Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a delightful lunch. Service was great and equaled by the food. They even happily supplied a doggy bag! Price was more reasonable than I expected. Definitely on my list for a return.

Traveling through Ballina to the Gold Coast, my husband and I had booked the Che Bon restaurant a week before and looking very much to dining there. The restaurant was a pleasure to sit in. Beautiful French music playing. The staff attentive and pleasant. We...both ordered the Canard A L’Orange dish and we both agreed it was the best we had ever tasted. The duck was cooked to perfection, moist and deliciously tender. The sauce and the creamy carrot mash complemented the dish. We also has a side dish of the vegetables and I am already trying to think how they were cooked so I can try to replicate the dish at home. The creme brûlée and the chocolate gateau were also both superb. Wish this restaurant was at the Gold Coast. I would consider driving down for the weekend just to dine at Che Bon.More

Whilst the service was friendly there was none. They didn't seem to know how to. Once our food order was place it took far too long and we arrived at 6pm with 2 kids. Having to ask 3 times for the bottle of wine I'd...ordered before we received our entrees and still didn't have it when mains arrived is pretty poor. The French onion soup was ordinary and lacked flavour. The snails were tasty. The steak was fabulous and perfectly cooked, however the bouille Bon, which one presumes is a bouillbaise was bland, no broth and too much mashed potato. It all just lacked..and sadly I'd wished I'd just taken the family somewhere else. Very disappointingMore

Authentic French cuisine with very friendly and attentive French staff. Reasonable prices for the set menu with options for children. The French Chardonnay wine was lovely and the lychee martini was delicious! We had a lovely evening, thank you Che Bon and all the best...for 2024!More

My meal, of escargot and confit duck was AWESOME. I can't fault the meal in any way... 10 out of 10. The lychee Martini was on target, served by great staff, in a lovely setting.

Second dinner here in Three weeks, but dined at Tintenbar version a few years ago. Excellent in every way. Service impeccable and extremely helpful. One of our group was gluten and dairy free but the menu was adjusted accordingly. The food was outstanding, despite a...menu limited to 5 entrees and 5 mains. The three of us had the escargot, pate, and the beef tartare for entree, with two confit duck and one seafood for mains. Crème brûlée and mousse were desserts. All good amazing. The suggested wine accompaniment was perfect. Che Bon offers a choice of two or three courses and this represents excellent food at a reasonable price. The drinks list is extensive and although the wine list is predominantly French the cost may seem a little high but the value wins out. Top recommendation!More

We rolled up without a booking, as all times were booked out on website. We were accommodated outside (al fresco style) and on a warm night it was absolutely perfect! The meals were amazing, and very true to their origin. Escargot, Duck, Kangaroo, Crème Brûlée,...were all cooked to perfection and wonderful to savour! The wine was perfectly suggested according to my palate, which also paired well with the meal. The staff were so friendly and personable. My husband and I could not fault this lovely piece of France plonked in beautiful downtown Ballina. We will definitely visit again, next time we are in this area. (Please take heed of chef’s suggestion with regards to how to have the kangaroo cooked! It needs to be rare on the the medium side! Try it! You’ll loooove it! Thank you …to the staff of ache Bon.More

Dined at Che Bon last night and had a wonderful meal. The service was exceptional, and all staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. We both had the 2 course option and shared the dessert. We paid a fair price for...a beautiful meal. The restaurant even provides sparkling or still water for free. We have paid over $10.00 a bottle at other restaurants. We have been here several times over the years and never had a bad meal. Will continue to visit as often as possible. There is also a shop where you can purchase lovely products from France and a very reasonable cost. Worth taking these treats home for tomorrow. Thanks so much to you all for making our night perfect. Cheers John & MarieMore

Disappointed in most of our meals. The Escargot was tiny & a lot of oil, however the duck liver pate was by far the best I have ever had. The main of pork was dry.
