I've been to this place many times, initially because it was the first place to get a coffee in the town centre that was dog friendly. I have been back many times, both as a pleasant stop off for a cuppa while taking the dog out and as a place to grab a nice meal with friends/family. The staff are relaxed and incredibly friendly, I love the atmosphere, and whilst the food is a bit more expensive than other places in town (but nowhere near as expensive as some people seem to think) I genuinely believe that it is pretty decent value for the quality. I popped in for a covid secure birthday meal a couple of weeks ago and was not at all disappointed! I am also happy to see that they are relaunching their deliveries for "Lockdown 2 the revenge" which should help make the month of Nofunber a lot more tolerable! Who knows, maybe I will get around to trying one of their awesome looking cocktails!

My partner and i came here for our first lunch date without our newborn baby today. It wasn't too busy and we were seated straight away. Tables are all nicely spaced out so the inside is socially distanced and there's hand sanitiser at the entrance and exit out the back. My Partner had the English breakfast and then we ordered some chips, halloumi fries, teriyaki meatballs and duck from the street menu. My partner is usually incredibly picky and critical when we eat out as hes quite a good cook himself. Ive never seen him this impressed with a meal our entire relationship. It was perfect, not faults at all and nothing to improve on. Well seasoned, flavourful, cooked perfectly, all came out hot. After asking our Waitress Demi (whose service was also excellent) we found out it was all done by an apprentice chef Charmaine who was on her own! To cook such a variety of foods by herself is super impressive. I hope she's promoted soon as she did a phenomenal job. Excellent food, we will DEFINITELY be back.

Thanks Saffron! Great to hear you loved Nine Jars. Charmaine was delighted to read this review and I have been told this has been shared amongst her family and they are all very proud!
Reviews like this really do go a long way, especially after the past months of lockdown etc.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Kind regards,
James

Booked a table of 14 for my Birthday. From booking to hosting us on the night every single member of staff at nine jars was friendly, helpful and accommodating. They really looked after us on the night and didn’t struggle to provide a great service despite the large booking and a very busy restaurant. Starters were delicious, the prawns amazing! Mains were mostly great, a couple of people who had the burgers commented that they were a bit dry and over cooked. Would have been a 5star if not for that. A fantastic night all round, thank you so much Nine Jars. We’ll be back!

Been to nine jars tonight with friends.
Waited for drinks and after 40 minutes had to ask where they were, waited 1 hour & 20 minutes for small plates to arrive to then the waitress come over and say they haven’t got a few of the small plates and if I wanted anything else it would be another 20-30 minute wait.
A friend ordered nachos to then be told no salsa with the nachos. Seems to be most things are always off the menu, 4th time we’ve been with 8 weeks and been pretty bad, but tonight was the worst.
Poor service from the kitchen team, felt sorry for the waitress as many other people was waiting a long time also and she was getting the brunt of it.
Never normally one to write a review or complain as places/ people can have off days but things have happened on many occasions now, it’s not on especially when it’s priced to the higher end.

Hi,
Sorry to read this. On this particular evening we were unfortunately under staffed and had a lot of unbooked walk-ins resulting in an incredibly busy evening for us. We have since put in some new systems to ensure we can minimise this happening again.
I'm glad to hear to like Nine Jars, 4 times in 8 weeks is impressive! So I can only apologies that on this occasion things were maybe not as speedy.
Due to the on-going HGV driver issue, stock levels have been tricky, which is why we may have run out of a couple of the items you ordered. We have had numerous occasions now where our deliveries for the weekend have not turned up! But I feel this is now getting back on track and our deliveries seem to be more reliable... hopefully the world is returning to normal!
I do hope you choose to return as if you look through some of our other recent reviews, I'm sure this was a one off mishap.
Thanks for taking the time to leave this, each review helps us to improve our service.
Kind regards,
James

