S43°8.328' E147°51.351' Gabriel’s is part of the Stewart’s Bay Lodge. Gabriel’s is mainly the restaurant for the Bay Lodge guests, but they also accept outside guests, highlighting local produce. Gabriel’s has a luxury wooden interior with a wood-burning stove and a great outside view. Reservations are recommended. In February of 2020, we ordered a seafood tasting platter for two people: a selection of today’s seafood tapas, battered fish of the day, battered scallops, crispy fries and salad AU$90 for two. Our selection of wine was the Break Creek Riesling white wine ($45), because we like the combination of seafood and Riesling. The seafood was well prepared, tasted excellent and made in combination with the wine an enjoyable dinner. We finished with the vegan vanilla bean coconut panna cotta: torched citrus, berry compote, raspberry sorbet and ruby chocolate shard ($15). The table service started well with the presentation of the wine, but our 7.30pm reservation caused problems with the closing of the kitchen. This happened earlier in another restaurant with an 8pm reservation. Meantime, all guests left the restaurant and waiters started rearranging the tables. They forgot to clear our table and asked for dessert. We left with a malfunction in the service: do not accept reservations if you do not allow your guests enough time to enjoy their dinner.

Superficially fabulous appearance. We had the seafood platter. A very ordinary meal. The battered and fried portions were a bit soggy, as if they were cooked in low temperature oil. The worst part was 3 hours later when I had severe stomach cramps , felt sick in the stomach but just not bad enough to "throw up" . I revisited the restaurant next day and reported what happened . The "waiter" said he appreciated my feedback and woul pass on the message to the chef. No other details were taken from me It didn't seem like an serious consideration was taken about what happened.I question their food preparation or handling methods

The average score is for one poor dish and one above average. Wish I had taken a photo of my main meal. Firstly do not choose the fish and “beer battered chips”. $55 for fish and chips and desert is too much to pay when there is NOTHING special or enjoyable about greasy battered bitter tasting fish and cheap French fries and a small handful of ordinary mixed salad leaves, tasted like it came from a greasy cafe. The week old looking, flavourless, 15mm deep, mousse like, white chocolate raspberry cheesecake was nicely presented. My husband’s lamb was another story, well presented, tasty and well cooked with interesting delicious vegetables. The fruit crumble was average. The staff were pleasant and efficient, somewhat shocked at my quiet disappointment verbalisation, told me he would pass on my comments to the chef. My complaint is not directed at the chef. My complaint is more with the inconsistency of what you get for your money. ie poor fish and chips versus a stunning lamb dish.

We booked this restaurant for dinner on New Year's Eve 2019 in the Port Arthur area. It lived up to our expectations. Firstly the oysters were very tasty and we liked that they were produced locally. So too the Bream Creek chardonnay from a winery on the Tasman Peninsula. While not on the menu my wife asked for her fish to be grilled - a request that was easy for the chefs and I tried the local scallops which were delicious. We were both very satisfied with our meals. And with a view out across Stewart's Bay, excellent waiter service and clean facilities, our evening was perfect. Try this place ... you'll like it!

We arrived here for a late lunch; just before the kitchen closed but were despite that very nicely welcomed and served. My wife had a very delicious pumpkin salad and I ordered squid which were very fresh and cooked to perfection. The two ladies serving did an excellent job.

Superb two course meal in a welcoming atmosphere - gorgeous flavours and the steak was ‘melt in the mouth’. Then to top it off, my husband was presented with a birthday cheesecake lit with candles. Lovely thoughtful service - and we were glad to support local business at this difficult time. Thoroughly recommend.

This is my first review which is very critical of a restaurant. It looked great and the waiter was welcoming but I have to say the food was so disappointing. We both ordered spicy beef kebabs. There were 3 pieces of very rare beef on each skewer. The accompanying vegetables were barely warm. Tabouleh was ok. Accompanying bread was so dry it cracked and the sauce was simply awful. We both left most on our plate and left promptly. There were no questions about whether or not we enjoyed our meals and no check was made shortly after we started our meal. The cost was 28. The meat was not cooked and wasn't spicy. Very disappointing.

