Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The look of the cafe is not really appealing but the service and food is very good. The food is fresh and nicely cooked. The calamari is delicious. Sizes are substantial but they are happy for you take away an left-overs.

Travelling for work between the far NE coast and Hobart, I had a craving/need for a fresh seafood lunch. I stopped at the Oyster Bay Seafood and immediately recognised that the menu did not appear to offer either fresh or inviting. No salad, no fruit,...no veg. Starved, I ordered the breadcrumbed scallops anyway, assuming that there would be something (parsley even) to balance the fat and protein. I received hard crusted scallops (x 10) with no presentation, salad, or anything (apart from condiments at an additional price) that was of interest. The hard crust was disconnected from the teeny tiny scallops and for $17? $18? dollars was just having a lend. Owners - apologies, but I had neither the time nor inclination to provide you with face to face feedback. But frankly, the front house service was neither welcoming or service- focussed. In short, you should be embarrassed. The scallops were TINY andMore

This sort of place destroys Tasmania's reputation for great seafood..Badly in need of maintenance and cleaning especially outside. Drab and don't know why we ordered. Lady behind the counter had a problem with finding a tea bag, this didn't fill us with confidence. Fish and...chips was ok, a small serve for the price and had to ask for a slice of lemon. Would not recommend, they need to up their game. With a name like Oyster Bay Seafood, it paints a picture which is not fulfilled. Can totally understand why we were the only patrons at lunchtimeMore

Very basic preparation. But the fish and the seafood used was fresh and of good quality. There's a diverse range of reviews for this place perhaps people have different expectations. I found my takeaway mixed box pretty good. Bit over crumbed but good produce.

I wish I could rate a minus 100 for this place. The service was unfriendly. The food was greasy and oozed fat. I took 1 bite of the fish and there was no way I would take a second one. The chips were dry and...half cooked and to top all that it was EXPENSIVE. When I made a complaint the male who was young, strong looking and tall almost started to get physical to me and I am 75 years of age. This place should be shut down immediately as it gives this beautiful seaside town a bad name. If this was the only eatery here I would strongly suggest GO HUNGRY. I actually reported them to the Health Department.More

My senses told me it was going to be bad and we should have left immediately but I gave them a try and I’ll never ever ever go back or recommend to anyone. Place is messy, unclean, like very dirty, very dated and in need...of serious maintenance and just crappy looking which suits the food you are served. Nothing fresh nothing good. Didnt even get any sauce or lemon, I paid 60c for one small wedge of lemon, and 60cents for awful tartare that was that artificial Mayo that can be kept on a shelf. Only took one bite of the hard over fried frozen fish and then felt sick for hours after. I can handle truck stop fast food but this was even well below truck stop standard and pricey. AVOID AVOID AVOID.More

It was Sunday night. A very wild and windy day. About 5.30pm. Only 2 places open. The first one looked awful so we walked to the other end of the street to the other one. Same sort of menu - a little more expensive -...but we couldn’t be bothered walking all the way back to the other. Everything looked a bit dirty and messy. Mismatched cheap furniture and. no attempt to make the place look inviting. But we were hungry and had no other option. We ordered our fish and chips and had drinks from the fridge. I spilled a little of mine on the table, wiped it up with a spare tissue (no serviettes anywhere) and to my horror found the tissue covered in black dirt! We should have left then but soon after our order arrived and actually it wasn’t too bad. Generous serving, overcooked but edible. The service was OK but. nothing more. We were the only ones there and it seemed that they were happy to see us gone. One of the worst experiences we’ve ever had.More

No Tasmanian seafood here. Sad that all their seafood comes from overseas. Crayfish looked like prawns.

Oysters were fresh and very delicious, the fish and chips were good but not great. The seafood overall is fresh and would recommend after a day at wineglass bay

Don't go there we ordered Fish and Chips to take away, extremely expensive, had to forcibly eat them as it was our dinner, threw most of it out, we do go to Swansea often but will definitely not be eating there.

The restaurant was popular and noisy and we had to book (always recommended in Tasmania!) It has a good position overlooking the shore. The service was efficient in a no-nonsense, almost customer unfriendly way but was adequate. The food was mainly fried and of average...quality so not a great dining experience. As was often the case in Tasmania there is not much choice in a given area so popularity does not necessarily mean excellent (or even good) dining.More

It's a place you won't come back again. The decoration seems okay with quite a lot photosu on the wall from previous customers. The food is relative expensive with such quality and the amount of the food. Ordered 3 fried white ting, one fried noodle...with a little diced fish chop and prawn, 1/2 dozen fried oyster, a so called sea food set, two kids soft drink, charged $96. The most unpleasant experience is asking for addition plate to share, they gave you dirty dish still with stain and oil and even not a normal dish, which the dish is a side dish. Our group has total 5 people including two kids, initially they only gave 2 dishes, after asking for more, the staff suggested to share among the rest of the people with the dish already had food on, what a joking! I went to the counter asking for the plate which is one time plate, they suggested it's costing you additional money. It's ridiculous!More

You had a good experience , fresh fish is expensive I agree. When your a local is unfortunate and annoying to see tourist get ripped off in comparison to other seafood shops in the State.
