There's not a huge choice of dining options in Strahan. We had been warned that things can get hectic when the curtain comes down on "The Ship That Never Was" and that one would be wise to book a table if one was going to the show. We were looking for relatively close to the amphitheatre so plumped for View 42 even though neither of us is particularly enamoured of buffet dining. This meal did nothing to change our attitude - it was very ordinary. The hot food, frankly, looked so thoroughly unappetising that neither of us was inclined to try it which left cold meats, sea food and salads. Some of the latter were exactly the same as had been served on the Gordon River cruise earlier in the day. I thought that at least I could finish the meal with a nice platter of cheese and biscuits. Unfortunately even here the choice was unenterprising and boring. At $75 per head it just wasn't good value for money.

Our tour included a seafood buffet dinner. Location overlooks river and Strahan wharf area. Staircase access or parking at top. Not many photos taken of the food as once it was set up and people were invited to serve themselves, there was no opportunity. Food kept disappearing. Prawns, oysters, whole fish, salads and hot food, vegetables, and dessert section. At the time we went it was $75Au per pax excluding drinks. A large dining room and an outdoor area overlooking the wharf and sunset. The buffet food was generous and fresh. Food kept being topped up so plenty of it. Worth the price. Enjoy.

This restaurant sits on top of a hill overlooking Strahan, so the views are amazing, it's an all you can eat buffet quite expensive per person, but the buffet does include fresh local seafood, salads, fresh cold meats and a large array of beautifully cooked dishes, soups and absolutely delicious desserts. We left there feeling very happy and sated. Delicious dinner.

This restaurant was booked solid the night we went however we were offered an option to load a plate from the buffet for $30- and and sit in the lounge area. We’re so glad we did! What a fabulous array of food, especially seeing as it was Good Friday! We were also offered a separate bowl to load up on dessert from their offerings. Fresh and delicious! The view was also amazing! We highly recommend having a meal at this restaurant if staying in Strahan! The staff were friendly and extremely welcoming. Do yourself a favour and go!

Had our first meal ever at View 42 in low season/August.
Current a la carte menu had a nice variety of sea food, meat and a veggie option plus a choice of desserts or a cheese platter. Good wine/drinks list too.
Seafood platter was excellent it was like having a paella without the rice rather than just being a big bowl of deep fried stuff on top of some chips !!.
All was served at a good pace which neither made us feel rushed or wanting and the members of staff that served us were very pleasant and helpful.
At the time of dining (Aug 2022) 2 courses for $55 or 3 courses for $70 plus drinks.
I have seen reviews here regarding a buffet, no comment as it was not an option for us, I assume the buffet may be more practical for View 42 in peak season.
Dining room itself is very pleasant with views over Strahan harbour, and on entry there is a separate lounge bar area with a cosy fire.
Bonus points for real table cloths !!
Only disappointment was as we visited in low season View 42 was not open for breakfast too, would have been good to see what they had on offer.

So loved this place for late afternoon drinks then dinner, so much to choose from. We purchased 1 adult and 1 child buffet plate as I have a dietary restriction, they were happy to provide as long as we purchased for 1 adult. Really great seafood and meats to choose from, and was well managed by the friendly staff. Staff were quick to remove dirty plates from our table.

Arrived 7pm following play "The Ship that never was" who were extremely covid safe, insisting everyone where a mask, audience participation must sanitise before and after handling play props.
The restaurant greeted us warmly and we paid, they made it clear we must wear masks when at buffet. Eager to get some oysters then sat down, looking across a group of elderly at the buffet were helping themselves to the food without masks, let alone some were not even tall enough to have any effect on the sneeze glass shield. My wife approached the chef about them not wearing a mask, he replied it is not good and wandered off. Thinking he said something to wait staff seemed a myth. We raised the issue with the wait staff who said she will talk to their tour guide. Again elderly arrived with masks. I then called wait staff, who said she had told the tour guide, I said its her job, please ask the manager to see me, or I'm happy to go to the buffet to request these people put masks on. The manager never arrived. The wait staff did not attend the buffet either to enforce the wearing of masks.
If department of health where there i would think the food would have been removed and a huge fine imposed.
Not a place for health and safety.
Great view

We went there for my birthday, have been a long time ago. The buffet was excellent, large range of food, including seafood,,, I particularly enjoyed the oysters and prawns , there was a huge choice of salads and hot dishes. The desserts were great, I had 2 helpings of the blood orange sorbet, to die for. I can strongly recommend view 42 , views of the harbour were stunning , and the service was excellent

We ate here two consecutive nights. The full all-you-can-eat buffet costs $75 however there is a better option IMO.
For $30 you can purchase a single (very large) plate that you can consume in the bar or outdoor areas. We found this was perfect and offered both variety and great value.
Highly recommended.

I’m not a fan of buffet meals but we decided to try this one. It was surprisingly good and offered a range of fresh seafood. The prawns were nice and fresh and there were plenty of oysters. All the salads were tasty and fresh and what I tried of the hot food was very good. I filled up on prawns, oysters and salmon so sampling of hot food was limited. Desserts were ok but nothing special. The view is excellent and it would be worth making the climb to have a pleasant drink and enjoy the view if you don’t want a buffet.

We booked at the restaurant on the recommendation of friends. We were assigned to our table right on time at 7.30pm. A coach tour was being seated at the same time so we were a little concerned. Our concerns were unwarranted, access to the buffet was easy and the food was delicious. Plenty of prawns & oysters and a whole trout satisfied our seafood lovers and our non seafood lover enjoyed brisket, pork belly, lots of vegetables & salads. Drink service was super efficient and friendly. The buffet was consistently replenished and cleaned down with antiseptic cleaning tools. Well worth the price for food quality & views. Highly recommend.

Ate here the first night in town tried to eat on our last night was told it was fully booked closed the restaurant to a large group staying in the hotel. I have no problem with this however was no mentioned to us that restaurant was closed met several other couples who traveled to Strahan just to dine here only to be told sorry fully booked. When we did dine here food was excellent value $59 for choices available I suggest if you are traveling here you ask before you come and book before hand.

After reading some not so great reviews of this restaurant we decided to order pizza here as it was convenient to where we were staying, and to our surprise the pizza's were delicious, generous in size and had plenty of toppings. We also read about long wait times and we waited exactly 6 minutes for our order to be ready to eat!!!! Absolutely no complaints here what so ever. As for value for money they are comparable to other more boutique style pizza place's and comparable in price to those, they are not a chain pizza store with $5 pizza's nor are they trying to be ( thank goodness!).

Really disappointed. The menu sounded terrific and we were excited to pick our food up and dig in. When we arrived to collect the waitress who appeared to be staffing the whole service area on her own, on a public holiday weekend???? Seemed very rushed. Our food appeared on the pass and then continued to sit there getting cold for almost 20 minutes. As we left finally food in hand we realised the poor staff member had walked out in a fit of stress and exhaustion and was crying in the carpark. The chicken was flavourless and the loaded sweet potatoes were missing most of the ingredients advertised on the menu and was just served with cheese and jalepenos on top. The pizza was nice but cold. Such a shame to see a first class restaurant serving sub-par food and failing to support its staff in busy periods.
