Mad dash into the doorway during Storm Doris, a minute or two wait for a table was of little consequence when we got seated. First class service from two lovely ladies who looked worked to death. Being a frugal Yorkie,we opted for afternoon tea which was superb value and the Northumberland smoked cheese was yummy.

Visited with parents one miserable Saturday afternoon. Weather was atrocious but as soon as we stepped inside this hidden gem, we immediately cheered up! Freshly baked scones and superb soup. Love the old fashioned setting downstairs in the cellar whilst upstairs, there's a lovely delicatessen. Service excellent.

Easy to find in central alnwick, this cosy lower ground restaurant always serves fresh, tasty food. We come here for lunch or coffee when travelling on the A1. Today delicious sandwiches served with salad and crisps, cheese scones and freshly made teas and coffees. The cherry Bakewell tart was fabulous! Steep steps down through the great delicatessens upstairs, so not... More

Far from your standard cake served here. I delighted in the zucchini and lime. Coffee was also excellent and the young lady who served us was lovely. Upstairs there was a fabulous deli. Not to be missed.

This old fashioned little tearooms is delightful. We use the table in the shop window, as the seating is best for my disability. I am unsure what the main tearoom downstairs is like. Wheelchair access would be difficult. The shop is crammed with healthy foods for sale. The shop area is small. They specialise in cheese There is a very... More

Love a trip to Grannies when we're in the area. Lots of choice on the menu, seating comfortable and there's lots of items to buy too! We bought a few bits to put with Christmas presents and they were well received.

Description
Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen.

Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.
