We just arrived in Portland and checked in our hotel in the northwest part of Portland. I read about St. Jack's happy hour special on oysters. We arrived in time for happy hour. The bar area is very bright and cheerful. Our waitress was Cecile. She welcomed us with a very warm smile. She did a amazing job taking the... More

When I think of a French Bistro, some words that come to mind are charming, cozy, laid-back, great food. Well, St Jack's did not meet these expectations. The restaurant, while very nice, seemed a bit pretentious. The food was simply average. I had the veal chop, which was served lukewarm and well done, even though I ordered it medium. Others... More

French cuisine in a cozy open kitchen environment. Service was attentive. Portions were on the smaller side (which isn't bad). Prices were on the higher side. Delicious factor was good.

My husband and I dine at St. Jack about 6 times a year. Always amazing! We think it's one of the best places in Portland. We love dining at the chef's table so we can watch them preparing everything. The service is always top notch, the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable and cocktails amazing! Never a disappointment here. 👍🏻

I was pleasantly surprised by the menu--dishes one would find in France. From Steak Tartare to Gratin d'Escargots for starters to Mushroom and Foie Gras stuffed Quail. The Beef Cheek Bourguignon was tender and flavorful; my companion had the Duck Cassoulet and raved about its flavor. Can't go wrong!

For all the reviews, I was waiting for magical french cuisine, but it is just average food with a lot of sauce with even a bit too much salt.

St. Jack prepares genuine French cuisine in a comfortable setting on Northwest 23rd in Portland. Tripe and blood sausage for the adventuresome, steak frites for the more cautious. Everything is delicious. For a special treat, try the crispy pork rind with maple syrup. The Lyonnaise salad is also excellent. If you still have room for dessert, the Madeleines are outstanding.... Brassieres in France can be counted on to provide a selection of tried and true French dining staples, nothing fancy just good food in a lively atmosphere. St. Jack is just that. However, the prices, especially the wine, are high enough to be more like a one star restaurant, which St. Jack is not.

This is our favorite restaurant in Portland. We returned just before Thanksgiving and enjoyed every single bite, including fresh oysters, stunning tomato soup, a perfect green salad, steak tartare, steak frites (can't get enough beef @ this place!). Felt as though the bar has expanded; great place for a late evening bite. Service + ambiance are terrific.
