Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thanks for misleading info. I travel all the way for 2 hours just to experience the atmosphere....IT HAS CLOSED PERMANENTLY! Nothing similar but the usual food

We found this gorgeous cafe in Bowral! Loved the atmosphere with all the books lining the walls & the huge cast iron ‘Mad Hatter’ pouring a cup of tea statue. We both had a Caesar salad that was fresh & delicious!!! Also had a coffee...that was perfect! Staff were very friendly & efficient! Would definitely recommend & would go back if ever in Bowral again.More

Lengthy delay after being served by young lady who was so tired after working for three days. The poor dear. After 40 minutes of waiting we enquired as to where our meal was. Oh we forgot to send it through. A further 10 minutes later...food arrived. Normally I’d expect to have cheese on nachos but they must have packed it away for the day Whilst we were given a discount on our bill I do t know if it will be enough to want to go back.More

My husband and I had lunch here on Saturday. We were both very hungry from our drive and were promptly served at our table. Our meals both came out within about 5 minutes of ordering which was great for us. Food was fresh and of...good quality. Recommend this cafe for lunch in Bowral. Lovely menu with a wide variety to choose from.More

I went there for lunch last year with my family and after waiting for 45mins we asked about our meals. There had been a mix-up, and our docket had been thrown out. Food came out, and it all tasted fine. Accidents happen, so I didn't...want to let one experience set an opinion, so I went there again this weekend. The girl bringing out our lunch spilt hot curry all over my friend's lap and hand and burnt her! The waitress wasn't apologetic at all. Accidents happen, lots there apparently, but it's still good customer service to acknowledge what you have done. We went to pay, and the waitress was extremely patronising to my friend. The bad customer service on both occasions and the mediocre food are enough for me not to recommend this cafe to anyone. It's unfortunate because it was recommended to me last year by my friend - the friend that had hot curry spilt on her lap.More

We had lunch at this iconic Bowral landmark. Even the locals call it a favourite. Having lunch in a library was a first for me. Very atmospheric & different with all the books & mood lighting. And then the food which was spot on delicious...& plentiful. We had smashed avo & bacon/egg bun with side salads. Cost affordable, staff efficient.More

The Elephant Boy Bowral is really quirky with really nice food and coffee. I had Chilli Prawn linguine and my son had the Caesar Salad. Both meals were generous and truly sumptuous. Excellent table service, helpful and efficient staff which was an all together pleasant...experience. Locals keep returning so that says it all.More

Brunch date and we walked into a quirky interior. Staff were polite and obviously knew their regulars. Bacon and poached eggs were well cooked and paired with tomato and basil pesto. The books in the many bookcases are to be browsed with locals even reading.

On day trip to Bowral and just chanced on the Elephant Boy for a coffee and cake. Own unique quirky experience with booklined rooms and deep comfy seats. And the coffee and cake were very nice. Staff were warm and welcoming. The "colonial chic" element...may have been a bit overplayed but everything else was great.More

I had to travel through Bowral this morning around coffee time and with a vast array of cafes in the area it’s hard to choose which one to stop at. I picked the Elephant Boy for its warm fuzzy feeling when you walked inside and...I have to say I was absolutely happy with my pick, the staff were extremely polite and coffee was top shelf, even the simple toasty was perfect. Definitely a place to stop if you’re in town. Probably not the best spot to stop if you’re a bookworm!…you'll be there a minute…More

A very loud (very!) group came in shortly after I arrived today. I observed that everyone in that room was taken aback by the noise. The waitress came over with my meal and I told her they were very loud. * She agreed* I asked...her could she ask then to quieten down to respect the other guests & she declined. I was forced to hurry down a burger and get out of there as it was uncomfortable to stay and did respectful of ALL patrons at the cafe. Never again. The whole purpose of finding somewhere comfortable, quiet and good for ALL patrons was completely disregarded at this place.More
