This was our second dinner trip to Cinnabar Kitchen although there have been a couple of years in between the two visits thanks mainly to the pandemic. The standard of food and service remains impeccably high and we remain impressed by this venue that would easily put many high end restaurants in metropolitan Sydney in the shade. The small number of staff are attentive and the courses are delivered in well timed intervals. There is a minimum food charge but that's not an unusual practice in restaurants and the focus of the dining experience is a shared plate approach.
The best way to design a meal is to choose a couple of smaller share plates and a couple of larger share plates with perhaps one or embellishment side dishes (this recommended by the staff). We chose as the smaller shared dishes the poached spinach ricotta dumplings and tempura tiger prawns. The larger shares plates were braised beef cheeks with star anise, cinnamon and zanzibar coconut lime fish curry. It was all devine.
Cinnabar is not cheap but nor is it as expensive as other venues that are markedly less proficient and innovative with their cuisine. Recommended.

Dined here on my 80th birthday. Mary Jane, the co-owner, greeted me and offered her best wishes. Superb service from the front-of-house staff. The meal was memorable. Corrine, the chef, prepared from scratch a tasty hot fudge sauce for my ice cream sundae. Could not ask for more. This is without question the best restaurant in the Blue Mountains.

Truely, one of the best dining experiences we have encountered in travelling around regional Australia, if not in Sydney! The welcome to the restaurant was sincere and warm, and the expert assistance offered by the restauranteur in working through the menu options of shared plates was simply outstanding. The food was sensational in both quality, taste and quantity. Highly recommended!

Probably the most expensive restaurant in the Blue Mountains, bar Lot 101 in Megalong Valley, so expectations were high. Very different style of dining, with strict arrival time allocated. Overall package of menu and wine was well done. Food was very nice and well presented, and we left clean empty plates, but I couldn't shake the feeling I had to eat this because of the cost. I wanted to rate this restaurant as "Good" but had to choose between Average and Very Good and I just think it's "Good".

We enjoyed such an incredible meal at Cinnabar. The food and service was outstanding throughout. The staff are attentive, informative, and clearly so enthused about the menu, giving great tips and information throughout. We shared everything starting with the delicious tempura prawns (the sauce was to die for!), then the special (crispy duck) and the Ethiopian chicken. Both of which were soooo tasty! For sides we had the special roasted carrots and potatoes. Again both delightful and paired brilliantly. We then had two desserts - the dark chocolate delice and the apple and date crumble. Wow the crumble was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had! Absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend to anyone and can’t wait to return!

From the moment we were greeted upon entering the restaurant we had the impression that we were going to be well cared for. The menu was patiently and enthusiastically explained by knowledgable staff and our need for a gluten and dairy free dessert was anticipated and met. All the dishes we chose, with guidance, were delicious and resulted in a birthday celebration that we will long remember.

Just, wow. Not only was the wine list impressive, the food was absolutely insanely good. Every dish hit the spot and despite the zero expectations going into it every dish was well thought out and, as much as I hate the word, transformative. The dishes may sound familiar but as you continue reading down the menu they are creative and unique, with the beef cheeks perfectly cooked, and the scallop tartare being the absolute star from the use of the chlorophyll to the mix of asian greens.
It is nothing I ever imagined but every thing was so well thought out with the themes from different countries tied with excellent service and the innovative way of sharing dishes.
The restaurant is nice and close to Blackheath station which is easy for people staying in the Blue Mountains/Katoomba area for a nice night out and they were so kind to even let us takeaway the desert!
A must try in the Blue Mountain area!

What a find! North African & Mediterranean inspired dishes. Mary-Jane gave me a number of options to choose from for a solo diner. The Beef cheeks did not disappoint and were served with in season carrots braised with caraway. Ultimate comfort food. A recommended shiraz complemented the food perfectly
Solo diners are often overlooked. I was in Blackheath on a family bereavement and appreciated the care.

I was invited to a group dinner of work colleagues, and rang ahead to check dietary options, being Vegan. Corinne, the chef, called me back to pitch some thoughtful over and above options.
I felt every bit as welcome as my colleagues, and my options were identified at each stage. The encrusted tofu, the beets and slow cooked pumpkin additions were a triumph.
The table was equally impressed, and drink options were extensive given the size, with expert service by co owner Mary Jane, and our other waitstaff, perfectly professional in handling a bigger group.
Five vegan hugs from me!

We (2 couples) enjoyed our first visit to Cinnabar and I recommend it, especially if you need a gluten-free diet, since there are lots of GF options.
The main restaurant is small, but not overcrowded and the service was attentive.
The share-plates were all unusual and very tasty. We had 4 dishes, 2 accompaniments and 2 sweets which just satisfied the ‘min $58 per head on food’ rule.

You can believe all the 5 star reviews for this wonderful restaurant - it really is something special. We dined here on a Saturday night whilst staying in Blackheath for the weekend and found ourselves having one of the best dining experiences in many years. The menu is bold and imaginative, the wait staff are friendly, efficient and very well informed and best of all - the skill in the kitchen is obvious with every mouthful. We loved every course, with the ricotta and spinach dumplings being the favourite. Bookings are essential and I would suggest booking at least a week or two in advance to make sure you secure a table. Well done to all at Cinnabar - we will be back!

Dined here with a group of 6 which enabled us to order a wide range of dishes from the fairly extensive menu. While Most of the dishes are fairly small in size, ( apart from the beef cheeks where we ordered 2 serves) they were sufficient for each of us to have a modest taste and enjoy cooking from all parts of the globe
Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and suggested we pare back our order which ended up as 6 tasting dishes, a side of vegetables and a house baked delicious bread roll. This was enough to satisfy everyone's hunger and leave room for a sample of some of their delicious deserts
They do offer a fixed degustation type meal for around $75pp in the new upstairs private dining room although we opted for the main dining room and individual choices which worked out at $65pp excluding drinks.
The most memorable dishes were slow cooked beef cheeks, Carabean prawn hotpot, Eggplant and Hungarian chicken
Looking forward to returning to this gem

Subtle and flavoursome food with lovely service. Walked off the street to this delightful intimate restaurant. The dumplings with gondola silk cheese sauce, delicious scallops, a delicate curry flavoured with lime, coconut, ginger and decorated with fresh herbs.

We spent a week in the Blue Mountains and dinner at Cinnabar was an absolute highlight. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about constructing a great meal from the highly appealing array of dishes on the menu. This was one of the best meals I’ve eaten a very long time. Cinnabar isn’t cheap, but it is very good value for the quality of the overall experience. Very highly recommended!

Minimum $58 per person food charge regardless of what’s ordered is a new low in hospitality. It meant we ended paying $50 for 6 prawns. The serving sizes left us considering buying a kebab next door afterwards. Staff were pleasant. Nice drinks
