We had read various reviews of 29 and visited at friends' suggestion. Location, parking and ambience are great. The welcome and table service were likewise. The dumplings had a good price point, had fresh ingredients and were tasty. Likewise with the range of condiments. Our...only suggestion is to add a fried dumpling option. We write as people who ate many a fine dumpling during 12 years in Singapore and thereabouts..More

Everything in Rylstone on a Tuesday appeared to mostly closed, except for 29nine99 which was bustling with customers eating delicious dumplings. Located in one of the towns historic buildings , the staff are dressed in colourful happy pants and tables are scattered around the building...including the front verandah and the sunny court yard . There is a range of dumplings including chicken, vegetable, duck, prawn and crab . The menu is set according to the number of dumplings you choose, but you can specify if you want only fish or meat etc . We chose the eight dumpling option for lunch which was plentiful. The dumplings were plump, fresh and delicious. The crab and scallop dumplings were excellent . Part of the set menu includes a savoury or custard steam bun for dessert and Chinese tea. The admin in this restaurant is a bit haphazard, I had made a booking several weeks earlier and there was no record of it, this was the scenario for other diners as well, although to their credit they managed to accommodate everyone despite their poor booking system. There are no card facilities, cash is required, we were given the option to directly debit into a bank account when settling the bill which was great as there didn’t appear to be a bank close by.More

We discovered this by accident after a referral from a nearby winery. We love Yum Cha and have eaten it in many countries over 30+ years. Immediately we were met with an odd format...you can choose how many dumplings you want, but not pick from...the menu. You can raise allergies or food dislikes. The Chef picks your dumplings from there. As you can expect, it's not a great experience because I'd rather pick from the menu. The only choice you get is to pick either a savoury or dessert finisher and your choice of tea. At the end when our dishes were delivered, they had gotten our final dumpling choices wrong. They acknowledge one error but when faced with the error relating to my dish, the waitress confronted me with her tab showing that she had written down the wrong dish. Not sure how that helps when I didn't order what she wrote down. To be fair, they did replace the erroneous dishes at no cost. But it meant we had to wait 10-15 mins longer in a place we were already uncomfortable in. The wait-staff don't understand personal space and stick their face in yours to ask if you're enjoying the food. Some of the dishes were pretty good, some we didn't like at all (but again, to be fair, we wouldn't have ordered them in the first place). Oh, it's also cash only. Welcome to 2022 where people don't like to handle cash.More

We popped in for lunch and while it was a lovely setting the service was rushed and food expensive . I was underwhelmed by the majority of the dumplings which seemed to have large amount of filler and very little of the ingredient named eg...duck.... taste was hard to pick up. Sticky rice was nice! Perhaps I have been spoilt by other providersMore

We enjoyed everything about our experience at 29nine99! The dumplings were beautiful - fresh and handmade with delicious fillings. They're served as part of set menu with tea and dessert (the sticky rice is excellent!), but the restaurant was very happy to accommodate allergies and...dietary requirements. The restaurant is set in a lovely historic building with a sunlit courtyard, which was perfect on an autumn afternoon. The restaurant was very busy but the food was prompt and the service friendly. Thank you!More

Having booked over a month ago, We arrived to chaos. We waited at the counter and was told by 4 different staff, just a moment we will be with you. It was a full house and panic had set in. Final a girl asked us,...can I help you. Well yes we have a booking please. They had our booking but the only table on offer was in the blazing sun on the veranda. Asked how long it might be for another table to become available, We was told that’s the only table we have for you and I don’t have any idea when a another table will be free. The girl then said, we are so busy, She ( I’d imagine the only person in the kitchen) has orders backed up for up to an hour.) Well it became clear They have over booked and we out of control as well as had lost all memory of customer service. Advise, get your front of house and booking system working. You are remote and off the beaten track and girls like that speaking to your potential customers will only damage your reputation and brand. One out of ten for service. Ten out of ten for rudeness and poor customer service. We won’t be back and will be reviewing accordingly on other sites we subscribe to. We came out this way to support the region however this was far from the county charm we were expecting. Good luck, you will need it.More

Recomended by our hosts in Mudgee we booked (an absolute must) for a late lunch 29 Nine 99. Very pleased we did. They serve dumplings only but there is a wide variety , all of which were scrumptious. Extremely busy so book , dont just...drop in. A wide variety of Chinese teas are also served. The dumplings are served according to plate size. So you order 10, 15 , 20 etc and the chef will choose and serve. Wonderful decor and attentive old fashions country service. Will visit again.More

Have dined here twice in the last few weeks and the service and food each time was excellent. Very quickly seated after Covid check in, water to table and orders taken soon after. The food was fast to arrive and all was YUM!

I would make a booking and ask at that time. This is a most hospitable restaurant and i feel sure that they will be accommodating. No harm in asking.
