Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just dropped in this delightful restaurant for lunch after a friend’s recommendation. It was sublime, best French food ever.

A hidden jewel in the middle of Bowral with authentic french cuisine at a reasonable price. Attractive decor, intimate setting, tables well separated, background French music.

Good expectations but disappointing. Having spent much time France and French restaurants in Australia this to us not traditional French cooking but Aussie version. Chose traditional dishes. Escargot. Steak and frites. Crepe Suzette. Escargot no indication of much garlic and parsley paste like. Steak thick...cut not usual thin style and tough and no traditional jus more like gravy and basic salad with what tasted like bottled dressing. Crepes thick and seemed like package ones you can get in supermarket basic orange sauce Better French food can be found in Bowral.More

So disappointed. Local friends had tried it, now under new management and thought superb. However, when they returned a few nights later with me, the food had obviously been prepared by a different chef and it certainly wasn't good. The scallop sauce was overpowered by...some sauce resembling worstashire. The steak was.like old leather. Kerri Martin Kiama.More

The restaurant is well decorated to give it a good atmosphere but it looks a tad tired. When we were there for lunch, there was only one other occupied table, so the service was good. Meals were tasty and well presented.

Had lunch with family couple from Sydney yesterday. This restaurant was always enjoyable but has been closed for a while and recently reopened as with new owner -now called Julien's Bowral Brasserie. What an excellent lunch we all enjoyed. Menu is small but comprehensive, We...enjoyed entrees of scallops which I'm told were very very good, my pate also. Mains of the lamb Special, steak frites and whole trout in parchment were all excellent. My steak frite had a unique sauce which I just wish I could duplicate myself. Shared desserts of Crepe Suzette and Julien's special icecream parfait. Beautiful bottle of Eden Valley pinot grigio to go with it all. Well priced and best meal we've had in Bowral for quite a long time. Excellent quiet, comfortable venue (what a wonderful change) and a decor fairly unchanged still retaining that French antique chic. We'll be back.More

The restaurant is under new management after being closed for a while. The new chef, Julien, prepared very good food for us. I enjoyed a seared scallops entree and tomato tart main course, although the rainbow trout was tempting. My friends selected different dishes, duck...and beef, and enjoyed their meals too, accompanied by a delighful cool climate Southern Highlands pinot noir. And it was not difficult to tempt us with the delicious desserts on the menu - mine was creme broulee. The service was very friendly and we were very pleased to enjoy fine French cuisine in Bowral. Although not cheap, our lunch was good quality and good value.More

We had Christmas lunch and found the experience quite underwhelming. The 2 course meal was $100 which, even for Christmas, was on the expensive side and our expectations were raised. Tea and coffee were extra. Desert was extra. The service was poor and we where...waiting for our first drinks well after the entree was served. I was told the only beer they had was Heineken- which later turned out to be incorrect. The food was reasonable but not great or even good. For a Christmas lunch there was no sign of Christmas festivity anywhere to be seen. Given people are dining out on Christmas Day it would have been nice to have some decoration around the restaurant and on each table. The plastic battery powered candle just didn’t do it ! Avoid this place if you value your special occasion.More

A lovely Saturday lunch. One of our party is a vegetarian, but allergic to mushroom and making a meal for her was done without any problem at all. The service was extremely good and all courses were done beautifully. A comfortable space with great ambiance.
