Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have been to the Royal a few times in the past, and would have rated it 4 or 5 stars. This review is about a visit for a Christmas Lunch that I attended with other members of a local club (over 30 people). Perhaps...they had trouble cooking for so many at once, or perhaps it has just deteriorated since I last visited, or perhaps a bit of each. For $40 per person we were promised a menu of roast lamb, roasted vegetables, greens and corn with sticky date or chocolate pudding with ice cream for dessert. We waited about an hour for the main course. The lamb was ok and came with roast potato and carrot both of which were quite hard (they were edible, but I would class them as undercooked). It was accompanied by peas (no corn in sight anywhere). There was gravy that was pretty tasteless (I'm probably spoilt by my wife's gravy which she cooks with the meat juices, but I suspect that what we were served at the Royal came straight out of a packet). The servings were less than generous. I scored the sticky date pudding. There was nothing sticky about it as it consisted of a square of cake with a dob of sauce on top (there was not a lot of sauce, and it was not sticky or runny enough to soak into the cake at all, which is what I would have expected for sticky date). It was accompanied by a bit of ice cream, but not enough to make eating the dryish cake pleasant. Overall it was a very disappointing meal and I won't be heading back to the Royal anytime soon.More

Beautiful little country pub. Relaxing atmosphere and good music. The food was very tasty and great size. The snitzel was one of the yummiest I have had in a while and the lamb shanks were tasty and soft.

Ate here two nights, really good meals. Good portions, vegies great, highly recommend! Chicken Parmi is the best, takes up your whole plate. Service was fast even with a big group.

Popped in for a quick drink while waiting to check in to our accommodation. On an icy cold day there were 2 open fires going which was lovely. Gemma the bar person was friendly and happy to answer our questions about Oberon. The hotel itself...had a great ambience, with great comfy furniture.More

Stopped off in Oberon for the day and decided on pub lunch. Big mistake. Our order was rather simple An Entree of Cheesy Bacon Chips, to be brought out before the mains A main Sirloin Steak cooked medium with Chips, Salad and Pepper Gravy A...main Chicken Parmigiana with Mash, Vegetables and Mushroom Gravy Instead our meals and entree were brought out all at once, the cheesy bacon chips were cold suggesting they’d been left on the counter while the mains cooked The Steak being $34 you’d expect quality but the exterior was burnt black and the meat was full of gristle. The chips were fine but I didn’t receive any salad whatsoever despite it being ordered. Finally my pepper sauce was nowhere to be seen as my meal was mistakenly served with my partners mushroom gravy, her meal didn’t get any despite paying for 2 sauces. The Parmigiana was enormous and lacked the aforementioned mushroom sauce. While everything was present the portion size was huge. While some people may find this a positive there was simply too much food for one person to eat, this may end up being quite wasteful, especially if entrees are ordered too. Both the Kitchen and Bar staff were uninterested and unfriendly, being served was more of a chore than a courteous experience. Our drinks were served without ice despite being asked. I don’t condone airing grievances with staff so I’ll simply vote with my wallet by never returning there again. Visit this establishment if you want poorly cooked food, half finished drinks and an attitude when being served.More

We went to this place as we looked at the menu online and there were a couple of gluten free options. When we got there they told us that they had run out of most things. A steak was our only option. All of the...items on their special board were unavailable. Good news is that we then decided to go to the local pizza place which was sensational!More

We were visiting Oberon and needed to get dinner, it was recommended to try the Royal. We ate dinner on two of the three meals here. The meals are good and large. Service good. We came back on Saturday night for dinner and was disappointed...to find the bistro was closed.More

My son and I were staying at the Royal Hotel and decided to eat there for dinner. We ordered and were told (due to how busy it was) there would be a 45 min wait. Well, the entre was actually served pretty quick, and the...mains came out as described. The only thing I might say is that the salads didn't have any dressing, and none was offered/available. Otherwise a filling and tasty feed.More

Because we had a group of 10, we rang in advance and booked a table for 10 Saturday night, but this was written in the book for Sunday night. The staff were so very helpful in accommodating our group for dinner, without any delays. After...this, a great night out was had by all. Service and meals were great. Thank you Royal Hotel Oberon.More

Stopped by for pub lunch. Placed order - no more roast of the day - then waited about an hour for lunch. Meal arrived at 2:30pm. Mashed potatoes were lumpy, sadly, not palatable.

Well here we are still waiting for our meal - almost 2 hours after ordering!!! Don't come here - the staff couldn't care less. No service whatsoever!! We would have walked out except for the fact that the meat has been paid for.

We chose The Royal for our evening meal during a brief visit to Oberon. The Hotel offers a range of pub meals at reasonable prices. We had chicken parmigiana with salad and chips. The chicken portion was quite large but the chips were some of...the best I've tasted in a pub meal. We didn't have too long to wait and the meal was served to us piping hot. This was a pleasant and friendly experience and the Hotel was able to convert one of our brand new "Dine and Discover NSW" vouchers to partly cover the meal cost.More
