This is a pub I have been visiting for 30 years. There are many reviews complaining about the decor and quality of food. This week I had the steak, cheddar and chilli pie with fresh vegetables on a bed of mash. My partner had the faggots. Both meals were good for pub food and much better than a lot of... More

We went for Sunday lunch on a very cold day last weekend and were amazed to find both wood burners were not lit and had to keep our coats on at first as quite chilly. When arriving at the bar four staff stood together chatting and we were ignored for as least a minute. The young girl who served us... More

I visited on the coldest day of the year and it was freezing.there were 2 big woodburners but they were not lit and we huddled in the corner.there were a few things on the menu for vegetarians but I could see nothing for vegans.the ploughman's was OK but expensive, £9.95. My family had a halloumi burger which was weird.the halloumi... More

We visited for lunch after a lovely walk in the forest. We had the faggots and fish and chips. The food was great. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nice warm fire in the bar. Well worth a visit.

Visited on a Saturday evening chose this place because they brew ale in the premises, disappointed to find only one real ale available, fella who served me was fairly indifferent in attitude. We still ordered food which was ok to be fair, and served by a delightful young lady who couldn't be more helpful. Bloke serving behind the bar last... More

We've been here lots of times but last two Inc this one was poor. We were hoping the last time was a one off but unfortunately not. Yorkshire's no longer seem home made or are hard, beef poor tough quality, veg used to include sweede but plate seems now less, place needs a bit of TLC/paint and clean and although... More

I've been here at least three times; my first visit was in 2004 during a holiday in the New Forest with Chrissie. We were both charmed by the place which seems to appear magically out of nowhere, surrounded by trees and moorland. Inside it was lively and buzzing with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I had two of the pub's... More

Nice comfy pub in a gorgeous location. Met by log fires and found a cosy spot in the corner. The menu looked good and we were taken by the sausage sandwich with onion relish; sadly although the relish was good the sausage tasted very ordinary and was overcooked. For £6.50 we hoped for a local farm sausage (there are loads... More

Really nice traditional pub food, quick service and in a lovely location. In the summer it's rammed so usually have to wait a little while to be served - but that's not a problem!
