We stopped for lunch as we knew Prema was a great chef from his days running the Indian Affair just around the corner.....
I had the seafood linguini accompanied by a Pino Noir, my hubby had the fish and chips accompanied by a cider. Both were delicious. The service was warm and easy going. The decor was relaxed and classy. I would go here regularly if I were a local.

Our family of 4 rocked up here just in time before the kitchen closed after disembarking from the Spirit of Tasmania in the late evening. We had the seafood platter for 2 and an extra fish and chips from the kids' menu. The meal was delicious and definitely hit the spot! The platter presented in a 3-storey high-tea style serving tier plus an extra bowl of mussels with toast, were generous and could borderline satisfy 2 adults and 2 hungry young kids. The highlights were the local mussels and scallops cooked in house-special creamy sauce, yum! Fresh prawns in shell made up the crustacean element. Given the generous serving and quality, the menu was well priced and value for money compared to what we would expect to pay for a similar meal on the mainland. Definitely recommend as a seafood primer for your Tassie holiday!

Dined in this restaurant before departing on the ferry back to Melbourne.
The seafood linguine was delicious with fresh seafood (although it could've had a bit more flavour in the sauce). My wife loved her vegan dish.
The desserts were also delicious.
A bit pricey on many dishes I thought but the meals are generously sized portions.
Atmosphere was pleasant and clean.
The staff were all very friendly as well. Top job.

This was our first night in Devonport so we hoping that our dinner at Prem’s would match some of the great local produce/meals we had elsewhere in Australia.
Located on the corner of Oldaker and Rooke Street, the restaurant appears to be a collection of different premises. Of concern when we arrived was the ‘restaurant for sale’ sign at the front door. Undeterred we entered, we opted for the outdoor dining area as it was a balmy January night, rather than one of the different disparate indoor areas. The ground itself was sloping down the hill, which meant most of the tables or chairs weren’t that stable.
We went with the butterflied Quail (marinated deboned quail on a bed of a bed of spinach grape juice dressing with a fried quail egg) $22, and Salmon four ways (fresh Tasmanian salmon - cold smoked, hot smoked, tartare and house gravlax) $24., for starters. The quail was slightly overcooked but still contained bones. The salmon was fresh, with the tartare the standout but lacked any accompanying dressing or sauces.
For mains we picked the BBQ Beef short rib, with ‘mouth watering house BBQ sauce’ and pineapple slaw and wasabi peas - $20, and Seafood linguine- $39. The rib was just one rib, with a separate bone and two small dobs of wasabi. The sauce was probably a bit too sweet. The linguine was nice, the scallops were fresh and perfectly cooked the salmon however was slightly overcooked and a little tough.
Like other reviews it was a bit disappointing having room temperature water, would have been just as easy having chilled water. The beer at $10 for a glass was a bit expensive for the amount provided.
We didn’t really feel like desert. In summary it felt like they were just going through the motions and had lost their passion for providing great food.

This place is amazing. Absolutely love coming here. The food is so delicious every-time and the prices are very reasonable for the high quality meals you get. They make the best drinks and will custom make anything you request. There’s so many different places to sit in this restaurant - they have an outdoor area, indoor bistro vibe, a private area for events and a beautiful cocktail bar. The staff are so lovely and of course Prema always makes you feel special. I will come here again and again, would recommend to anybody!!

Very crowded and whilst we reserved a table we ended up in the dark old back room which was hot and stuffy. The service was good but the meals we found were very ordinary. The Tassie scallops were about the size of a pea. I ordered the Mooloolaba prawns as a main. The prawns themselves were tasty but for nearly $40 there were only 4 prawns on a very ordinary salad and two small special potato wedges.

Despite rave reviews, my experience at Prem’s seafood bar & grill was a letdown. The seafood platter presented okay but was a disaster - lukewarm, tasteless, and poorly prepared. The oysters Kilpatrick tasted like generic BBQ sauce, and the fish was bland and flavourless. The mussels were tiny, Octopus rubbery, crayfish tasted like water and the kids' spaghetti bolognese was overpowered by a jar of dried herbs. Clearly, flavour was an afterthought in the kitchen.
I've often heard that Tasmania is renowned for its exceptional culinary scene, but after this experience, I'm left wondering if that's just a myth. If this restaurant is representative of the state's best, I'm disappointed. Unless they revamp their menu and focus on flavour, I'd advise others to steer clear.

