdelah. The service was friendly & served quickly. The glass display case looks delicious but the surprise is the plates are presented as you would expect in a high end cafe for...twice the price. Flavour & freshness match the presentation. Great coffee as well. Definitely calling in on the way back to NewcastleMore

Travelling north from a stay in Nelsons Bay we decided on an early start and a stop at Bulahdelah for breakfast. If you think it's impossible to make 2 poached eggs, toast, hashbrown, tomato and zucchini look pretty and appetising on a plate then stop...at Detours in Bulahdelah for breakfast and you will see how it's done. Partner ordered the sausages and like me there was barely a crumb left on the plate. We saw the big breakfast served at a table nearby and it was big. Plenty of choice at very reasonable prices, friendly staff and generous servings make Detours a cafe to remember on your travels.More

Fabulous little cafe. All food looked amazing. We had brekkie wrap and it was delicious. Very large serves so easy to share. Dog friendly outdoor seating. Highly recommend taking the slight highway detour!

We called in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and yummy the food was. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It was great value too. Definitely stopping here again when we’re passing through that way next time 😊

Travelling south on the M1, we called into Buladelah for an unscheduled lunch stop. After checking out the main street, we decided on Detours Cafe. So glad we did. It was a very hot day so we just ordered a sandwich and a cold drink....The sandwich was freshly made with lots of filling and the price very reasonable. Good service and friendly staff. We would have no hesitation calling in here again for a sandwich or perhaps trying some of the other eats on offer.More

Stopped in late morning for something to eat, I had seen their pies on previous visits and always thought they looked good so decided to finally have one. So glad I did, it was incredibly yummy! I had a pepper steak, and the steak pieces...were melt in your mouth, the pepper had the perfect amount of bite and the pastry was delicious. They also provided tomato sauce with the pie (which it didn’t need because personally the pie itself was enough) but it’s a nice addition as most places charge for such things. The one thing that kept this from being a 5 star was that they initially gave me the wrong flavour pie, I let them know and they apologised and changed it, but they weren’t overly busy. Overall though not a huge deal and I would happily return, will try one of their other flavours next time.More

Pit stop off freeway for breakfast! A LOT of food in each serving and very tasty. Coffee and milk shakes were great also. But no toilet working apparently.

Sunday lunch is not the time to stop in Bulahdelah for a coffee - the place is teaming. Sandwich here quite OK but coffee had a burnt taste - maybe due to pressure of queue.

Sold cold pies. You have to ask them specially to heat up at lunch time. Very expensive for the service, and staff rude.

a pleasant small cafe with delicious afood. Only grip is no toilet on site when travelling. Gourmet pies are worth the stop, large and wholesome they are a meal in themselves. Café offers a range of breakfast treats and light meals and coffee was good....Staff could learn to smile a little more.More

A tidy little cafe, right on the main drag, it has a limited range of food but all of it well made, well presented and delicious. Good coffees with decade, lactose-free and a variety of milks as options. Still observing some Covid restrictions and making...hand sanitiser available. Definitely an afternoon visit as winter mornings, the outside seating is a tad fresh. Inside table - only a handful - needed a good clean as the surface was sticky. Sat in many worse.More
