A lovely evening was had here In The covid friendly outside heated area .
A grazing menu for £20 a head was enjoyed by me and a friend ( and lots of wine )
Two starters each and a large main to share .
A...beautiful surrounding and you felt like you were inside . Tables should be for 4 or more but they accommodated the two of us after a couple of phone calls . Great communication , food , service from Our waitress Darby and ambience . Looking to boom againMore
Ok, so first visit back and they’ve newly reopened and done a lot of work. Our Sunday Lunch was AMAZING. All the trimmings, gorgeous roast beef, one of our sons had Mac & Cheese and ate it in 60 seconds... (he normally eats like a...fussy bird by the way). All safety spot on, sanitisers, mask wearing etc. They’ve created a wonderful outside space for non bubbles with heating etc - booking to meet my brother soon. Staff were brilliant. New chef very very good. So yeah, get back to The Oaksmere - it was great.More
Hi we booked a table with you last evening and it was not a good experience. When we entered the hand sanitisers were not working. We were taken to our table and asked if we wanted drinks. We then waited 15 min to be asked...if we wanted starters. When my prawn cocktail arrived 1 piece of lettace a few prawns and the sauce was taste less . No bread was offered with it and had to ask. We then ordered mains and waited 45min for them to arrive. I had the burger and there was no bacon in it or tomato and no garnish. The guy serving us disappeared and we had to get another waiter. A very disappointing evening had by all.More
The only way you can enter is to go through everybody standing in the door way smoking. We were told there is no where else for them to smoke. Went to the bar then got told had to go to another area to get track...n trace and temparature. So back though the smoke to this other area. We hadn't booked as only drinking but they told us a table was ready so back through the smoke into the bar. Bar staff said no table available even though a few tables had no customers. Back through the smoke as told to wait in conservatory for a table and a waiter will come for drinks order. After 10 mins no one came. However other younger people were going in without masks or checks so we left without being served. This is the 3rd time we have been recently, nothing has improved, we thought it was just staff getting use to new regulations. Such a shame as we used to go there a lot.More
We stayed here last night and it was our fourth visit and stayed in the Cornwallis suite as that’s our favourite.
We were able to check-in at 2 pm the hotel was very busy in the restaurant and the staff seemed a bit flustered we...were taken to our room, we had no heating on and the room was freezing when we arrived the heating system wouldn’t work so we had to go down to reception ourselves as the telephone also wouldn’t work and we were awaiting bathrobes that we had requested so my husband had to go down to the hotel reception, the staff member came up and said the heating system wouldn’t work so they could operate it themselves however they put it on 25° and we were unable to change it at all so we ended up having to turn it off at the wall for when we went to bed.
The room itself does need some money spending on it for example the windows are original but don’t close very well hence the temperature the grouting around the shower is black and with a damp smell the shower gel was also empty.
The bed and the bedding was very comfortable and were very clean as well as the towels we did not eat in the restaurant but we did have breakfast which was delicious five stars we had fresh fruit salad pastries juice and cooked breakfast, we sat in the Avery and had it all to ourselves which was lovely the staff were friendly and the food came to our table very quickly.
Yes we would stay again perhaps in a different suite thank you Oaksmere once againMore
We booked an afternoon tea for a friends 30th Birthday.
Before arrival, I had received an email from reception to confirm our booking and to outline the new COVID guidelines, which I felt was a nice touch and reassuring during such times.
On arrival we...had our temperatures taken which again made me feel at ease in the restaurant.
The afternoon tea was fabulous. We were able to pick a selection of teas, served in filter teapots rather than teabags! The selection of cakes and sandwiches were great. The scones were delicious, very soft and when asked for more Jam it arrived quickly.
The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The Oaksmere ! Probably one of the most terrible dinning experiences that I have ever had. We arrived and I was ponced upon by a very eager teenager with a thermometer, I requested that I would rather she didn't take my temperature and I asked...what she would do with the results ? without hesitation she was in my face, WITH NO MASK ! and laughing said that she would have to throw me out if i had a temperature !I wasn't laughing at this point ! We were shown to our table with a tree in the middle, we had actually requested not to have this table as we have been seated here before. When we told the bald headed man with the beard (assume Manager) he got very defensive and appeared to suggest that it was actually our error, as there was nothing on the book ! We then proceeded to wait in the Bar and with all their over zealous covid testing on arrival any social distancing appeared to go out of the window at this point. The bar staff bar got our drinks order wrong and then phaffed around to get it right. We were shown our table and waited for the most uninterested & poorly informed waitress to tell us what wasn't available from the menu, with our 3rd choice meals chosen we proceeded to wait half an hour for the starters to arrive, shop bought pate and a terrible steak tartare.
We then had the joy of waiting almost 2 hours for our mains to arrive, by which time we really weren't hungry. One of our group was informed by our waitress that the Lemon Sole was sold out, however we sent one meal back and the Chef informed us that he did in fact have a Lemon Sole left, he said it would take 5 minutes so we asked for that, when it arrived I was surprised that it had taken 5 minutes to cook as it really was rather small (£14) ! The red wine took three attempts in asking to arrive and when it did was corked, but i really needed a drink by this point nodded to say it was OK. Enough was enough so said no to desserts & coffee. The WC's were a disgrace with the bin overflowing with paper towels and no soap. Perhaps the management should get the their student workers to clean rather than standing around having a nice chat. In summary do not go here, terrible staff with attitude, average food, overpriced & over rated.More
We were staying with friends in Diss and were delighted that they chose this atmospheric restaurant for dinner. We had a table on the terrace and were politely and speedily served by visored waiters who aimed to please. My partner and I selected the fish...platter which was a real bargain at £20 for a dish which contained oysters, smoked salmon, mackerel pate, crevettes and dressed crab. Our friends had the scallops which they attacked with relish. My main was an excellent pork belly BBQ rib. Not a cheap option but in these Corvid times lovely to dine al fresco - almost like normal life!More
Great Place. Great Gardens Excellent meals 1st class ingredients. The service was non-existent, had to ask twice for everything iced water never appeared. Life is to short to wait so long for our meals and no apology long wait for everything
