3 of us went for dinner on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was surprisingly busy on arrival at 6:30. We had a reservation for dinner at 7 so we thought it would be nice to have a cocktail in the bar first - what a mistake that was! My Pernod, ice and water arrived after about 10 minutes, then in about 15 minutes time our friends martini arrived and then after another 10 minutes my wife's pina colada arrived. Neither the martini nor the Pina Colada were particularly good. It was clear that the person at the bar had little training and when she was replaced by a more senior staff member, that staff member was continually distracted by new guests arriving at the restaurant. Once we got to the table everything changed for the better. The food and wine was great and it was reinforced to us why this place is at the very top of restaurants in Tasmania.

The Spirit had been delayed so we decided to have a sit down meal and treat ourselves before we left for the mainland.
The restaurant outlook is spectacular and looks out over the ocean. Even though we didn't have a booking, the restaurant catered for us, two kids and two adults.
My husband had the hand made tortellini as an entree and the kids had the Japanese style dumplings and soft shell crab rice paper rolls. They were very happy with the meals and regretted not getting it as a main.
I chose the fish of the day, which was cooked to perfection. Prices reflect the quality.
Staff were lovely, very helpful and attentive. Will be coming back next visit!

We dined there two nights in a row to celebrate two family birthdays. There were seven family members the first night and 18 family and friends the second. We also had several guests who were coeliac, or had other allergies and the restaurant coped magnificently. Seperate menus for Coeliacs and vegans, patiently checking answers to questions with the kitchen and overall providing excellent service. The menu was superb and over two nights I tried a special duck dish and a pork belly dish, both of which demonstrated a kitchen team working especially hard to develop and offer tasty, unique dishes. The wine and other drinks menu was extensive and offered great choices by the bottle or glass. Tasmanian wines accompanied both meals and were perfect accompaniments. This was a restaurant located on the 1st floor of a surf life saving club, but it would not have been out of place in an inner capital city location. Fabulous!

We visited on Thursday, there was one other couple there at the time.
We ordered our meals, the kids had a child’s meal each, I an entree and hubby your special (so nothing out of the ordinary).
We sat there watching other families come and go, the children got their bowl of chips and salmon, but still no adult meals, staff were quiet happy to keep asking if we wanted more drinks, but after some time we politely replied with ‘no but we would like our meals now’ as everyone that ordered after us have already left. No apology , just a half hearted reply of ok.
It got to an unacceptable point & not wanting to waste the afternoon (the kids had finished), we were about leave and the meals came out!!! I said that was lucky we were about to ask for a refund and leave.
Your waitress did not even batter an eye lid, again no apology.
Customer service and acknowledge is very important in the hospitality industry (any business really). You charge top dollar for your meals which people don’t mind paying if the quality of service matches.
We normally send a lot of people your way, but this experience was disappointing.
Also a fine restaurant should not allow active wear Lycra as part of your employees uniform.

Was really looking forward to having dinner here based on the reviews. The location is amazing, with exceptional views over the ocean. The drinks list is expansive and they have a really great selection of local wines. We shared a $100 seafood selection for 2 for entree, which I feel was overpriced for what you got. 6 oysters natural that were not freshly shucked and stuck to their shells when tipped upside down, plus they were spawning so very creamy and strong; I love oysters, so this was pretty devastating. 8 prawns were cooked to perfection, these were the hero dish. 2 small soft shell crab rolls were nice too. The 2 scallop spring rolls were mostly spring roll pastry rapper and not much filling. Almost forgot about the scallop skewers in bacon, they were tiny rubbery scallops with roe on and just tasted like bacon. For mains the pork belly was really good and duck fat potatoes were amazing. The $48 beef and reef was awful, the eye fillet was cooked perfectly MR, served with creamy mash and snow peas. I loved the veg, but the steak was smothered in a seafood bisque sauce that tasted like it was made from boiled old prawn heads and it just tasted like pungent old seafood. Really overpowered the steak and anything else on the plate. We paired dinner with a lovely Dalrymple Pinot, really enjoyed this wine. Then for desert we shared the pot of gold Manhattan cheesecake, we both love brandy snaps, so this inclusion sold it for us. It was just okay, not thin and crunchy... The cheesecake was very sweet and still had large chunks of cream cheese in every bite, which wasn’t great. The waitress asked twice if things were okay, we didn’t eat the oysters, so we mentioned those and the cheesecake lumps. They apologised, but nothing else came of it. A splurge dinner at almost $300, while there were a couple of stand outs, overall it was extremely disappointing.

