Wonderfull French restaurant a bit “off the track” through Bowral. We only wanted a light lunch as a break from driving and this a delightful break. Great chicken and leak pie and the best quiche we’ve had in a long while.

It was a belated birthday lunch and everything tasted wonderful. Each member of our party loved what they ordered but we’re keen to try the other dishes next time. A brilliant spot for Sunday lunch.
Had lunch today and was delighted with the food and service. Our waitress Gail was delightful and the food was delicious. Will definitely come back and sample some more authentic French cuisine
Eccentric wonderful experience, outstanding food and service, nothing like it and they drive a 2CV. Very French in every way, really enjoyable experience.
Phoned 16/4 to book 21/4 the private dining room for a friend's 80th birthday for 6. Told they could not take our phone booking, and to text the request. Returned text immediately, no confirmation received. On arrival our table was in the thoroughfare room together...with a table set for 3, where we had commendable experiences. This space accesses the occupied private dining room and the front enclosed verandah. A pleasant waitress brought table water. Bread was not offered or presented as it was to the table of 3 guest when they were seated. It was a busy night. our order was eventually taken by the head of house. 3 guests chose $$$$ curried scallops. From my seat I observed 2 of the scallop dishes fall to the floor. The entrees were returned to the kitchen. on return to our table the 4 surviving scallops with roe were distributed to the 3 plates 1,1,2 and the remainder of the 4 scallops per dish made up with small non roe scallops? Due to the size of the chairs on the table of 3 (we had plastic chairs to fit our table) our waiter had to pass food over our heads and also gave the plates to my wife and I to pass to our guests. My choice of stuffed squid with a side of fries. While excellent was entree size and the fries arrived late after being requested. We knew desserts were in the display cabinet and we had to attend the cabinet to make our choice. By 9.15pm the cabinet was 2/3 empty, with no replacements offered. Coffee was not offered the bill was presented and to be paid at the reception area. Paid with a $40.00 tip. As a frequent diner, on each occasion with 3 diners we have always been seated at the table for 3. We did not appreciate being told by the owner we were in the private room and the table for 3 was not usually in this room.More
Was really looking forward to eating here. However, despite having a reservation (which my husband had confirmed by email) a month in advance we turn up to find the place closed. No call, website indicates it’s still open but no one is there. So instead...of the nice restaurant meal we were taking our friends out to, we ended up in a rush around town trying to find somewhere open (and not full) so we could eat at least something. It was mortifying. Understand that in these times restaurants are facing untold challenges, but honestly, how difficult is it to call or even send an email saying you can no longer accommodate us? It has now been more than 36 hours and we have still yet to receive any kind of apology or acknowledgement of their mistake (My husband and I decided we would give them a chance to reply before leaving a review). One can therefore only assume that either this establishment is: A) absolutely incompetent and managed by cretins that lack the capacity to operate a phone or computer to send a simple email. Or; B) hold their customers in such utter disregard they simply can’t be bothered to adhere to the norms of common decency or basic manners Avoid like the plague if you actually hope to eat something.More
Booked dinner for 6 March 23 to celebrate my sister's birthday. Booking confirmed by text but when I arrived the somewhat snooty owner said there was no booking. I produced my phone and instead of welcoming us warmly, a couple of tables were taken from...a large party table of 20 and we were stuck at the end of this group. Our food was good but very expensive for what it was. The desserts are a disgrace. From the patisserie they own in the main street all cold. I had a clafoutis which was nothing of the kind just a fruit tart. The owner was very proud of the fact that most contained no sugar. Perhaps put some in for a better taste? We had a sweet young girl waitress who tried her level best despite constant criticism from the owner. She was obviously new and he was beastly to her in front of us! The ice cold welcome, the enormous bill and the good but nothing special food mean we won't be backMore
We had a very pleasant dinner at Le Bistro Gourmand. Service was excellent. Food was fine. I thought the crab lingini was overpriced at $52 a dish but was not advised of this when specials were given. It was a nice dish however a little...heavy on the chili. The scallops, cod fritters and duck cassoulet was nice. The dessert was from their patisserie in the town and whilst nice, there was no ice cream or any presentation. Just the small strawberry tart on a plate. Bit over priced for the $18 cost of dessert. Sorry I expected a little more. Overall the food is nice and service excellent. Ive travelled extensively in France and the food was more provincial than fine dining as reflected in the price.More
Authentic French food in a beautiful restaurant that has real country charm. My partner loved his scallops especially. The owners were working the night we went due to Covid but the food came out fast and their passion for their food came through. The desserts...are divine and the good news is that they now also have a patisserie in town as well.More
Thank you very much for your review. We are so happy you enjoyed your evening. We hope to see you soon
Fantastic French restaurant, good selection of french and local wines, great seafood dishes, and desserts to die for!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We really appreciate it and are so happy you enjoyed your experience at our restaurant.
We are older locals and have dined here before with quite good, but not brilliant, experiences. We decided to do something different this year after so many worldwide troubles. Few places in Bowral were brave enough to open but I found Bistro Gourmand were not...only doing Christmas Eve lunch and dinner but Christmas Day lunch and dinner. All meals were based on a prior choice from roughly a selection of 3. Cuisine for Christmas Eve was French and my husband I had to say we enjoyed all our meals totally. We were not rushed as although they had 2 sittings one could come&stay as wanted but the food was served at your chosen alloted time. We spent a couple of hours there watching the sun set and enjoying the time together. Thank you Bistro Gourmand for a lovely Christmas Eve. Everything well priced and we could still BYO (we chose to do both-bring a bottle and buy an extra glass). Would have loved to do Christmas Lunch also but had made other plans before we saw your advertisement.More
Thank you very much. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your Christmas Eve with us. We hope to see you again next Christmas.
Great food and ambience- good wine list- consistent quality of food and typical of a French bistro. Now with excellent dessert pastries- best place to visit in the southern highlands
I have been to this restaurant many times (over 10) Every experience we have had is delicious and leaves you feeling like you have had a wonderful and very full experience. The staff are lovely and the food is exceptional.
Easily the best French restaurant in the shire and among the first 3 best restaurant in all categories. Typical French dishes cooked to perfection Divine pastries with very low sugar. Has just opened a pastry shop in bowral. Divine!!!!
Back for my second visit, this time for a 90th birthday. Just like the first time the food was fantastic, the staff friendly and the owner charming. Just great. Essential dining in Bowral. Highly recommended.
