We decided at short notice to have overnight stay on the beautiful coast of Suffolk and fancied somewhere we could also enjoy a good meal. After a bit of web searching we found the Ship Inn at Dunwich and made a phone reservation. On arrival just couple of hours later we were warmly welcomed and shown to a lovely first... More

Wonderful fish and chips but so much more eg homemade scotch eggs. When we visit Suffolk we always have lunch here and though they are busy they always manage to fit you in

We stopped midway round on a walk and were glad to find food was served until 3pm. We were limited for choice as we just wanted a snack and they do not do sandwiches so we opted for the cheese platter with a choice of bread or biscuits and were not disappointed. Good selection of local beers and cider

Well The Ship is a hidden gem on the Suffolk coast. Dunwich is so peaceful and quiet. The staff are brilliant. Can't do enough for you and are very dog friendly. The food was lovely. All freshly prepared. Not a huge menu but did us for 2 nights. Room was a little bit on the small side with 2 retrievers... More

Visited here for Sunday lunch - a lovely old pub with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Food was really good and service was quick. A great place to stop off if you're walking in the area.

Called in on Thursday lunchtime in half tern and found the inn fullish, including the rooms at the back and a couple of brave souls in the garden. Slightly cramped seating in the main bar but the fish and chips were good with lighter than normal batter, and the beer was well kept.We were put off slightly by the next... More

After a nice walk with the dog what was better than a couple of beers and some lunch. Friends ate just from the starters menu and I opted for the Haddock.....a little disappointing. Whitebait etc for our friends was well received and the Adnams bitter was excellent.

It all started badly with a bottle of red wine so cold it felt like it came straight from the fridge and soon went downhill from there, starters were tasteless and poorly cooked and in the main served tepid not hot, my starter sounded good { pan fried herring roe with capers, spinach and parsley with brown butter served on... Excellent lunch following long (slightly too long !) walk from Southwold. Herring roes, capers and kale on toast truly memorable washed down by stout in front of roaring fire.......

Thank Martin S