Thought we’d give the place a second chance, after being disappointed last time… sadly we were just as disappointed this time. Waited at door while owner cleared , but not cleaned a table ( still had parsley on the table) then when he finally got to us, he shoved 2 menus at us and pointed us to our table. We were in the undercover outdoor seating area where they had placed patio heaters between tables to keep patrons warm, but unfortunately this was right near my husband and was actually way too hot, causing irritation to his skin. He asked the waitress if it could be turned down and she repeated the request but did nothing about it! Food came in a timely manner, but varied in heat from boiling sauce to barely warm schnitzel, no dressing on the salad, which desperately needed it as it included sliced cabbage. All this while getting the whiff of cigarette smoke continually coming in from the outside area where patrons congregate on the footpath to have their smokes. Not a pleasant experience.

Tonight my wife and I went back to Prems Seafood Restaurant after a thoroughly enjoyable Seafood Tasting plate for 2. Without a doubt one of the finest examples of fresh Tasmanian seafood, the oysters, scallops, prawns, salmon, octopus, mussels etc were mouth wateringly devine.
On this visit we sampled oysters kilpatrick and pan fried scallops for entree followed by seafood linguine and eye fillet. You can always gauge a great food experience by the amount of diners the place attracts and Prems proves this with the amount of diners in the place.
We spoke to one of the owners during the meal which was also a pleasant wholesome experience. This place does it so well, authentic fresh tasty Tassy produce, well presented and accompanied in addition to a lively ambience with friendly well mannered staff.
We had 2 visits within a month and we were again extremely pleased with our dining experience.
Prems doesn't take bookings so go early as it's understandably popular and very reasonably priced for a seafood restaurant.
Be sure when in Devonport to try this amazing restaurant.
Highly recommended. Prompt service

The seafood was very fresh and tasty, well presented and very generous servings. Nice crusty bread, nice wine list. I recommend the Tasmanian Pinot Grigio. The staff were excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable about all menus. The only thing that let the whole experience down was the Seafood Chowder. Although the entree serve was generous, it was very bland! I maybe a little harsh but that’s the only fault I could find with the whole experience.

My husband and I visited Prem’s on Tuesday for lunch when we was told by staff, we are treating today like it’s a public holiday and not offering the lunch special.
We was ok by this as we always order the seafood platter for 2. But then discovering on the menu that a 10% public holiday surcharge would also apply, I asked the staff was this really correct as today was not a public holiday, they advised yes that’s what their manager had told them today.
I wanted to leave out of disgust but my husband was hungry had to get back to work.
This decision clearly upset numerous other people as when they were told, left immediately!!! Some were regulars that said they won’t be back. They certainly lost a lot more then what they would have made applying the surcharge.
Sadly the quality of the platter matched. Salmon was obviously from the start of Easter and had a tainted taste to it, lacked favour (once you would lick the mussel sauce bowl dry), rotten strawberries. Even they waiter said it wasn’t up to their regular standard, then paying extra then normal, you can understand our disappointment.
We asked the poor staff dealing with everyone walking out, was they getting paid PUBLIC HOLIDAY WAGES today, they were unsure…. We had a feeling they wasn’t.
I hope people visiting our area, don’t think all our businesses operate like that.

Perhaps an off night, but for the prices I expected a lot better, problem 1, they do not keep their table water bottles refrigerated! A party of 11 the general complaint was room temp water, so a bucket of ice was provided. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water this too was room temperature, extremely hot day in Devonport so again had to request ice,
Second problem, garlic bread, a baguette bread roll sliced and so hard I nearly broke a tooth. The garlic butter had a slight taste, and it was not garlic, my thoughts were perhaps the previous nights left over reheated. Not pleasant at all.
A long wait for the main meal, but the food was acceptable, I had fish and chips with a salad on the side, $34 inclusive of the side salad, so not cheap. Others said their food was good.
Would I go back? Perhaps, $54 for a glass of wine, warm water, stale garlic bread, not cheap

My husband and I had lunch here for my birthday. I am so glad this was our choice. Everything was amazing. My husband ordered the fisherman's platter and I had the 1/2 crayfish. We had creme brule for dessert. All of the food was incredible. Their menu is available on-line, which I love. It's always nice to have a good idea about the food before you go for a special occasion. The staff knew it was my birthday and bought it out with a sparkler and sang happy birthday. The whole experience really made my day.

New to Prem's, we both much enjoyed the innovative and superbly cooked and presented meals, all as promised using fresh local produce. One took advantage of the lunch menu - $20 - which included a range of appealing dishes, and my mushroom-stuffed chicken did not disappoint. The other dined on the seafood chowder, packed with mussels, fish and prawns in a lusty broth.
Lovely spacious and quiet dining area with fresh air and movement between tables. We enjoyed our experience, and certainly will be back (I drove up from Longford).

After waiting 20 mins for someone to take a drink order my drink came out in a warm glass. Then we waited a further 30 mins for entree which I will say was tasty however mains were not good at all prawns and steak were both over cooked and $36 for 3 prawns is ridiculous especially when not cooked to perfection. Chips were cold on both plates. So between poor service and ordinary food we won’t be returning
