Very crowded and whilst we reserved a table we ended up in the dark old back room which was hot and stuffy. The service was good but the meals we found were very ordinary. The Tassie scallops were about the size of a pea. I...ordered the Mooloolaba prawns as a main. The prawns themselves were tasty but for nearly $40 there were only 4 prawns on a very ordinary salad and two small special potato wedges.More

This was our first night in Devonport so we hoping that our dinner at Prem’s would match some of the great local produce/meals we had elsewhere in Australia. Located on the corner of Oldaker and Rooke Street, the restaurant appears to be a collection of...different premises. Of concern when we arrived was the ‘restaurant for sale’ sign at the front door. Undeterred we entered, we opted for the outdoor dining area as it was a balmy January night, rather than one of the different disparate indoor areas. The ground itself was sloping down the hill, which meant most of the tables or chairs weren’t that stable. We went with the butterflied Quail (marinated deboned quail on a bed of a bed of spinach grape juice dressing with a fried quail egg) $22, and Salmon four ways (fresh Tasmanian salmon - cold smoked, hot smoked, tartare and house gravlax) $24., for starters. The quail was slightly overcooked but still contained bones. The salmon was fresh, with the tartare the standout but lacked any accompanying dressing or sauces. For mains we picked the BBQ Beef short rib, with ‘mouth watering house BBQ sauce’ and pineapple slaw and wasabi peas - $20, and Seafood linguine- $39. The rib was just one rib, with a separate bone and two small dobs of wasabi. The sauce was probably a bit too sweet. The linguine was nice, the scallops were fresh and perfectly cooked the salmon however was slightly overcooked and a little tough. Like other reviews it was a bit disappointing having room temperature water, would have been just as easy having chilled water. The beer at $10 for a glass was a bit expensive for the amount provided. We didn’t really feel like desert. In summary it felt like they were just going through the motions and had lost their passion for providing great food.More

Quite possibly the worst seafood chowder I have ever had in my life , runny like water two prawns, one scollop, one piece of fish and two muscles. And for a huge price not worth the visit or even going back . And they say...they are a seafood restaurant. 1/10.More

Our group of 8 was greeted enthusiastically by Prem…and we all enjoyed our meals: Arancini, salad, oysters, mussels, prawns and the vegetarian option were all excellent! So good in fact, we’re going back tomorrow.

The seafood was very fresh and tasty, well presented and very generous servings. Nice crusty bread, nice wine list. I recommend the Tasmanian Pinot Grigio. The staff were excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable about all menus. The only thing that let the whole experience down...was the Seafood Chowder. Although the entree serve was generous, it was very bland! I maybe a little harsh but that’s the only fault I could find with the whole experience.More

Our family of 4 rocked up here just in time before the kitchen closed after disembarking from the Spirit of Tasmania in the late evening. We had the seafood platter for 2 and an extra fish and chips from the kids' menu. The meal was...delicious and definitely hit the spot! The platter presented in a 3-storey high-tea style serving tier plus an extra bowl of mussels with toast, were generous and could borderline satisfy 2 adults and 2 hungry young kids. The highlights were the local mussels and scallops cooked in house-special creamy sauce, yum! Fresh prawns in shell made up the crustacean element. Given the generous serving and quality, the menu was well priced and value for money compared to what we would expect to pay for a similar meal on the mainland. Definitely recommend as a seafood primer for your Tassie holiday!More

This place is amazing. Absolutely love coming here. The food is so delicious every-time and the prices are very reasonable for the high quality meals you get. They make the best drinks and will custom make anything you request. There’s so many different places to...sit in this restaurant - they have an outdoor area, indoor bistro vibe, a private area for events and a beautiful cocktail bar. The staff are so lovely and of course Prema always makes you feel special. I will come here again and again, would recommend to anybody!!More

Food waiter off hand, not interested. Drinks waiter lovely, had a Margherita excellent. Salmon good, but over cooked. Scallops cold, small, they did reheat them but still cold, over priced. Since when did Oysters Kilpatrick come in a pre mix bbq sauce, thankful I asked...b4 ordering. Chocolate mousse very nice.More

Great location close to the river and with easy parking surrounding the restaurant. Prem's is lovely in every way. Attentive, friendly, and caring service, a superb menu of perfectly prepared food dishes, and a fantastic drinks list. Love the ambience of the place with an...abundance of plants and timbers providing a unique dining area. Yes, it is a seafood bar and grill and the seafood is excellent, but heaps of other dishes for non-seafood people as well. Love the cocktail list. The service is second to none and you are made to feel very special and very welcome here. Love this place. Highly recommended.More

Visited on a Monday for dinner. The food is great, however between entree and our main meal was an hour wait, far to long. Management asked us how our experience was like. We told them the food was tasty but the service time was unacceptable....Their answer, "Most resturants are closed on a Monday so we are extra busy on a Monday which is good for us." That is not a good enough excuse in my books. I would be reluctant to go again especially as you are paying top dollar for the food and service.More
