My wife and I had a great dinner at this restaurant. The interior is lovely and airy with huge floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides so you will always have a great view. We did think the tables are set a little close to each other, so when a window table came available, the staff were great in helping us swap tables. We did think they are a little understaffed as they all seemed to be rushed off their feet and you could rarely attract their attention.
But the food was great. We started with bloody mary oysters which were superb. I would happily go back and consume a whole dozen of those. Our mains were also excellent, probably because we purposely avoided the fried options and went for the pan fried fish options. Both of our meals were excellent. And then we teated ourselves to dessert - also excellent.
Overall it was a very good meal and I would happily eat there again.

Overlooking the marina is an ideal setting for a restaurant, we watched the black swans come and go and loved seeing the boats. The interior is lovely and so are the staff, very friendly and efficient. We stayed at the caravan park which has a curtesy bus and a drink voucher for two if we eat here. We both had the gummy shark with chips and salad which left us bloated which we put down to the heavy batter, so wished we had ordered something different. Lucky we had free drinks!

We ate at the takeaway side of the business. The food was fresh and tasty however it lacked quantity given the price. We ordered a medium chips and received a portion that was barely enough to satisfy two children who are not big eaters.

Turned up 20 minutes late with an apology in hand but then had to wait an extra 5 minutes because of a large queue. Our apology unnecessary because they had already given our table away. No apology provided by the restaurant. We were then asked to stand in an area to be given a new table which was made available within minutes but which was situated in the middle of the restaurant surrounded bu other tables. We felt angry, embarrassed and unfairly treated and were considering leaving the restaurant but decided to order drinks.
Twenty minutes later, we had to remind the waitress that we had not received our drinks which were then provided within a minute.
The meal was received within 5 minutes of ordering it which was an unwelcome surprise. The food was reasonable but terribly overpriced - $81 for battered fish with salad and salmon with salad on top of two glasses of wine.
Upon leaving, the waitress was unable to find our order on their system which she finally realised had been recorded against another table.
It was clear to us that the restaurant was well staffed but overrun by customers. I have never before written this type of review against a restaurant but felt that their policy of giving away a table because we were 20 minutes late was a poor decision and totally unnecessary.
I hope that the restaurant owners review this policy which left us feeling disappointed by this whole dining experience.

breaking up our journey up the east coast on our way to a stay in Launceston, we stayed the night in St Helens after visiting the bay of fires. service was excellent and the seafood excellent - we ordered a second plate of oysters as a starter, as they were so good. Pru had the fish of the day and I had the gummy shark "fish and chips" - a delight to eat all that we had - and reasonably priced too

Ordered a lobster roll to take away along with fish and chips. We waited and saw that the person preparing the roll wasn't wearing gloves as she put the ingredients into the roll. This is, of course, against health department regulations even pre-dating the requirements of COVID19. We said to the person preparing the roll that due to the preparing method we didn't want the roll any longer and wanted a refund. She told us that she was washing her hands between ingredients while she was preparing the roll. This wasn't the case. She was wiping her hands on a Chux superwipe, another unsanitary practice. Another employee came from the rear of the shop and said that we could get another made with the food preparer using gloves. We were suspicious of the whole operation at this stage and asked for a full refund. This was done grudgingly. The person preparing the food, the only person front of house, obviously hadn't received adequate training. This take away is actually illegal in the way that the operation prepares food.

Wanted to order 2 pieces of fish that was in the hot display cabinet but told that was not how it was sold. With customers lining up behind me it was explained that fish was sold cooked by weight and that it was $14 per serve. Finally settling on 1 serve of fish I would then have to purchase chips for an additiinal $3.50 a serve.
I paid for my purchase and on receiving my food found the 2 pieces of fish that I purchased as 1 serve was what I wanted originally but the were size of 2 large fish fingers. This was very expensive a very confusing purchasing experience and extremely ordinary food.
Sadly will not recommend this establishment to any other travellers.

The fish & chips were so oily it was inedible. The ham & pineapple pizza was all cheese also inedible. The “barista”made coffee was lukewarm & we wondered if they forgot the coffee. I would never go back disgusting food

Christmas Eve around 6.30, ordered fish and chips for 2 and sat out the front in the takeaway eatin seating.
The food both the fish and chips were stinky, oily and inedible.
The cooking oil obviously needed changing.
Very disappointing and would never go back there.
Just wish now I had taken a photo of the meal so you could have seen how disgusting it was.
Not good enough for a town relying on tourists.

We are originally from NZ so visiting Tasmania you just substitute eucalyptus for pine trees and vice versa.
The great advantage here is that the produce is just first class so there really are no excuses to get it wrong!
The Wharf Bar And Restaurant certainly did not get it wrong, we dined there twice while in St Helens and really could not fault the food the wine ad the service. A tiny criticism would be that it is a little loud however some well placed soft furnishings would take care of this.
Two meals thoroughly enjoyable!

Lovely views, however I ordered the lamb and after not being able to cut through it with the knife on the table I requested a steak knife and although I could now cut it, the meat was very tough and chewy! I had two other people at the table also try it and they agreed it was tough. When the waitress came for the dishes I provided her with the feedback and she said she thought it was strange I had asked for a steak knife for lamb and she would provide the feedback to the chef. No one came to say anything more about it and we were charged full price for the meal. I think the restaurant should deal with these concerns in a pro-active way so they encourage people to return and gain a positive reputation for quality customer service.

Went to this beautiful restaurant where staff were really friendly and efficient.views are amazing but you have to match that with good food! My fish was called gummy shark deep fried with fries . The fish was not cooked .it was still silver grey and could not cut with a knife. I ate the thinner pieces which were white and flakey and finished the chips. I did not complain or send it back but the waitress asked was I not happy with the food when she collected the plate . I told her not cooked . The manager then tried to tell me the fish was cooked but ,silly me , it was a meaty fish !!!!!
On leaving I asked him not to patronise me and treat me like a fool. I am 60 have eaten ,prepared and cooked fish all my life . I have eaten fish all over the world with my job and my travels so I can tell you I know raw fish when I see it .
Maybe when he gets some experience and puts the raw fish in his mouth then he can tell me it's cooked. Have some respect for your customers ...they are always right and have probably seen the inside of more restaurants than you can even imagine .

Unfortunately this visit was disappointing. I had the vegetable tagine which when I received it found the celery and pumpkin not cooked at all. Very unhappy. My husband had the pork and bug meal - again was disappointed as the pork crackling was not crisp it was soft and tasted horrible also he did not enjoy the rest if the meal. I hate writing negative reviews but at a cost of $63 we were very upset. We won't be back again sorry to say.

Arrived at Wharf Bar & Kitchen on a short East Coast break to be met with beautiful surroundings and a table on the water. Wait staff were professional, friendly and super helpful assisting with a special menu request and advising on local wine. Terrific atmosphere in a stunning location.

We visited on a cold night so sitting by the window wasn't actually a treat - I had to keep my coat on. The tempura cauliflower was delicious but way too much, even for two of us.
I ordered the vegetable bowl for $28 and it was a mixed bag, some cold, some warm, some uncooked and some crunchy. I complained and the waitress took a long time to get back to me telling me it would be replaced, by which time I'd continued to eat the meal. Unfortunately the replacement wasn't much better. My dining partner had pork belly and it was pretty awful and fatty. Free desserts we're offered but we really weren't interested. No discounts offered at the end. Wouldn't recommend and won't be back.
