We have had fantastic meals from the Barkmill in the past but very disappointed with the meals. Two of my friends ordered pizza that came out burnt one was replaced and the second one my friend was told by the female manager to eat around...the burnt pieces. This is such bad service and the rudness of her voice. Will not return for meals.More

As a person with a long-standing wheat allergy, I have always been diligent about ordering gluten-free options. In April 2023 I had a deeply concerning experience at Bark Mill Tavern & Bakery in Swansea, which compels me to share my unfortunate experience. I ordered there...on the phone a gluten-free pizza for takeaway. Upon receiving the pizza, we headed back to Swansea Beach Chalets where we were staying. The pizza box was reassuringly labeled "gluten-free" by hand but the pizza was not served on any additional, for example, aluminum tray. Approximately 30 minutes after consuming the entire pizza, I began experiencing severe symptoms of an anaphylactic shock. The severity of my allergic reaction necessitated an emergency call for an ambulance. Stabilizing my condition took about two hours, and only then was it possible to transport me to the hospital. It was a fight for my life. This particular incident not only endangered my life but also cast a shadow over what was meant to be a pleasant holiday with my family. We are from Europe and it was our third day in Tasmania. In my opinion, either a mistake was made and a regular pizza was prepared for me instead of a gluten-free one, or there was negligence in preparing the gluten-free pizza. The next day, when I left the hospital, we went to Bark Mill Tavern & Bakery to seek explanations. I took there some photos of the oven used to bake pizzas. I want to highlight that both the oven and the utensils used to put in and take out pizzas were heavily contaminated with a flour, suggesting that the restaurant does not properly separate gluten-free pizzas from the rest. As I mentioned before my pizza was not served on any additional, for example, aluminum tray what is typical procedure in Europe. The only compensation the shift manager offered us was a refund for the pizza, approximately 20 dollars. My life is worth more than 20 dollars. I nearly orphaned my two-year-old son, and my wife nearly became a widow thousands of kilometers away from home. This experience has raised significant concerns about the restaurant's commitment to food safety and the accuracy of their gluten-free offerings. Given the potential severity of allergic reactions, especially for those with life-threatening allergies, I strongly advise others to exercise extreme caution when considering dining at Bark Mill Tavern & Bakery. From my experience I do not recommend this restaurant under any circumstances. In the interest of public health and safety, I hope that Bark Mill Tavern & Bakery takes immediate and comprehensive measures to ensure incidents like mine do not happen again in the future.More

We have family in the Swansea region, and when we regularly visit them, we have our evening meal at the Bark Mill Tavern. In the past, the Bark Mill Tavern has had a comprehensive menu, plus a Specials Board, which often made meal selection difficult,...and no matter which meal was chosen, it was always most delicious. Definitely not so on our recent visit. The menu was very limited, and the meals selected were only tolerable. My chicken parmigama was very dry, and the topping did nothing to moisten this dryness. The accompanying salad was very tired and the greens wilted. My companion's fish and chips were tolerable, but the fish was too overloaded with batter. The staff were very friendly and wanting to be helpful, but we felt sad for them, as their commitment to customer service was not backed up by management, due to the lack of quality of the meals that the staff had to present. We are very disappointed about our experience at the Bark Mill Tavern, and the demise of the restaurant, as in the past this has been the best place in Swansea for an evening meal.More

We were staying at Swansea Beach Chalets so this was a great choice for us it was situated at the end of the street, on the town main road. This was great as we could have a meal and some drinks and still close enough...to walk home. The pub is cosy and has a decent menu. We had several meals here and enjoyed playing Keno here as well. They also have a bakery attached and we had a fantastic breakfast here before we set off on our next destination. Definitely reccommend.More

Unfortunately the restaurant was overbooked (we had booked the previous night but there was no record of our booking) and although they tried to accommodate us in a separate area the service and meals were very under par. The manager had blamed a casual staff...member for taking the booking. One of our party sent his meal back and was not given a replacement until nearly everyone had finished their meals. He had asked for a T-bone steak medium rare and first he received a well done one, the second which took about half an hour to arrive, was blue. He spoke with the manager who said his and another of our party’s meals would be free, however when we payed we worked out later that neither had been removed from the bill. Pretty disappointing service unfortunately.More

Not a lot of choice in Swansea and this place looked the best. Sadly it did not live up to expectation. Uninspiring menu and unhelpful staff. Like I say there isn’t much choice so it’s a captive audience but I wouldn’t recommend or go back.

Top end price for pub food but the Chefs delivered with both my wife and my dishes being very tasty. What let it down was the service of the waitresses. Now, they could have had a few "Karens" beforehand, I don't know but it was...very lacklustre. It was surprising because both bar staff had great customer skills but the two girls were just...uninspiring ( we were the only ones there yet no checking were the meals OK, no checking did we need anything...we did, I ended up going and asking one of the chefs for things, which was embarrassing for me as I know Chefs don't need to be doing that, especially as one of the waitresses was in the kitchen eating chips whilst the chef helped me. As I said, maybe a bad night for the girls but the food is good and decent serves.More

Very good food. Bacon, eggs, sausage roll, blueberry muffin. The majority of staff were friendly, smiling, happy. Unfortunately one waitress was extremely rude. The place is busy with tourists, tables are turned over quickly, When asked if our table could be wiped our reply was...rolling of the eyes and told maybe this could be done in 10mins. It's laughable. If customer service is not your jam, find a job with no customer contact. At the time of leaving the table was still not cleaned. Oh dearMore

When we were there, operating hours for the Bakery was from 6:00 am and breakfast from 7:00 am with lunch/dinner through to I think 8:00 pm and drinks until 10:00 pm. But best you check with them on arrival in the area.
