It may not look like an excellent restaurant from the outside, but the food was superb and the service was quick and efficient, especially as it was in the run up to Christmas.

Very comfortable for dog walkers in wellies. Fantastic roast dinners and huge portions. Could have been tiny bit warmer for elderly parents. Lovely, friendly staff. Will def visit again

When on a long road trip in parts unknown, stumbling across places like this raise spirits and restore faith in the great British pub. Warm welcome, good service (at busy time), outstanding food (£5 menu awesome) and super beer. Nothing to fault. I'd travel to Alfred's Wessex again just to eat and drink here again.

Locals pub, working dog friendly, summer grab a seat on the outside roof terrace by the canal, great pub food and views, walk up Burrow Mount to bring on an appetite or have a pint while the rest of your group does the walk..

We called in for a drink (and free mince pies) on Christmas Day after a wander in the sunshine on the Somerset Levels. A warm friendly welcome and a roaring log fire. Unfussy and down to earth atmosphere.

Food was your basic food, cuisine style cooked and presented to a high standard. Served looking almost like you couldn't eat it. (Ruin the display) Hope that makes sense? The burger was huge, with homemade fries and coleslaw. Sausages and mash was lovely. The fish was humongous. All the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The younger waiter/waitress were polite... 4 of us and a high chair for lunch. Picked this place as it was midway between where we live. Being totally honest I was a bit disappointed based on the reviews I'd read but at least it didn't break the bank. The beer on tap was a good range and the pale ale a nice brew. Veggies were tasty... The King Alf's is an all round great pub - lovely location, nice inside, friendly staff, good cider and beer on tap, and a great menu! Fully recommend the Sunday roasts - for I think £2 or £3 extra you can get two types of meat. It's a big meal but worth it if you're hungry. There is plenty of... More

Firstly, a declaration: ate here some time ago, and previous week-end ate at a 2 star Michelin restaurant, L'Enclume. What does that mean? Owners have changed but Sunday lunch still as great as before. 2 star tasting menu of small (mini) portions incredible but an unpretentious Sunday blowout can equal it (if you know what I mean and both get...