This bistro has lovely decor. A very snug setting. However, both times I have ever eaten here has been disappointing. The first time, I ordered 'Mexican' steak tacos and 'Japanese' wings. The hard shell tacos were stewed beef and onion gravy with absolutely no seasoning or spices, bland as hell) and they came with half a leaf of gem lettuce, grated cheddar and pot of blue cheese dressing on the side. I can assure you, there is nothing remotely Mexican about that hotch potch! I shared a photo of it to actual mexican-american friends and they found it hilarious. The wings (only 4 drummettes for one portion) again had no seasoning at all, just fried. With a jar of.. sour cream?! Again.. Japanese??! Please research! Add sesame seeds, sweet teriyaki sauce and a jar of wasabi mayo and that would work.
And more recently I ordered a smoked salmon and avocado - I thought you can't go wrong with that.. .straight from the fridge, ROCK hard and FREEZING. Also. bagels need to be toasted. This is not difficult!! And laughably, the smoked salmon was smoked cooked salmon. Meaning it was crumbly and cooked, not really the same!! I did request to get it toasted. Also the coleslaw is full of celery seeds, might be worth mentioning this on the menu.
I can see they are trying, but just a basic understanding of world foods and toasters would benefit.

Hi,
Sorry to read to read this, however I am going to have to dispute what you have written on this occasion...
Firstly nowhere on our menu did we state that the tacos are 'Mexican' they are actually listed as 'BBQ Beef Tacos - served with red onion, cheddar and blue cheese sauce'. They were a very popular dish on our old menu.
Again the wings clearly stated they were served with soured cream and a lime wedge so I do not understand why you were surprised by this? However these have not been on our menu for a very long time.
On to the bagel and again it is exactly as stated on the menu and our most popular lunchtime dish... The salmon is hot-smoked which is why it is flaked. I will however accept the point about toasting it, and bring this to the kitchen's attention.
The reason we do not mention that celery seeds are in our homemade slaw is quite simply because they are not! In fact I can confirm there are no celery seeds in Nine Jars at all and never has been...
Our team in the kitchen have a full understanding of food and a wealth of experience between them, so much so we do not feel the need to always serve the combinations people expect because that can become same and boring, in fact our Teriyaki Meatballs (an infusion of both Italian and Asian cuisine) is always a firm favourite on our specials. We enjoy serving delicious food to the people of Haverhill and many love our food, I am disappointed you do not agree.
Should you wish to return I would highly recommend the Malaysian Chicken!

This bistro has been lovingly furnished in what was a decrepit old inn. Each area has been carefully restored, or improved on, but i a way that pays full homage to it's roots.
Even the bedrooms are beautifully restored, bringing a touch of sophistication to the centre of this old town.
The food is amazing! During the lockdown these wonderful people have provided delivery services including their great street food, and cocktails.
They also took the opportunity to revamp their menu and create a menu that has something for everyone. My family and I are regular visitors, but there is something special about date night, under their covered area, out in the fading warmth of the summer.

We visited on Saturday night with a couple of friends and unfortunately just didn’t have the best experience. We’ve been a few times in the past and never had a great experience with the food but love the vibe of this place so continue to give it a chance. Once again the food was poor and severely overpriced for the quality. Dishes were missing items it stated they come with on the menu and when questioning we were met with ‘it doesn’t come with that’. The few cocktails we had were lovely but unfortunately the place was completely understaffed, and it took so long to take our food and drinks order that we had to grab someone’s attention. Overall, wouldn’t recommend for food, the drinks are nice when you can get someone’s to take your order. It’s really a shame as this place has so much potential.

We tried the Italian menu which seemed a good idea surroundings are pleasant. Ordered drinks & placed our order the restaurant was not full, when the started came there were six pasta Tortellini on each plate it did not look spectacular with a sauce in a small jug which was warm ? it was nothing out of the ordinary. When the main came up I had the meat balls with spaghetti the meat balls were warm & very hard. The wife had Lasagne it was served in an earthenware dish like a meat pie. I am glad it was a set price not very appetizing at all. May go in for drinks but would not rush back for food. Young staff probably need a little training & guidance. Hope it improves

Went here for the first time on Valentine’s Day. The decor was lovely and there was a good choice of food so we had high hopes (although less choice than indicated online and some food was unavailable even though we weren’t told this until after we had ordered and waited for it). Unfortunately we were bothered by a drunk man that the owner/manager was friends with. He came to our table and tried to start a fight with my boyfriend, getting in his face and being really aggressive, while we were minding our business and trying to have a nice meal. The manager thought it was funny, even though I felt really scared, and he begrudgingly made the guy leave when we told him that we would leave if he wasn’t escorted out. It totally ruined the evening for us, I have never felt that unsafe in a restaurant before. How it was deal with was really unprofessional, we weren’t even offered a discount so the service and hospitality was hugely disappointing. The food then came and it wasn’t good at all, the calamari and halloumi fries were clearly from frozen packets, really over-done and overpriced. I imagine this place is nice for a few drinks but the whole experience really ruined what we hoped would be a nice and romantic night. Avoid the food at all costs.

