Based on a friend's recommendation, our party of 14 comprising family members from Melbourne, Hobart and Launceston, and including several children, enjoyed lunch at this restaurant on 8 February, 2021. It was fortunate we had made a reservation for lunch earlier in the day as while we were there, it appeared that all tables both inside and out were subsequently occupied. Our orders were diversified from light lunches, just coffees, sweets to full meals with alcohol being available. All our group were very satisfied with food quality, speed of service, staff friendliness and pricing. The option of eating inside or out was available and the covered outdoor seating overlooking the Tamar would be hard to beat, particularly on a hot day as was the case during our visit. Certainly a place we would visit for a meal when next in that area, despite its apparent early afternoon closing time.

Short easy walk from the Seahorse Farm, although there is also parking right outside. Three of us shared two plates of fish and chips: light crispy batter, fresh fish. Our non-seafood eater was happy with her soup! There were also several vegetarian options on the menu, and cakes for dessert (sampled by my teenagers). Wines by the glass, decent coffee, friendly staff and great views over the water.

My wife and I had been wanting to dine at The River Cafe for quite some time due to the strong advertising campaign that we saw on television. With expectations high, we finally found ourselves specifically in Beaty Point for a short stay. Up front, Beauty Point has very limited dining options, save for a fish and chip shop (which seemed popular) and a hotel that offers limited dining hours, if at all - as we found out. Now, back to The River Cafe ... the plusses: central location, very good service and an excellent seafood platter. Just enough to fill you and very good value for two people when you take the large option. The only real downside was the noise inside the cafe which is due to the layout and the poor acoustics. It became very noisy from just serving one or two customers. Distracting more than anything else, so perhaps an outside dining experience (which is offered) may have been a better choice. The view of the Tamar River at low tide is always a bit of a disappointment given this Cafe is right at the water's edge, but again, only a minor point. All in all, a great meal and very good value. Recommended.

The battered fish was lovely. The crisp grilled salmon was perfect though for the price a more substantial salad was expected. We ordered two coffees, a flat white and an espresso. The flat white was really disappointing so we asked if it could be replaced, explaining that it was just too weak. There was no crema and no real coffee taste. When the bill came, we were charged for the flat white which we explained had not been drunk and it he reply we got was "I still had to make it". Normally we would leave a tip but given the mingy attitude it left a bad taste. Restaurants should take it on the chin and their pocket when they fall short of delivering.

My wife and I seen a lot of ads about "the best view on the tamar".we went for sunday lunch.t he place was very clean and the staff polite and friendly.
I chose the seafood platter {$39}which consisted of 2 oysters,3scallops,3 small pieces of fish,2pieces of smoked salmon and plenty of chips so that you don`t leave hungry. My wife had the squid .neither of the dishes had any flavour ,except for the chips. for a cafe it was overpriced.

We have been going to The River Cafe at Beauty Point for the last six years, mainly for the seafood. The food and service both have been excellent, so much so that we recommended it to our friends and have also taken our overseas visitors there. Everyone complemented the experience.
We had not been to the cafe for a year, due to Covid. We visited the cafe recently and the first thing we noticed was that the staff were slightly dismissive when we asked for extra hot coffee and crispy chips, which has never been a problem with other cafes we go to.
Thought no more of it at the time but when the food arrived we found the chips soggy and the battered fish was very oily and tasted as if the oil had not been changed in a while. When our plates were collected they did ask about the food to which we made comment, but they brushed this aside by saying we must be too full and walked off. It was edible but of a low standard which is found in cheap low class cafes. I saw the cafe was advertised for sale November 2020. Not sure if this is why the standard has fallen. We will not be going back.

We have been wanting to go here for some time, but needed to make the trip from Hobart.
Firstly, parking was a problem, with insufficient spots mid-week.
We ordered two main meals, which took too long to come. The fish was a little undercooked, while the chicken was over cooked until it was dry and inedible. I’ve rarely come across a cafe who could muck up basic fried chicken, but they succeeded.
The service felt like we were a nuisance, and we were rushed to a table and forgotten for a while.
I know there are not a lot of choices for food up here, but I would recommend trying somewhere else.

My husband and I both had Panko Crumbed Tassie Scallops in Panko Crumbs with Spiced fries, House Salad and Tartare Sauce - $34.
We were served 8 small overcooked scallops, very ordinary chips and a tiny salad consisting of mainly leaves. So disappointed. On the upside, the waitresses were friendly.

We were doing the Seahorse World Tour, so was looking for a place for lunch before we went.
My father said he had been to the River Cafe before and he was not impressed.
I checked Trip Advisor and it was rated 4/5 and the Facebook page had a seafood platter photo which looked epic .
But unfortunately the old man was right for once lol !
So disappointed .
First we booked a table for 4 & our table wasn’t even reserved , so I dunno if it was lucky we rocked up thirty minutes early , if we would have even had a table allocated.
Secondly our meals took an hour to come out , if it was going to be that long the waiter or waitress should come over and communicate with the customers to advise them .
Thirdly the kids meal, nuggets were like rubber and came out with a spicy salt on the chips, what kids eat spice lol.
Fourthly the steaks in the two steak sandwiches were tuff as rubber .
Fifthly my Seafood platter was putrid . Must be all frozen packet stuff and not fresh.
All of it was overcooked, apart from the scallops, the fish looked and tasted like it had been microwaved ( photo attached ).
Absolute waste of money. My mother paid as I was going to ask for a discount.
If you go through my hundreds of reviews, there’s only a couple where the food was that bad , I actually told the cafe or restaurant. But the young one started playing up and i was over it and went.
One good thing the iced coffees were excellent.

Another great experience this time having their Spanish Bake - chilli spiked baked beans, pepperoni, red onions, egg & parmesan on sour dough toast. Coffee always good and a nice hot chocolate w/ mint too. Also fully recommend the 3-egg w/ mushrooms and ham and their staple eggs on toast (w/ bacon, chipolatas and mushrooms). Thanks again people!

Spectacular vistas from all the tables as you look across the Tamar from the western arm. The fish is so fresh it seems to have leapt from the river on the side of the restaurant onto your plate. Servings are moderate but adequate for lunch. The menu properly accentuates the local fish cuisine so don’t bother with other choices. The wine selection is modest and had exhausted our preferred grape. Just chill and soak up the atmosphere.

Dropped in for breakfast, place was not very full so expected fast service! Wrong!
Ordered coffees, and meals, over 10 minutes then coffee arrived. Ordered small and med , got two small ones.
Waited another 35 minutes, our breakfasts arrived, my full breakfast not as per menu, no chipolatas or mushrooms, but a hash brown instead. Eggs poached not fried.
Other meal ok, but just.
Four front of house staff trying to look busy but not doing much, chef in kitchen being ignored when bell rung to indicate meals were ready.
Disappointing, even allowing for holiday break.

Not much choice in the area but we have eaten at the cafe' twice now. It has a wonderful view and the food is good although a bit expensive for cafe lunch fare. Downside is that the cafe has a pervasive fried chips odour so sit outside if weather and seating allows. Cakes were a bit of a disappointment, they looked much better than in fact they tasted. Soup was excellent.

Beautiful spot! Stunning views. Amazing service. Blankets provided outside to keep warm. They made the most scrumptious light chicken vegetable soup with crunchy sourdough, just yummy and exactly what we were after. Lots of little touches didn't go amiss. Thankyou!
