Firstly, the restaurant is not in Newhaven but at Telscombe near Peacehaven. Food was generally good, certainly lots to eat, the only let down being the veg, which was completely overcooked. We dined at 6pm on a Tuesday so the restaurant was quite empty although it did fill up a bit before we left. Service was prompt and the staff... More

We were here recently with friends from overseas who wanted to return as they had enjoyed a previous visit, reluctantly we agreed. They were busy as it was the week after Christmas and they were critically understaffed, but those who we met were efficient and friendly. We swerved a starter as the drinks had taken 20 minutes to arrive and... More

We met friends here for lunch, our waitress was very friendly and helpful, we all had different meals and we all enjoyed our food the portions were generous. The restaurant is reasonably priced. Would return again.

The Smugglers is the same as all Ember Inns, it's nice and the menu has a varied choice serving what I would class as standard English pub food. The drinks choices is good with ales, lagers, ciders and a number of gins. Nice atmosphere although does have the chain pub feel to it

We made our visit at lunchtime (A party of 8) on the Bank Holiday after Christmas. As we arrived I thought this place should be really busy, Upon our arrival we were told by the barman "like I said to the other people, take a menu from the bar find a seat when you've made your choice order at the... I love this pub for drinks, their real ales are great and the service is on par. We are this last visit and well.... never again. It was only Luke warm and to me was all pre packed microwave food. None of us enjoyed what was ordered and none of us finished our food either.. unfortunate as the beers are... More

Visited here for my husbands birthday on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant has a nice interior but it's not very clear whether it's table service or not. We sat down, waited for a while and then went to get our own menu. Returned to the bar to order which took a while as no staff around. The burger we wanted... More

This used to be a favourite. Now they've upgraded the menu and downgraded the food. Their fish and chips used to be excellent. Now it's not even mediocre. It's described as "line caught". If so it was a long time ago! Tasteless. On top was a shriveled bunch of brownish greenery. When I asked why, I was told it shriveled... More

Don't know how this place does any business the service is terrible. The manger has a really bad attitude problem. Went there as a group for a birthday and they messed up the booking, the managers attitude was that we should be happy that he managed to put two odd tables together in a part of the restaurant that they... Great location. Used to be great. Now. ..... shoddy, surly service. Small portions of tasteless food. Vintage Inns normally good. What a shame. Pick it up guys you have a great opportunity at this incredible location.
