The cozy and romantic setting was perfect for our wedding anniversary dinner celebration. The 3 course dinner was delicious, the wine selection was decent, and the service was great! We enjoyed every minute of the experience. Highly recommended for smaller intimate dinners.

My sister took me to the Joel Palmer House years ago when we were living in the Caribbean and I loved every thing we ordered (and we all ordered different things to share and try). Years later when we bought a bed and breakfast on the OR coast the first thing I wanted to do was return to the Joel... More

This really is our favorite restaurant in the Oregon wine country. Once again, we had a fabulous meal -- celebrating our daughter's 40th birthday on this visit. The service was good, the wine selection fabulous, and the food as superb as always. The 3 or 5 course meals are great options and additional sides are available for a small charge... More

The service and attention to the meal were spectacular. They offer 3 and 5-course meals and they are perfectly choreographed for arrival at the table. Our party enjoyed Beef Stroganoff, Elk and Duck entrees. The only complaint would be that the rooms are small for the diners which leads to service staff constantly passing the tables and conversations from other... More

Food was great, service was mostly great, nice ambiance in a beautiful setting. Very flexible, allowing ala carte, 3 or 5 course menus. Don't force everybody to eat the same way, we had 2 three course, 1 5 course and 1 ala carte order at our table. Also, you can mix and match from the ala carte menu into your... More

Very enjoyable evening with our adult family! Dinner was nice and we were able to bring in our wine to enjoy. The team allowed us to sit and enjoy the food and conversation. Dishes are "mushroom" heavy so if you are a fan, you'll enjoy the food!

Food excellent. However a gratuity was added to bill for only 2 people. 18%. It was deceptive to add it to bill but hide it under the credit card signature paper. I might have added a better tip but when I found this deception I was very angry. If I had added a gratuity of 20% the total gratuity would... More

If you love WILD mushrooms, you must make the pilgrimage here!!! Pre-fixe is a great way to sample all their specialties, but they are always happy to mix it up so dont hesitate to ask.

Our group of four had an excellent experience at the Joel Palmer House! Great food, attentive and friendly service and very good local wine. The chef/owner was very friendly and knowledgable and we enjoyed our conversation with him. It's definitely worth the drive from the Portland/Vancouver area. An extra plus are the excellent and extensive wine tastings available at nearby... More

We went to this restaurant a while ago when Jack, original owner, was operating it with his wife Heidi. We went back again a few days ago and had the great experience of dining there where their son, Chris is now the owner/operator/chef of The Joel Palmer House. Everything we ate was excellent and perfectly cooked. If you go, don't... More

Description
Our family business took shape when my great-grandfather, Joseph Czarnecki, opened Joe's Tavern in 1916 in Reading, Pennsylvania. His son, Joseph Jr., carried on the tradition, transforming the original tavern into Joe's Restaurant and changing the focus to fine dining and wine with wild mushrooms (a family passion) as the centerpiece. My father, Jack Czarnecki, followed in his father's footsteps, taking Joe's Restaurant to a new level while maintaining the mushroom theme. Despite the success of Joe's, our family's lifelong desire was to combine great mushroom hunting with fine wine. This dream was fully realized in 1996 when my parents, Jack & Heidi, purchased The Joel Palmer House and moved the family and the restaurant west. Our cooking revolves around wild mushrooms and truffles which we gather ourselves and with friends. We have always striven to obtain locally raised ingredients in our cooking, and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables. Frequently we will use ingredients found in the cuisines of Mexico, China, Thailand, Poland, and India, so we call our cooking, “freestyle”. And, of course, we are working hard to create dishes which match the glorious wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay.
