We were staying at The Trafalgar Guest House opposite and was advised by them that this pub allows dogs. Very friendly staff, made a fuss of the dogs and brought out a bowl of water for them. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Would definitely return for drinks and a meal when next in the area.

Came in for dinner and pints. We were not disappointed with the venison, the rabbit stew or the lamb dishes. We came on the recommendation of locals, it was a good night.

My wife and I had dropped off our daughter at the rail station and decided to have a spot of lunch. I looked in at this pub and liked what I saw. We had never been before. Two ladies were behind the bar and gave us a warm welcome. We both had ham egg and chips but I was disappointed... More

It feels like a country pub in a side street in a town centre. They had a good specials board and had newspapers to read.

Wednesday night for a curry, was good so booked a table for Thursday. Ordered at 7.30pm, 1 fish & chips, 1 Lasagna. 8.00, first apologies, would be about 10 minutes. 8.15 another apology and an offer of a free drink, not wanted, just wanted to eat. Finally at 8.25 our meals arrived, not impressed with brown, soft chips and fish in... More

Service is good at the Golden Lion with accurate estimates of waiting time. We went for a quick bite to eat. We didn't have any complaints we got what we were expecting -pub food, after all it is a pub. The food is better than the formula chains such as Harvester as it actually tastes of something. I would recommend this... More

A return trip to part with my cash in spite of management telling me to 'stay at home', because last time I didn't say it was great. British hospitality has to try to learn to take on board comments if they are to have any chance of survival in face of a two week trip to Turkey for £200. Sour... More

Hello - I was only wondering the other day when your anti-British head would rise again in Fareham, I have warned all of my colleagues to watch out for your so-called reviews of their businesses - so sorry you seem to have not actually managed to visit the right pub yet again as your last review of my business confirmed... Last minute booking with a friend for a catch up. Amazing home made fish pie, and freshly cooked vegetables. So nice to go to a pub where they serve home cooked food at a reasonable price. They also serve excellent coffee and the service was very friendly. Well worth a visit.

First time at the Golden Lion, live local and it was recommended. Did the main and pudding deal for £11. The roast was very good and enjoyable. We both had apple crumble and custard for pudding. Worse crumble ever had at a pub. Thin layer of soggy crumble, no crunch at all, very heavy. Sadly the pudding really let it... More
