Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The cafe, attached to the Visitors Centre, is a modern, comfortable and welcoming space. We had coffee and lunch here on several occasions during our stay at the Park: the food is good, the coffee is good, the management and staff are very pleasant and there is a good range of gluten free options available.
Totally unexpected and thoroughly enjoyable: I hope they are able to make an ongoing success of the business.

Loved their latte and food. Very pleasant and wonderful service. We enjoyed our little rest at the cafe after exploring Mt Field National Park and the waterfalls. Good food for kids too and prices quite reasonable. Nice souvenir shop. Very good prices for kids' T-shirts (AUD 22.50 for a Wombat T-shirt) compared to other places in Tasmania. Photos and paintings were impressive. There is quite a range to purchase should you wish before heading for Hobart.

Friendly and helpful staff. Toasted sandwiches didn't include just plain cheese, asked if possible to do plain cheese, which was fine. Charged $8.50 for it though, said they would put some extra cheese in it, came out cheese and tomato, had to return, cheese toastie that came out was terrible. Soft drink can was out of date. Hot choc and latte were luke warm and hot choc was half a cup of froth.

Hi NoCrapFromBusinesses Thank you for alerting us to the out of date soft drink, however you left so fast we were unable to remedy the situation, and were completely unaware you had any other issues? I'm sorry you had a bad experience with us, it certainly isn't the type we strive to give. Had you have let me know any of this it could so easily have been fixed and become an outstanding experience. Coffee and Hot Choc could have been remade (my apologies, I was using a new milk for the first time and the cows must have been fed way too much amazing Tassie grass as I did struggle a few times with the texture - when I was alerted I modified my procedure and very happily remade the drink for the 2 others I had not got right). We don't have cheese toasties on our menu no, we simply can't fit everything on there, but we are generally able to modify our options to suit most requests, for obvious reasons we don't adjust prices - as you were advised when you ordered. Again, had you not have been happy with your cheese sandwich I would have happily discussed this with you and we could have remedied the situation.
I admit we don't always get it right, and I apologise we didn't get your visit right. I do however feel a better judgement of a business is how they fix a problem when they are made aware. Had you have spoken with me I know your visit would have left you with a bright happy day rather than an unhappy review. I hope you will give us another chance.

On our way back to Hobart from Lake St Clair we decided to call into Russell Falls for a quick visit. We had some left over snacks (cheeses, apples, trailmix which we thought we could eat for lunch with a cup of coffee in the cafe.
While I ordered the coffees (in china cups for environmental reasons} my OH found a table. He was soon hunted out by one of the staff and told we couldn't bring our own food- so he went outside- again hunted away quite aggressively. I sat at a table and waited for the coffees which were brought out to me.
I asked the reason for the no food policy and told it was for health reasons "there's still covid around". Well that's a very stupid reason. Covid is not spread by food. Every single person going into that cafe could be carrying covid.
Meantime there were young families there who had brought their own toddler food. Why didnt they cause covid???
If this restriction actually is based on commercial considerations why not just say so - though we did buy coffee, so they got our money anyway. Please dont give us BS about 'health reasons" . We are not idiots and it was a very unfriendly experience for a couple of tourists who will end up spending a great deal of $$$ in this state over a 2 week period.

Hi Nozzie, sorry you didn't enjoy your visit. Obviously things were not explained to you adequately and I will address this with my team. It is correct, we don't allow outside food to be consumed at the cafe tables for two reasons, the first is health reasons as I am ultimately responsible for what is eaten at my tables. As we are more than an hour from most people's last adequate refrigeration of their food, I only allow food I know to be safe to be eaten at my tables. (Since you were headed "back" to Hobart from Lake St Clair, i can safely assume the last time your " cheese" was refrigerated would have been 4 to 5 hours). The family with children would have had the same discussion however it would have been a little different as we are all mums and understand small children - the parents would have been asked to please ensure their childrens food "did not include any dairy, meat or anything if not refrigerated correctly could make them sick." The second is, I feel it is pretty disrespectful to visit a cafe and eat your own food - food is my main business offering?
I know my team, and at no time would they have been disrespectful, just made a simple request that "outside food not be consumed at cafe tables." (As per posted signs in both the inside and outside eating areas.) I understand however if you felt this situation confronting and I apologise if you felt that way.
My team should have directed you to the many lovely picnic tables dotted throughout the park where you could happily have enjoyed your picnic. I'm sad that it seems this did not happen as there are some beautiful tables by the waters edge where you can often spot a platypus.

