Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Despite having to wait outside in the courtyard for a while ( and we were kept warm by the heater nearby) we were soon inside and enjoyed our lunch very much. The crab cakes were very tasty and the curry was good too, if a mite too highly spiced for me. Service great, staff excellent and we will go back again to try some more of the predominately middle eastern style food. A nice change in the southern highlands!

Booked a table for 1.30pm three adults and baby. With the kitchen closing at 2pm the staff were friendly and accommodating, exception mains with chicken curry, confit duck leg and the Turkish Spiced lamb mince.
Finishing our mains at 2.30 they offered us desert and accommodated our table until we finished. Superb deserts with the chocolate fondant, apple tarte tatin and the pear and rhubarb crumble all served with ice cream. Exception service and decadent food. Great job guys

Thursday lunch at Josh’s Cafe, Berrima.
We started with a bottle of BoB so we could peruse the menu whilst being in a fine space.
Our enjoyment of this Cafe goes back to when the superscot from Bridge of Allan, in the shadow of Stirling Castle
waited on table with an all encompassing skill set without being intrusive or lost.
This kitchen can meld spices like the Tanglin Club, Singapore. Present ocean and turf as well as the Kildrummy Inn,
Donside, Aberdeenshire and entice one with vegetarian on par with the Dancing Bear Farm , Leyden, Massachusetts.
But in this C19 time ; you can’t visit those superb venues, so go and experience Josh’s.
Finishing with Affogato with Liqueur was delicious and completing for a top shelf lunch.
$132.00 including BoB and tip. Shall we return ? ~ already pencilled in the diary.
BoB. Battle of Bosworth: Puritan Shiraz, organic without preservatives. McLaren Vale.
The battle was in 1485 to end the 100 years “war of the roses” between the House of Lancaster , red rose,
and the House of York, white rose.
Don’t dwell on history ready to drink now.

I have been hesitant to write this review since our lunch experience last week. I have reflected a lot and have come to the conclusion that Australians accept poor standards too readily. Josh's Café is not really a café. It has restaurant prices and quality that is not up to the mark. And the servings are small. I had beef brisket that consisted of about 4-5 slices of thinly sliced brisket served on a very small bed of coleslaw without dressing. To be fair, I couldn't eat the mayo dressing offered on the menu because it contained soy, and was offered chips instead. I opted for the slaw and was told that a different dressing would be used. I could not detect any dressing. And really, the mayo should be made in house and then it would not contain soy! Yes, I should have complained then and there, but I really wasn't feeling like a confrontation as I had been unwell for weeks and lunch out was a break after being stuck at home for so long. My meal cost $27! It was tasty, but really not good enough! My husband enjoyed his meal, but we can make the same at home. It was just mince jazzed up with spices. To top it off, I made the mistake of ordering mineral water, thinking I would get a glass. Out came a medium-sized open bottle for which we were charged $10! Dessert was enjoyable, but very small and cost $15. We moved to the Highlands about 15 months ago and I have noticed that many places are poor quality, small servings and overpriced. Unfortunately, in these aspects, Josh's Café was just as bad. We won't be back.

I reserved a table for my family of 11 members as we were celebrating my husbands 70th, giving 10 days notice. The evening before our arrival a staff member phoned to confirm my booking, I requested seating outdoors at the back of the restaurant, but when we arrived at the restaurant to meet up with my party they were seated in the front garden I asked the waiter why had we been put in the front as I requested and had confirmed the back garden. The owner came out who did not appear to be interested in assisting us with an explanation why the change basically telling us that's where he has set us up and there was no changing regardless of where we had agreed to be seated. Also the website showed that you can BYO, we had a very special bottle of wine to celebrate this occasion only to be told its BYO only on Thursday as it was a special bottle for the birthday man we asked would they make an allowance and we would be happy to also purchase their wine ....it was a definite no comprise regardless of the special accasion. Consequently, we agreed to disagree with them so we picked up and left with a rather bitter taste to digest considering there were 11 of us.

I am truly greatful that you chose Josh’s Cafe for such a significant celebration and I am sorry that we parted on such terms. The restaurant was under strict legislation with the COVID-19 outbreak and for your own safety we could only sit a group that size in the front garden away from everyone else. If I seemed a little distracted it was probably because I was 24 hours away from the government closing us and every other restaurant in Australia down.
We don’t have a web site so wherever you got that information about BYO I will leave with you.
I do hope you and your extended family stay safe in these troubled times. When it is all over and we are able to trade again I hope we can make amends.
Josh

The simple unassuming cafe setting belies the quality of the food - although on the expensive side for lunch, was very palatable. We had great service from Debbie who explained the menu to us well and made great recommendations. The service was fast and friendly, although it was a Wednesday lunch and the cafe was only 30% full. Well worth a try if you are in Berrima.

This place never disappoints. The food is amazing and so is the staff. I’ve been to Josh’s cafe quite a few times and the service is great. The meals always come out hot, tasty and you never have to wait for too long which is important to me. I can’t believe the lady who wrote a review before me complaining about the cold, yet she was happy with the food and service. Hopefully people reading her review will just laugh. Welcome to the Southern Highlands lady 😁.Perhaps wear an extra layer of clothing… just a thought.

We were on our way to Canberra and running terribly late on Valentine's Day. We had planned to eat in Canberra but we stopped in Berrima hoping to find something at short notice. We spotted this cute restaurant with a red heart shaped balloon blowing in the breeze . Although we didn't have a booking they squeezed us in and we had a wonderfully delicious meal. Thank you to the waiter who was super helpful and made room for us. We hope to stop there again soon and make sure to book ahead so we can savour the experience without rushing.

This place was full on a Friday night and we got the last table. It would seem that there is a lot of repeat business here, and deservedly so. There was a wide range of choices and the food was well cooked and presented, but could have been just a tad more exciting.

Going to Josh's restaurant is like arriving in your own private dining room. We often run in to friends there and the ambiance is a delight. The food is yummy and reasonably priced. Staff are really friendly also.

This was a pleasant surprise to find modern Turkish take on classic dishes in a small country town. I had the “karnayarik” made with eggplant and was delicious. We hadn’t made a booking so we had to sit outside but it was still a lovely experience.

We were warmly greeted and this set the tone for a pleasant lunch. The crabmeat cakes had a hint of chilli and a nice zest to the palate. The grilled ocean trout was a generous serving and delicious. The wine menu was adequate although a limited choice if you only wish for a glass of wine. A very pleasant lunch.

We had the prawns & calamari entrees - both of which were absolutely full of flavour. Dessert was chocolate fondant which had the smoothest chocolate & the pear & rhubarb crumble which also had wonderful flavours. The way the flavours bounced on my tastebuds for every dish was amazing. Staff were super friendly. Highly recommend a visit here when you are in Berrima.

We were lucky to get a table at this lovely little restaurant (6 of us). Maître d’ was warm welcoming and the service was very Professional - we never had to ask for anything, water, computing pencils for the kids, even a teaspoon so our 4yr could eat her dessert.
The food was next level. Exceptionally delicious, well presented, and unusual - not standard fare by any means. We all tried each other’s dishes and every single one was beautiful.
Lots of gluten-free options (even four desserts were GF) which suited our family as well.
Highly recommend going out of your way to eat here but I know it’s hard to get a table most nights!
