We went there mid week for dinner The food was fabulous and the service prompt and with a smile . The sardine starter was packed with flavour as were the arancini . Mains were swordfish which was so tender and fresh. Highly recommend this as...night out as a couple or with friendsMore

The Italian has plenty of appealing-sounding dishes on the menu and a reasonably priced prix fixe offering at present. The food execution was slightly hit and miss, but not bad overall. Decor and ambiance are pleasant, both inside and out. The real let down of...the night was the service. The bloke who seems to be in charge of the floor was just too matey and flippant. I'm a local and this wasn't casual country hospitality, it was just plain unrefined and I we weren't the only people who bristled at his demeanour that bordered on intimidating. The European female server was more personable but inexperienced on the finer points of table and wine service. So better service and a bit more attention to detail from the kitchen is needed to rise above being merely average.More

I’m alway a bit dubious when d-grade celebrities open restaurants, ‘it’ll be fun they said...’ then the harsh reality of the day-to-day unglamorous grind of running a business sets in and cracks start to appear. The restaurant fit out is beautiful and contemporary, but the...chairs are very uncomfortable. It’s the MacDonalds theory, make the chairs uncomfortable and you’ll turn more tables. The floor staff were pleasant enough but are not waiters of the Italian kind. Service was clunky and just annoying really, the bumbling uncoordinated service was distracting me from my meal. Just simple mistakes, like the sideplates on the right, rushing us to take our order, asking who ordered what when bringing food to the table, staff not knowing about the food. I asked for ciabatta, and received a brioche bun, looked decidedly un-Italian. I ordered wine, and our celebrity host made a quip about the brilliant choice and opened it without presenting the wine, then not hearing the snap of the stelvin closure made me suspect it was already open, glasses we over poured, we ordered oysters, they came out after our entrees, the staff didn’t know the difference between the risotto and the pasta! I could go on, but, look, it was a good try, if the service was better I’d go back, food was good, thank chef! but looked like friends trying to be waiters... and run a restaurant.. it’s not all fun and games guys You have to do the little things betterMore

Everything was perfect. I can’t believe reading back and the very few negative reviews, we have only praise for this wonderful restaurant. We dined there last night and the menu was great resulting in delicious meals and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a recommendation by our lovely host at 99 Acres Retreat in Bangalow to check out ‘The Italian Diner’ and we weren’t disappointed! The food was absolutely delicious! We indulged in the four courses and loved every bite ! The service was impeccable and...the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and had great humour. I would highly recommend this place to anyone with a taste for great Italian food and a relaxed enjoyable evening out. Thank you !More

A little gem of a restaurant we stumbled upon and loved it so much we went back 2 nights in a row. The Italian chef uses local gourmet produce to re-create classic Italian dishes that delivers a delicious combination of flavours to the palate. From...the home made pasta of ancient grains combined with local seafood. The wine list is also quite discerning to match the food and to top it all the staff were incredibly friendly and professional.More

This a review of somewhere we wanted to eat at yet didn't and why. After struggling to get any good recommendations for where to eat in Bangalow in the evenings, and seeing extremely mixed reviews for this place we popped by The Italian Diner to...get a feel for it and check out their menu when walking in the high street one day. There was a deck with seating yet ropes and signs everywhere saying it was closed and not to enter, yet because we couldn't find the menu and could see someone inside we tentatively ventured in and was ignored by the person on phone, whom we think was the patron. When he finally spoke to us we felt very admonished by him for not seeing the menu, which was hard to find around the side. The vibe was so negative we didn't book. We feel we dodged a bullet.More

We visit this restaurant quite frequently and unfortunately the dreaded Covid has forced them to limit their menu. Probably in order to get through this very trying time, they have had to create a set menu of several entrees and approximately five mains for $49...per head. All the entrees are very good and to date I have enjoyed the Arancini Balls and the scallops, plus we indulged in the freshest oysters I've eaten in quite a while. The first time I had the vegetarian pasta as my main (which was very fresh and flavoursome), and last week I tried the daily fish (in this case a very tender and tasty snapper). We finished with a shared plate of mixed desserts accompanied by a wonderful dessert wine. All very presentable and great value for money. The best part was the impeccable service and fabulous attention to detail by the staff and proprietor. Yes there was an issue with the previous "Lamb Shank", which i believe has now been addressed and rectified, but one shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. As previous hospitality owners, we always believe that one small error should not define who or what a restaurant is. Overall we continue to give this place a HUGE rap, and will continue to frequent them.More

Our group have been friends for 30+ years (that makes me feel old) and have lived in Byron shire, raised our families here and now enjoy getting out without kids in support of local restaurants. This is one place that knows it’s market, knows it’s...food and excels at service. Over the years we have seen many places come and go and lack of quality for price is often a recurring theme, as is a feeling that the tourist $ trumps all. A gripe of ours is when table service becomes over service and someone( generally multiple staff) is interrupting or refilling a glass every few minutes. This team had great timing, and knew to space out our meals enough so that we could enjoy each others company and the food in peace. The food itself was delicious, simple flavours and cooked well. Our wine was lovely, and overall we enjoyed the meal and the service. We didn’t think it was overpriced. Consistency is key, and this being the third time we have come back we want to also mention that the quality, presentation and flavours have all been consistent each time. To me, this is the mark of a thoughtful, considerate place that appreciates its audience. Thanks for a lovely evening!More
