We met friends for dinner here the other night and although the menu is small compared to most restaurants in town, it had a lovely selection of small plates and a few entree sized dishes. My husband and I both had pasta - his was prepared with manila clams in a tomato based sauce, and mine had some meat and... More

My best 'GoTo' place to meet for small plates or a full meal. The small Bistro style place takes my emotions right back to small places that I love in France. The food is inventive and uniformly good. Local ingredients, fresh and in season, are featured. It is April so I ate a seared halibut portion with nettles and nasturtium... More

Nice place on one many pdx food streets. Food is unpretentious but very tasty. Mix of sophistication and goodness. Rabbit ragu was good, not red sauce, pork loin tender and tasty, chicken excellent. Wine suggestions are spot on, good variety and fair pricing. Have been more than once and will go again.

My wife and I decided to take advantage of Portland Dining month and go to a restaurant we'd passed by hundreds of times, but never ate at. This was our first meal at Bar Avignon, but won't be our last. The cocktails were wonderful, the service superb, the wine selection amazing. And the service! Beyond outstanding. A lot of restaurants... More

My wife and I stopped here on a whim and couldn't have been happier. Each course was excellent, as we're the mixed drinks. Sit at the bar and watch the kitchen at work. They're incredibly in sync and it's like getting a great show alongside a top notch meal.

Two of us went here at 7 P.M. on a Saturday. I was seated promptly but then completely ignored for over ten minutes. I finally caught the eye of a bartender and waved him over in order to get a drink. Don''t know how long I might have sat there if I hadn't made that effort. The restaurant was not... More

LE PIGEON is justifiably Portland's top French-American restaurant with innovative cooking, but not so far away is BAR AVIGNON, an excellent wine bar with a lot of good wines by the glass, and a first-rate kitchen turning out excellent dishes that take full advantage of the bounty of the Pacific Northwest. The cuisine is strongly French-influenced. Eric Joppie, who was... More

We had heard about Bar Avignon and had it on the agenda to visit, but hadn't gotten there for whatever reason. Having recently been in Avignon, France, we thought this was the time. I am not a fan of trendy places; I expected a pretty trendy spot and, along with that, a so-so experience. I was dead wrong. The atmosphere... More