We stayed at Stewart’s Bay lodge for 3 days recently and had breakfast and dinner each day at Gabriel’s as part of our package. The food was tasty and there was a great menu to choose from. The staff were friendly and efficient and dealt well with challenges caused by reduced staffing levels as our visit was at the start of the corona virus crisis. Highly recommended!

Port Arthur is restricted in choice for good restaurants at a reasonable price. So “Gabriel’s on the Bay” proved a very good option. We had a great table with a lovely outlook, very efficient and helpful staff. The Bruny Oysters were as good as you will get anywhere ,the Crispy Skin Duck delightful and the Pork Belly tender and tasty. The wine list and drinks provided a fair selection to an excellent night out.

For us the best aspect of this restaurant was that it was on site where we were staying so, as far as being handy and convenient, it did the trick for sure. I’m not sure I’d recommend it though unless you are a guest at Stewart’s Bay Lodge but, then again, local dining options are limited. 2 courses for $55 was probably too high in price for fairly pedestrian food but that food filled a hole pretty adequately. In fact, I’d say the pork belly definitely did that.....my husband said he felt like ‘quite a big meal’ that night and the pork belly was a SLAB! The truffle brie wrapped in prosciutto (a starter) was something different for a change, from the generic starters at hotel restaurants, and pretty tasty too, but the floppy and undressed salad it was sitting on top of, and the ‘lunchbox’ sliced apple pieces as garnish made it look quite average! The fish main course was cooked nicely but, again, what it was sitting on was not good at all - chunky, cold, semi mashed potato! Finally, it is a pity they don’t sell the Bream Creek Riesling by the glass as well as the schonburger as we had a bottle of the Riesling on the second night and it is streets ahead!!!!

We enjoyed a nice meal here. The lamb rump was cooked well and the portion size was more than my wife could eat. My pork belly was better than average, just a touch dry, it was a bit strange, seemed like it was cooked in the oven then finished in the deep fryer. It was tasty enough and went well with the slaw, although there could have been more slaw. We finished with a cheese platter which was nice and enjoyed a bottle of local red. In all a pleasant meal and we didn’t have to walk very far..!

We only had one evening meal at this restaurant but it was absolutely delicious. The menu seemed to require ordering either a two or three course meal for each person so one of us ordered entre and main and the other ordered main and dessert and the staff were very happy for us to share the entre and dessert. All three courses were beautifully presented and very satisfying. Staff were attentive and friendly without being intrusive Unfortunately is was dark during our visit and we weren't able to take in the views of Stewarts Bay - maybe next time. The restaurant is also open for breakfast if you would rather not prepare your own.

We had been told amazing things about this restaurant... sadly it didn’t live up to its reputation. Due to COVID 19 the restaurant was only open for dinner with reservations recommended. We could either order 2 courses or 3 courses and there was a very limited choice. We paid for 5 star price for a 3 star service. The staff were lovely 😊

Disappointed to say the least. Most definitely paying for the view not the food. Staff were lovely and friendly however the food was very average. We were very much looking forward to a nice meal. The menu sounded amazing however the meal itself was very disappointing. Food was dry, over done and tasted far less appealing than described Disappointment sums it up. Undressed rocket, dry meat balls with no flavour and the mains not much better. I wouldn’t recommend unless you are happy to pay for the view alone which is quite nice Absolutely love Tasmania, this is our first negative experience

After two other restaurants in the Port Arthur area were booked out, we were advised to have dinner at Gabriel's. I am so happy we did. What a beautiful location on the bay, great service and amazing food. I didn't think it appropriate to 'take photos' there as it was a lovely 'up market' restaurant and didn't want to look like a 'yobbo' ha. I settled for a fish meal (the fish in Tassie is delectable) while hubby went for a steak. Both meals were delicious. The service was great. After dinner, we walked down over the front of the area overlooking the bay. It's so nice, that it's still 'daylight' late in the day. Many people were taking advantage of the walk. Beautiful spot, lovely meal and a must if you're in the area. Not cheap, but worth it.
