We booked in advance for a family group of 10 which included two quite small children. As it turned out part of the group got delayed. However the response of staff was spot-on - no problems, we had a glass of wine and then when eventually everyone arrived we had our orders taken. Now this was a busy Saturday lunchtime and yet staff took the time to talk, explaining menu items, suggesting children's items, telling about the history of the building. The menu is imaginative and focusses on Tasmanian local fare. The Tasmanian Tasting Platter was rated superb and comfortably fed three adults. The Pumpkin & Chickpea Falafel Plate and Bank’s Deluxe Panini were also both so flavoursome and tasty. The atmosphere in the conservatory is light and airy and had a great vibe, aided and abetted by a local harp player. The outside eating area was adjacent to a garden with chickens, a big attraction for the children. The prices considering the quality of the food, the setting and service were very reasonable including the wine list. My general test is "Will I be back?" and with the Old Bank or Cygnet Conservatory I'd say in a flash!

We ordered the tasting plate for 2 for lunch. I was tempted to lick the plate after we'd consumed the delicious, fresh local produce. Very good staff, great coffee. I commented to the waitress that the sliced apple was the best I'd ever tasted; she reached over the fence and pulled an apple from the tree and handed it to me.

We stopped in for a coffee and got a lot more than that! The cafe is just beautiful. Sitting under the conservatory roof has a lovely ambience and there are other equally gorgeous areas to sit. We were able to order a pot of brewed soy Chai, the best we’ve had in a long time and the gluten free orange cake was sensational. Friendly efficient service and to top it off, a harpist providing beautiful background music. We wished we’d come for breakfast, the menu looked so enticing. 5 stars!

We travelled from hobart excited to try the old bank cafe in cygnet. With my husband and baby we arrived and service seemed good and we were seated quickly. Menus got dropped off and water. Then that was it, no one came back to take our order so we figured it must of been a order at the counter kind of place. So my husband ordered up at the counter for us. We waited a while for our coffees which went to the wrong table firstly and then made our way to our table with the waitress saying ‘oh we lost the table number’. Then I said we had food on that number so are you able to check with the kitchen if they had our order. Without any follow up about the docket, we waited & waited. Food was not coming out, so I asked one of the waiters how long our food would be. He checked and came back explaining that we were 4 dockets away. Still waiting two tables next to us arrived and ordered from the table with the waiter, which was annoying as we didn’t get any table service at all. Then we waited some more. Meals started to be brought out, however they went to the table that had just ordered. I was mad about that. Then more meals came bypassing our table straight for the other table next to us! I was so amazed that this had happened as they both had ordered after us, finally I asked again and the waiter said they are coming and offered us free drinks or our money back as we had already paid. We refused drinks and thought maybe we would get our money back. We finally got our food but as the lady dropped our meals off she said “sorry it’s been a wait but everyone has been waiting, it’s just been busy”- very rudely. Well if that was the case that would of been fine but it wasn’t- we were waiting the longest and by the time the food came we didn’t even want it as our baby was well and truly ready to get out of that place. We ate our meals quickly which were nice but as we left we didn’t get an apology or a refund as mentioned as we walked out the door. Very rude and bad service. Wouldn’t recommend.

We had lunch here and love the venue with nice high ceilings and pleasant staff. The pork curry was pleasant but a small serve for the price; the burger with the lot was tasty but served with a small pile of store-bought chips. For $25, I want fries!
So lunch was good enough but not great value I am afraid.

Been before and love the people and the venue; also the food previously. Was very disappointed this visit in a slow cooked lamb dish which bore no resemblance to slow cooked lamb. Everything else was terrific so I hope that was a temporary glitch!

The Conservatory cafe was attached to our accommodation (the Cygnet Old Bank B & B) and was in fact where you checked in and had breakfast. We read that the cafe was added to the building in 2005 but closed at some stage after this and was, thankfully, resurrected in 2018. It is a wonderful area.
There were a significant number of dining areas from the main part of the cafe, which was very bright and open, to separate indoor dining areas of different sizes in the former stables, to outside covered and open areas. There was also a number of rows of apples and other fruit growing out in the garden with varieties of apples that we had never heard of before. The garden was also full of fresh flowers which were placed in small vases on the tables.
The breakfast and luncheon menus offered a good choice of dishes. The Reuben sandwich that I had for lunch was very tasty as were the bacon and eggs and smashed avocado dishes for breakfast. Prices were very reasonable also.
Coffee was also very good and there was a delicious array of cakes and pastries on offer every day.
Every member of staff that we met was very friendly, pleasant and helpful.
This was the best cafe that we encountered in Cygnet.

