Fresh local food with a view - great flavours and service with some treats for the kids! We shared the yummy local grilled fish and chips and a chicken sandwich - so good!
We were doing the Seahorse World Tour, so was looking for a place for lunch before we went. My father said he had been to the River Cafe before and he was not impressed. I checked Trip Advisor and it was rated 4/5 and the...Facebook page had a seafood platter photo which looked epic . But unfortunately the old man was right for once lol ! So disappointed . First we booked a table for 4 & our table wasn’t even reserved , so I dunno if it was lucky we rocked up thirty minutes early , if we would have even had a table allocated. Secondly our meals took an hour to come out , if it was going to be that long the waiter or waitress should come over and communicate with the customers to advise them . Thirdly the kids meal, nuggets were like rubber and came out with a spicy salt on the chips, what kids eat spice lol. Fourthly the steaks in the two steak sandwiches were tuff as rubber . Fifthly my Seafood platter was putrid . Must be all frozen packet stuff and not fresh. All of it was overcooked, apart from the scallops, the fish looked and tasted like it had been microwaved ( photo attached ). Absolute waste of money. My mother paid as I was going to ask for a discount. If you go through my hundreds of reviews, there’s only a couple where the food was that bad , I actually told the cafe or restaurant. But the young one started playing up and i was over it and went. One good thing the iced coffees were excellent.More
My mistake, I don't like smoked salmon, no aioli & the flake was terrible. Come on, for all the local fish 🐟 and you serve flake? Salad was bitter. Take away the salmon and the fish and the salad and the rest was nice. Oops,...I forgot it was seafood. Service was nice and friendly and didn't have to wait long. Location great.More
Had lunch here on the way to the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre. Nice cafe with great water view. Excellent food and good service. Gluten free options. Reasonable prices.
This is not an up market style cafe. It is basic and we found the coffee very bitter. However, there is little to choose from at Beauty Point.
This is a great little cafe, with a very friendly team. ( a bit cheeky too 😜). We only stopped for coffee while we waited for our Seahorse tour. Coffee with a view. That’s a tick from me.
Excellent food and great service had the veggie stack which was very good it’s hard to find good food locally which is gluten free and dairy free this place was perfect
Staff were rude and clearly weren’t interested in serving customers or in hospitality in general. Definitely need to wake up and consider what it is they are trying to offer. Thoroughly disappointing- Tasmania can do a lot better than this.
My husband and I both had Panko Crumbed Tassie Scallops in Panko Crumbs with Spiced fries, House Salad and Tartare Sauce - $34. We were served 8 small overcooked scallops, very ordinary chips and a tiny salad consisting of mainly leaves. So disappointed. On the...upside, the waitresses were friendly.More
Coffee Just called in to this cafe for a takeaway coffee. Ordered a skim latte and a flat white. First thing I noticed was the brand of coffee ‘vittoria’ normally I would walk past a cafe that sold this brand of coffee, but gave it...a chance through coffee desperation. Took one sip of this coffee, my husband sipping his at the same time… straight out onto the grass they went… the worst coffee we have tasted ! My husband not normally fussy, me very fussy. Very disappointing indeed.More
My wife and I were on a driving tour of the Tamar Valley and we decided to stop at the River Cafe where we had lunch. We managed to secure a table outside - very welcome on an unseasonably warm day. We elected to have...milk shakes to drink - an unwise decision as they were some of the thinnest milkshakes we have ever had - no effort was required to suck the liquid through the straw. The food was good enough - my wife had a pumpkin and sweet potato soup served with toasted sourdough. I had a prawn and avocado salad - flavoursome but rather too much chilli oil made the salad rather soggy. Service was patchy - I had to go to the counter to ask for food even though i was told that we would have a server come to take our order. The staff didn’t seem particularly organised.More
Great lunch venue at Beauty Point. Opened on Sunday. Food was excellent!!! I enjoyed the prawn and avocado salad. While the steak sandwich seems very popular. Add sweet potato fries😃 Good bathroom facilities and many tables with views of the water. Indoor and outdoor dining.
Stumbled across this most wonderful place at lunch time today. I had chicken fillet in a bun. Partner had classic steak bun.. The food was so delicious. The staff were faultless. Coffee was heaven sent. The chicken came in a roll with bacon and slaw....So many chips I could not eat them all. Partner said his was fantastic. The view was superb. The only drawback was that we could not stay longer.More
We had lunch here and chose it because of the reviews on Tripadvisor. We were therefore really surprised at how poor the service was and at the quality of the food which was very ordinary and our fish overcooked. When we asked about the fish...of the day, we were told Tasmanian King, and when we asked what type of fish that was the reply was 'dunno'! When we told them after our meal that the tartare sauce tasted off the waiter said, 'oh well I don't like tartare myself'. The view is lovely but that is all we can really recommend.More
