Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We’d been looking forward to our visit, and having a great meal with a dazzling view. Well, the view didn’t disappoint. My fish and chips was, however, dull and way overbattered. All the meals in our party were, sadly, average. I don’t understand how such...a lovely setting can generate food of such ‘out-of-the-freezer’ quality.More

Beautiful views and friendly service - very much needed after a long day of adventure on Bruny Island. We drove down from Kettering to this beautiful spot for a beautiful meal. We were warmly welcomed and seated at a high table with views over the...bay. All the menu items were inviting and the desserts exceptional.More

We were here for lunch one day of a tour through Tasmania. The outlook and property are vast. Their own garden grows much of the kitchen produce.

Words can not express the total disappointment in this 1 star restaurant. The chef/ cook should be ashamed to put food like this on a plate. Oyster served in soup bowl full of water.Ploughmans lunch on a dinner plate with 1 piece of cheese stale...bread, boiled egg and pickle veg Omg I could go on but guess by now you have got the drift. Not worth spending your money on.More

Such a great location and when the suns out it's idyllic. The food is great, service friendly and attentive. Nice wines, modestly priced. A fabulous way to spend an afternoon.

Rightly or wrongly, I’d dreamt up that we must go to the Peppermint Hotel because it was connected with those lovely sounding cruises (that we didn’t have time to go on) and so presumably, for the ‘complete cruise package’, the associated lunch venue must have...wonderful food and wonderful views….hmmm, can’t really say either is true. If we’d had our time again we probably would not have booked in and sat at the inside area, but we just would have turned up, taken a no-booking outside table, as most people seemed to be doing, had some fish n chips and a glass of wine and enjoyed being out under the umbrellas. Sitting inside up at the window bench seating meant we could look out, yes, but it wasn’t comfortable seating at all, and to get anyone’s attention you had to keep turning yourself around for long periods to try to catch someone’s eye. And the staff seemed VERY good at not looking around the room to see if anyone needed anything!!! It’s a surprisingly limited menu and it would have been incredibly unworkable had there not been some specials available as extras - we got some oysters and fish croquettes from the specials and they were fine. From the menu itself, the scallops we had were overpowered by the prosciutto and the octopus dish wasn’t good. We doubt it was fresh at all and just tasted awfully like heated up pickled octopus.More

My husband and I have done this cruise many times over the years. We really enjoyed it this year as well except for the food. The cruise, service, music and fireworks were fantastic, but the whole experience was spoiled by a very poor dinner. At...$350 per head, this is an expensive night and one could at least, expect a decent meal. The ‘canapés’ were almost non existent and the menu had no choices. The servings were tiny and many people that I spoke to when we were returning home on the boat were also disappointed. I would really miss this event if it was no longer held. But, please Peppermint Bay, there is room for improvement with your catering.More

Ok, ploughmans at $22, what do you think it should have? Crusty bead? No, two slices of really dry bread, small. Pickled onions and other chutney? No, an ok cauliflower pickle, very little, took over 10 mins to get a liitle more upon request. Meats...such as ham, roast beef? No a square piece of fat and some kind of tasteless meat. Tomato? Nope. At least three types of cheese? No, one small triangle of hard and tasteless cheese, quite horrible. All in all and this is not inflating this. Horrible, small, should never have ploughmans as as description, grossly over priced, staff not alert.... Do not go, you will be dissapointed. Will never go backMore

This is a must visit for lunch if you are anywhere close by. The view is always exceptional across the channel but todays lunch was superb. Bruny Island oysters, perfectly cooked steak and a sensational orange blossom meringue made for a very memorable meal.

This is a special venue with great atmosphere and service. The restaurant was even decked out with beautiful poppies. The food was good, the menu wasn’t that exciting or extensive though.

My husband and me found this delightful restaurant while driving past. I'm so glad we stopped! What a beautiful find with such an amazing backdrop. We both had fish and chips and I have to say it was the best we've had in all our...travels all over the world. The young man serving was so polite and very helpful. We've decided if we come back to Tasmania, we will definitely stay at the Hotel. We highly recommend.More

This appealing gastro pub has one of the best waterside views you can get close to Hobart. If you can't find something you like on the menu at the Pepprmint Bay Hotel , you must be hard to please. My dining partners had seafood; I...had a steak, medium rare. The selection of craft beers is better than average.More

Peppermint Bay is a gastro pub. While we had lunch, we looked out over Peppermint Bay. My dining partner had calamari, which can be rubbery if it's not cooked well, but she said it was delicious. I had steak, medium rare, which was also cooked...to my tastes. I had a pint of craft beer, it went well with my steak, This a better sort of gastro pub, we will return when we are in the area.More