While holidaying in Hobart, we booked lunch at The Conservatory after checking out the reviews on Trip Advisor and were so glad we did.
The restaurant is beautiful and the staff very friendly and professional.
My husband ordered the Garden Quiche which he thoroughly enjoyed, he is not a salad person, but cleaned the plate!
I had the potato dish with sour cream, bacon and avocado, thinking it would be one baked potato, the serving was enormous, 4 perfectly cooked potatoes halved with melted cheese and the topping. Modern take on a traditional dish.
Can highly recommend the Conservatory to anyone who enjoys beautifully cooked and presented food.

We chose this spot on a recommendation however, we were disappointed. People who arrived after us were served first, when our lunches only needed to be heated. My husband’s pie and my quiche both had a mass of rocket with a couple of yellowing baby spinach leaves, topped with marigold petals. We don’t consider rocket a salad, especially for $6 or $7 extra.

On a bit of drive around Huon Valley and coast we stopped in at Cygnet and happened to park opposite the Cygnet Old Bank and with luck got a spot for lunch in the Conservatory cafe. Eggs Benedict of her and Nepalese curry for me. The curry was excellent! Friendly service, nice decor and setting, and very popular with the locals. It was a Monday and filled up for lunch.

As a tourist we had heard about the cygnet conservatory and wanted to try the food. We came on a Tuesday for lunch arriving just after 2.00pm. The opening hours were advertised as 8-4. Upon arrival no one wanted to talk to us or acknowledge our presence. We asked were we could sit and was promptly told that if we were after lunch the kitchen was already closed!! Can’t say what the food is like but if you want to try it better get in early!! We went to Lovett Cafe a bit further down the road and the staff and food were both excellent!! My advice would be to go there instead!

Extremely offended that you write this comment on several of my social media pages Colin with not even the continuity of information!! In defence you arrived after 2.30 when our kitchen section had closed and our cafe remains open for those for afternoon treats. This happens in many cafes and looking for lunch after 2.30 is quite late and we still try to have lighter options which you were offered by staff, house tarts, quiche, salads etc. You wanted more of a heavier meal and so suggestions were given to help cater for this for you.
Our Buisness has been operational now for near 2 years after this building had been closed for many years. It offers something special for locals and visitors and has a great reputation as you yourself had heard about! . It has the cafe, B&B accommodation, clothing and gift store, restored heritage orchard and artist in residence. We operate in the town when many of the others are closed. Last week we had the Folk Festival that brings over 16, 000 extra people and following that we had the Ballawinne Festival that we supported and many enjoyed what we offer.
If you look at Facebook etc it only gives you an opening and closing time! It will not let you write additional information. So I have put it in the blog!
My team and I work extremely hard to bring something special to Cygnet and to give our visitors a positive experience. Hopefully you may try again for lunch and perhaps make a booking to insure a table and your special lunch that you intended.

We stopped by for coffee and cake, well, a cream bun, actually. The bun took me straight back to my childhood. This was the first cream bun I'd had in about 50 years and it tasted exactly as I remembered. The coffee was excellent and the garden setting is gorgeous. The place was heaving on a Sunday morning and they were coping very well. Luckily, it was apple season and the excellent orchard out back, with it's printed guide to the many apple varieties was fascinating.

Stopped for lunch at this cafe. it was very well presented with an extensive and interesting menu. The star of the show was the Reuben sandwich which was filled with chunks home cooked corned beef and served with sweet potato crisps and dressed salad greens. Absolutely spectacular!!!

Called in for lunch and really glad we did. Hubby and I had had the pumpkin gnocchi, recommended by the lovely lady serving us, and it was delicious. Had such a good flavour. We then enjoyed a slice of cake and coffee for dessert, and the apple and almond and the chocolate banana cakes were both very enjoyable. Staff were friendly and attentive.

An underwhelming stop at the Cygnet old bank cafe.
House cooked beans tasted like tinned white beans with pureed tinned tomato. Not pleasant and uneaten.
Coffee was luke warm with extra extra froth. Mostly froth
House baked bread was delicious.
Wait staff were attentive and friendly but no follow up to what was clearly an untouched dish