Had Dinner last night with my husband at suggestion from our accommodation. Beautiful building in a great location and our expectations were high and expecting to pay top dollar for a fantastic meal. Service good while my entree of quail Kiev style was tasty, my husband had scallop spring rolls and said you could only taste the cooking oil. Beef and Reef was ok but I was disappointed in the slow cooked lamb. The meat very tasty but did not look appetising swimming in too much sauce with very over cooked brocollini and a small amount of potato mash. Not sure if I would recommend this for $160 including 2 wines and a beer

We held our annual regional dinner at Mrs Jones and the service, food and atmosphere was perfect. The team was generous with their time leading up to the event, manger, chef and wait staff were all consultative and happy to tailor the timing and food options to our needs. We had quite a few speeches to get through and Mrs Jones ensured the entrée sizes were substantial so that the event ran smoothly and no-one was hungry early on. The quality of the meals was outstanding, we have had so much positive feedback from the event from a broad range of guests - I highly recommend Mrs Jones

Start with ample parking at the door, a view from comfy couches of the beach, excellent service from Jackie and David and it is hard to think of a better pre ferry venue in Devonport.
Our local friends enjoyed scallops and the pork belly. My lamb shoulder was sensational!
Then the fun started with an elaborate Affogatto and expressive Espresso Martini!
A great venue to watch the tide ( and Spirit ) roll in rather than sit in the ferry queues!!

The location is perfect and the views are a highlight. The food was pleasant although the lobster rice paper rolls carried no taste of lobster and the salmon was overcooked. A very enjoyable place to dine with friendly staff, bistro quality food and an appropriate decor but our visit was on a night when the restaurant was extremely busy and perhaps we need a return reservation to appropriately review this restaurant.

Been there twice now and just 4 weeks apart. Believe me when I say they cook the best steaks we have ever had, seriously. My other half is the fussiest steak eater of all time and we explained to the lovely female waitress how he likes it which she told him would be medium and both visits it was perfect as was mine medium well. That is going to be our monthly lunch outing from here on in when our toy poodle is getting groomed. Thoroughly recommend the steak and you could cut it with a butter knife. Nice silver service and lovely linen napkins. ALL CLASS. Would give 10 stars if I could.

We had a lovely late lunch . Ordered a number of dishes to share and the waitress was so accommodating bringing us extra cutlery and plates . All the dishes were good from the oysters with lime sauce , tempura prawn rice paper rolls , scallops and fish of the day . The wine by the glass was also of decent quality . Overall very happy with the meal , service and venue .it made up for a very rainy day trip to Devonport . If there was one small suggestion … the furnishings were a little tired and needs refurbishing .. something to think of in readiness for better post covid times !

This restaurant was recommended by our outstanding Bed and Breakfast hosts (Forth River Cottage- about 12 kms from Devonport).
The restaurant has been operational for a number of years and is situated on the upper level of the Surf Club, overlooking Bass Strait.
We had to book well in advance, a sure sign of how mush this restaurant is respected by locals and travelers alike.
The service is very professional and friendly. Because of Covid we could not sit at the bar pre -dinner , also showing how the concern staff and owners have for clients.
My wife and I both enjoyed perfectly cooked Eye Fillets. My wife chose a very nice Shiraz (the wine list is adequate and varied) whilst i enjoyed some cocktails. The staff even brought a tasting glass of one the ingredients to ensure that this substitute liqueur was acceptable. I have never seen this done before but really appreciated this level of detail and service.
If you are living in Devonport or travelling through the region, this restaurant is a must.

The food lived up to previous reviews. Interesting menu and drinks. Curry duck was sensational along with fish of the day. Service was slow as there were three larges groups so noise level was high. Overall excellent but need to employ more staff to manage large groups

We visited twice a year before while visiting with family and as we had a late departure back to Melbourne on the Spirit we decided to book in for an early dinner. Lucky we did as they were booked out when we arrived. Service was slow compared to our previous visits, and we sat watching the sea for quite a while while waiting for our order to be served and saw the Spirit of Tasmania arriving late and removing pressure on us to finish up and get ready for boarding. We opted for entrees and mains and my ravioli entree was delicious, while my red duck curry was even better and well worth the wait. Coffees to finish were nicely prepared and very drinkable. Would certainly recommend it to friends band have since done so.

Lovely view and nice setting. Waited several minutes before being acknowledged even though not very busy. Ordered seafood bowl and my friend ordered eye fillet. My meal unfortunately was super oily and the seafood was very dry under the unpleasant batter and was inedible. Honestly have not left a bad review for a very, very long time but after my friend complained on my behalf and there basically was no response it's hard not to. My buddy had a great meal but I definately did not. Will never be back and will not recommend