Cafe was Overpriced for what you get. Selection was a couple of burgers, a couple of sandwiches or chips. Maybe they scale back the menu during winter? Also Menu says you can have tea for two at a cheaper price but it’s not available when you go to order only individual pots. Why is it on the menu then? It’s just an over priced deli with nice views. Bring a picnic.

Hey Patrick, i'm sorry but I'm not sure what menu you are looking at? We haven't had pot for two for over 4 years, and our range varies from cakes, homemade scones, soup ($8.90), burgers ($22.90), toasties ($8.50) etc right through to our amazing Pulled Pork Burrito Bowl ($17.90). My favourite dish is the Veg Roll with fried halloumi, our homemade blackberry relish and our crunchy hot chips ($17.90). We have scaled back our range, we have gone from 4 pages of menu to 2, this helps get us through Covid times where we are also often short staffed because of illness but we still have a great range of dishes featuring local ingredients and satisfying just about every dietary requirement possible. Our prices rival those of any City cafe, and do not reflect the differences in running a cafe in a rural location. We think we offer a pretty amazing range, at a suitable price for the size and quality of our meals, in the most beautiful place on earth. I'm really sorry you didn't agree on this occasion.

An absolute joke. I honestly thought they were joking when they said they cant make an espresso/short black when I’m staring at a 3 group espresso machine and they were making every other coffee with a short black as the base. Obviously untrained staff on.
Upon walking in they wouldn’t even allow me to order at the counter and told me to take a seat instead. I did this, no one came and saw us whilst I watched people coming and ordering take away coffees at the counter. I also had 2 young kids with me who are on a time limit.
There was a QR code on the table yet no menu was uploaded and it wasn’t working.
It’s almost laughable (if my kids weren’t hungry).
These guys have absolutely no clue on customer service or how to work in hospitality industry for that matter.
Do not bother coming in here. Drive to the Salmon ponds to their cafe instead.

Hi James, I'm so sorry this was your experience. Sadly, like all businesses right now we are exceptionally short staffed, particularly on a Fagus Weekend and ANZAC public holiday when the entire state comes to see the turning of the Fagus. No excuses for the short black/espresso - someone had a brain fade, and I will address that. As for seating, we request all dine in customers to choose their table before ordering so we can deliver to the table - you do still need to order from the register however. There are a few signs that explain this process, I will also address this with the front of house team as you should have been told "please choose a table and pop back up here with your table number when you're ready to order". Yes, we did disable the QR Code for the busy period as we have had to adjust our entire menu to continue to cater for the numbers with less staff - we have had to adjust many, many processes just to be able to cope.
While there is no excuse for some of the breakdowns that have happened during your visit (and they will absolutely be addressed), I would hope that through a little compassion and understanding of the situation we are currently facing industry wide, you might re-visit at a time that is not a public holiday to witness the business, and my wonderful team, not stretched to breaking point.

I ordered a Burrito Bowl which was 10/10! My husband had the brekky which he loved. Perfect fuel prior to our hiking trip for the day. Staff were friendly and prompt. Very spacious cafe. Enjoyed looking in the gift store afterwards.

Stopped in for a beautiful walk to the falls and decided to have lunch as well. The meals we had were fantastic, great value and super tasty. As it turned out, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but no regrets as everything was worth it. Staff were great and will definitely be going back on my next visit to Tasmania.

Enjoyed a coffee and a snack after our short walk to Russell Falls. The coffee was very good. The homemade melting moment biscuit was the highlight. The service was very good and the staff were friendly. Overall, a very good experience.

Lovely lunch. The garlic infused lamb was tasty -- as were the fries that came with the meal! There were 3 of us and we all ordered something different and all were happy with what we'd chosen!

We had soup of the day. Cauliflower soup which was excellent. Bread was good too. Nachos were average but the other dish that had nachos, beans and rice wasn’t good.

Friendly staff, lovely location and very good coffee!
Staying in the area for 3 nights, we visited the cafe six times. On each occasion we were greeted with helpful staff and served high quality coffee.
