Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Reliable well run cafe in the middle of nowhere - serving good home cooked grub. Offers indoor, outdoor and seating undercover. Has diesel and petrol fuel pumps (only during opening hours). It’s about a 2hr drive to / from Strahan. Good menu - Hot chips, Wedges, Toasted or Standard Sandwiches made to order, Burgers served with fries (on a soft bun)(Beef, Chicken, Fish or Vegetarian patty), Hot and Cold drinks, Cakes and Slices, Biscuits plus the usual crips, chocolate bars, lollies and ice creams etc. Cafe sells a very small amount of supermarket goods (packet sugar, flour, milk, tomato sauce etc). It’s not a supermarket though. No fruit, vegetables or meats. Sells homemade honey products and a few Knick Knacks and souvenirs too. Open daily 9am to 4.30pm (Winter). Clean toilets. As an alternative Lake St Clair tourist center has a small basic restaurant and bar (5 mins down the road) servicing mainly hikers. Hint - travel with cash also as Eftpos goes down a lot (no fuel, no food). Strahan was down for 2 whole days, closet ATM was at Queenstown (45mins drive) from Strahan, 2hrs from Derwent Bridge.

Stopped here on the way to and from Strahan. A very popular stop with a good cafe menu - we opted for toasted sandwiches and coffee both visits and were really happy with the quality and friendly staff (the toilets were also most welcome). Hard to find anything to complain about here - give it a go!

We stopped in here after we wasted time visiting The Wall. What a great find in the middle of Tasmania. We ordered the cheese burger, it was simple, yet tasty home made beef patties, with cheese and a pickle if you wanted it, we skipped the pickle. The bun was fresh and the burger came with a serve of chips which was just enough. It was nice to be able to sit by the log fire and warm up as it was a cold day outside, with the temp hovering around 5C all day. The best bit was they had toilets, which though old were clean and readily available, not like the Wall attraction we visited at great expense prior to having lunch here.

This cafe makes agood coffe that is nice and hot. They offer decaf as well as soy, almond and lactose free milks in addition to the usual coffee and milk options. There were some nice cake options ($5.50 plus) as well as several good home-made-style biscuits (at about $3 each). The decore is fun, decorated with wombat paraphernalia and, around the wood heater, there is a cute collection of olf coffee grinders. A good place to stop and refresh.

There are few options in this neck of the woods. Ordered coffee which took about 15 min, we were going to order food but the prices were very high. Plus others left food, always off putting. Not very friendly. Shame really as they would not have to try too hard to make this so much better. The toilets there were handy.

After a week in the wilderness on the Overland Track our group headed to the Hungry Wombat Cafe for lunch. The 'Works' burger and fries was a popular choice and was delivered freshly cooked and ready to be devoured, which it was in short time. A nice way to reconnect with the outside world. Great service, thank you.

We stopped here while travelling between Hobart and Strathan - after visiting The Wall. Plenty of parking for large vehicles. Pleasant staff - service was quick. A lot of customers were having lunch but we just bought coffee and cold drinks.

Just finished The Overland Track. Had a celebratory breakfast at The Hungry Wombat. Good old fashioned Aussie brekky combined with a delicious cappuccino coffee was just the thing I needed after eating dehydrated food on the track

We had a quick stop here to grab some drinks and an ice cream. We ended up staying quite a bit longer as there was a report of an accident which closed the road. it was very nice of the staff to let us know. The outside area is pretty and well maintined. I visited for a few minutes with one of the ladies who was quite nice and went out of her way. One of the other ladies was snappy towards my child when he was asking some questions about the cookies. But, overlooking the nasty attitude from the one person, we'd go out of our way to stop here again.

Enjoyed a beautiful toastie and coffee lunch. Definitely a great lunch spot when passing thru. Just before closing, the owners went out of their way to make my experience in Derwent Bridge comfortable. As I couldn't afford dinner at pub, they put a cold plate together for me...magic people. Highly recommend.

Visited Tasmania in September 2019, and whilst motoring to Cradle Mountain, we had a pit stop at this facility. Feeling hungry and wanting a hot coffee, we tried one their famous Roast Beef Rolls, wow!! The coffee was also good. Apparently very cold in June/July with snow appearing at times? Will visit again, when we next venture to Tasmania.

We were unsure if this was open given many places in Tassie - particularly the west - are struggling with lack of staff since covid. It was open and while there were clearly staff who were in training, the simple burger menu (about 8 options, each with ‘add your protein or veg pattie) gave ample choice. The coffee was reasonable, although the tea pot so small it should have just come as a teabag in a mug

We stopped at the Hungry Wombat whilst driing south and needed a break. The food was a very welcome find, really well cooked, quickly delivered and excellent value for money. It is also very popular with the locals. You can also buy fuel here, as well as a selection of consumer essentials. It is easy to find - just stay on the A10 and you go past it!

The drive from Strahan, with a lot of roadworks, meant a late arrival in Queenstown where we visited the museums. The lady at the Galley Museum said if the Wombat is open, the food is good. It was, and so was the service by a very friendly and nice young woman. No toasted sandwiches, but a ham and a chicken sandwich, with fresh bread and with a choice of salads for $8.50 each, were appreciated.
