We were in Bangalow on 25 February 2021 and found TOWN Restaurant and Cafe has closed down. Did it close because of the bad reviews or was the bad service in January because it was closing down? We may never know.

We chose the Town for breakfast when staying in Bangalow with a couple of friends as from the outside it looked like a cute little cafe.... should never have stepped in. As we stood at the door waiting for someone to greet us, we were...blatantly ignored and not even a smile was given from the young staff servicing the floor. After waiting for 10 minutes to be seated (waiting near the ‘please wait to be seated’ sign) we decided to take it in to our own hands and find ourselves a table- we then were greeted by a young girl who eventually came over to clear the table of the old dishes. We then proceeded to wait for menus for a further 10 minutes before we eventually asked for the menus ourselves- no apologies given by any staff. When going up to order our food, the 2 men behind the till ignored us and didn’t even crack a smile or give us a greeting. We proceeded to order our food and ALL staff messed up 2/3 orders and no apologies given. This was extremely frustrating after waiting 20 minutes for menus and service. The cafe was only half busy. We waited for over an hour for average quality, overpriced food (basic bacon and eggs). Even after all the confusion at the till, they proceeded to mess up our orders of both drinks and food. Overall our experience was subpar and we regretted wasting 2 hours in this place. This one star is overly generous. Save yourselves some time and effort and go some place else!More

We came here as we couldn’t get into the other nearby cafes as they all had wait lists. Upon sitting down the elderly waitress came over & gave us some dining menus. A minute or so later we called the same waitress over & ordered...two cappuccinos to start. At the same time we asked her if she could turn the two big fans above the entrance door down as they were blowing a gale in my wife’s face (she wears contacts & her eyes were drying out fast.) The waitress said in a rather rude manner “I can’t turn the fans down”. What ???? My wife & I then swapped seats so her back was to the fans. My wife couldn’t get over or understand the abrupt tone from the elderly waitress. After 10 minutes & with no coffee in sight, we got up to leave & told the barista not to worry about our coffees. A small neat place, with rude staff & slow service. No wonder all the other cafes are full.More

I love writing positive reviews. Sadly this isn't one of them. We found it difficult to get any recommendations for good places to eat in Bangalow by searching TA and asking our hosts. Town was the one place some people felt was a safe bet...so we went there and pretty much ignored the first signs it wasn't to be good. There was a big sign in the window asking for more waitstaff and one person serving inside who appeared frazzled, clearly trying to do way too much for one person. To her credit we didn't wait long to get served but there was a pervading air of constant anxiety. We each had a (different type of) pie, yet one was literally more than twice the size of the other. A few thrown on leaves constituted the side salad. At $16.50 pp it was not good enough. Hungry after and went to the Bread Shop (great place) where we realised we could have bought a similar thing for $6.00. Please improve Town, especially when there's so little competition in Bangalow.More

We had a delicious serve of F.A.T - Fetta, avocado & tomato 🍅 on sourdough, scrumptious pistachio cake & coffees. The gentleman that served us was particularly warm & welcoming. So lucky we stopped by - Google said they were closed Sunday but we are...so grateful they were not.More

We went there for coffee. After we received our coffees, I tried to ask the blonde woman something about a shop in Bangalow and started to say, “excuse me, hello, do you know where.....” and the blonde woman screamed at me” hello!!!” “How rude!!!” And...she slammed the cash register drawer shut and stormed off in a rage. I was dumb struck as to her verbal attack on me. My friend said “ let’s get out of here!” As we were walking out, another customer looked at me in a sympathetic way so I assume she heard the woman abuse me. Never ever in my life have I ever been spoken to in that manner before. I was still shaking hours later. I then rang the shop and spoke to the owner. He said that he “ saw what happened from the kitchen “ The only thing he would have seen is us walking out in shock. Someone is lying here and it ain’t me. These people shouldn’t be in business and in fact should be reported.More

Had breakfast here. Staff were polite. Food was tasty but not mind blowing for a 5 star rating. Due to COVID restrictions seating was understandably limited.

Walked in and stood waiting while two staff filled display cases etc. the waitress eventually looked at us and said “Yes?”. We asked could we get some menus and a table she pointed to the mirror and said “the menus up there“ where we saw...a written menu on the mirror. No friendly atmosphere so we walked straight out and went to the Butcher Baker where we had a beautiful breakfast with friendly serviceMore
