Popped in here for a toilet stop at the start of a 8.5 mile walk (about 10.30) Really liked the feel of the place and the garden was a sun trap. Really friendly reception from the manager we decided to return for our post walk refreshments later. It was around 3.30 when we were back. Much much busier especially in... More

It's been a while since I visited here due to some fairly mediocre meals and unwelcoming locals. Heard the owners had changed and so glad I did. Popped by mid walk for a Friday lunch. The interior is just how a village pub should be, the staff very welcoming and accommodating, particularly with our dog. Had a mixture of starters... More

We walked up from Cow Roast marina. Dog friendly. Gluten free options. Choice of real cider. Real ale, including local brewery. Good food.

Very good family lunch on a sunny day in the sheltered garden. Efficient and friendly service on busy Mothers' Day. Beer good and the Ploughman's especially delicious.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch while visiting my son and his family. Lovely atmospheric place - a Real English pub. Kids played in the garden whilst we had some good bitter inside. Then excellent roast beef lunch all round. Good service and reasonable price. All round good visit.

I LOVE this pub, I grew up in aldbury and my grandparents live opposite the trooper. The staff are welcoming, lovely and friendly..dogs and children are always very welcome as well. Food is delicious and it has a lovely back garden for in the summer. Would definitely recommend!!!!

Our walking group descended on Valiant Trooper having made a booking beforehand and pre-selected choices from emailed menu. Received a lovely welcome and although we were quite a large party were served with drinks and our lunch choices confirmed without fuss and with a smile. Having scraped off our walking boots on the scraper and brush provided we sat in... More

Friendly little pub, welcoming staff. We ate tasty home-made beef and ale pie with half a pint of local ale. The pie had a decent amount of beef in it which is unusual! Nice coffee afterwards too. A brilliant place to call in for refreshments after a long walk. Dogs welcome.

We went for Sunday lunch, and booked ahead which apparently was necessary. Car park looked just about big enough if the place was busy. Inside there is a bar area and large separate area for dining. Staff OK. Five types of cask beer on offer, good. The ones we were served (brought to our table) were all 'flat' without any... More