Hi, sorry to read this. I can assure you that the man in question is not a friend, we have actually never seen him before. We were asking him to leave and once he got aggressive we made that happen all the quicker, obviously I can only apologise that you were caught up in that, I can totally appreciate it is not a nice situation to be in.
In terms of the food we usually get rave reviews, and unfortunately we had sold out of the Tempura Prawns earlier in the day.
I do hope you choose to visit again.
Kind regards,
James

Have been to Nine Jars a few times and every I go I think it’s just getting better & better. Love the atmosphere, layout and the staff are always friendly, attentive and seem to really enjoy their work.
Today hubby and I popped in for an impromptu lunch. I wasn’t aware of fish Friday lunch special which was still on when we arrived. What a treat this was.. Fish, triple cooked chips, bread & butter and a drink (house wine, beer or soft drink) all for £7..95. Great deal. Perfect lunch size portion and what an absolute treat to have triple cooked chips at lunch. Just lovely.
We’ve been before for lunch, afternoon tea (fab) and pop in for the odd cup of coffee. Whenever we go, it’s always good. NJ have got it so right, lovely food, great staff, modern, funky setting and good prices. We’re lucky this is on our doorstep but if you happen to be passing, do yourself a favour and pop in. You will t be disappointed.

On Monday the UK reopened for any pubs that could provide outdoor seating. And as regulars we were invited. The new layouts are well handled, with full service being handled with a truly personal touch. Olivia provided a very uplifting service, despite the mask we're all wearing. The table we had was a firepit table, with a gas lit fire burning in the centre to keep us warm and thick fluffy blankets to lay over our knees so that the chill of the evening didn't really affect us.
The food is top-notch. I had a lovely Chicken Ruby Murray (not too strong, and served with a lovely warm Narn bread and Rice. My husband had their lamb shish, which was perfectly cooked! My mum and granddad had burgers, both cooked as requested, and my father had the vegetarian risotto. In terms of food, there was not a single complaint other than "too much!" :D
The only true complaint we had was that as 8pm approached, the music had been cranked up to the point where the noise of the table next to ours screaming at each other to be heard meant that we couldn't even scream over them to be heard. It's hard for people with hearing aids, since they get everything magnified! Even those of us without hearing aids got fed up to the point where we finished our coffee in comparative silence and left fairly soon after.

This is one of our favourite local places for drinks and food. We were really pleased that they were able to provide takeaways and delivery during lock down and the food was always as good as it was in the restaurant. There is a wide variety of dishes and they are always looking to expand their menu to keep it fresh.
Now that lockdown is over we have been back a few times and found it to be safe and very welcoming.
We would recommend to everyone and don’t forget to try a cocktail or 2. 😊

Having eaten in the restaurant before we were keen to make the most of our lockdown anniversary and ordered a takeaway meal. It was fantastic! It was delivered during the day and had clear instructions on how it should be warmed up, all very easy to do.
The meal itself was absolutely delicious, something we wouldn't have cooked ourselves and so a real treat. Made our evening feel special. Would highly recommend the takeaway option now or a visit to the restaurant once things have settled down!

I have noticed during the lockdown that Nine Jars have been brilliant with the services they have been offering the local community. Meals and home deliveries of essentials. Ive tried to get flour from the big supermarkets but Ive been unsuccessful at securing some for a month. Luckily I noticed that Nine Jars had flour for sale so I ordered some and it was delivered and in a safe way. One very happy baker here! Thank you Nine Jars. Fantastic establishment.

Met up with friends and found Nine Jars to be absolutely perfect with their Covid measures - hand gel units, track and trace, seating spaced out and disposable menus.
We had halloumi burgers, mac and cheese and another type of burger (forget which one!) and all were delicious.
Service was slower than usual which I'm guessing is down to the spacing out of tables and only one server.
