A group of us ate lunch here one day. We had a choice of fish or lamb. I took the fish which was well cooked and great flavor. The hostess was awesome, can see why they hold wedding parties there. The House is restored and the gardens looked great. Worth a walk around and a meal.

Decided to go to the movies on this cold day. Bit early so stopped in for a drink at the Oak & Iron tavern. Ordered a Mother’s Milk Shiraz. Hmmm. Didn’t smell fresh even though they had a stopper in the bottle. Tasted oxidised so I took it back. Customer isn’t right here. They said that the stopper that sucks out the air made it last longer and wouldn’t open a new bottle. Well I have those stoppers too and they aren’t the miracle they like to think they are. Movies only next time.

We came here after a funeral at Kleemann’s for a lunch with family and close friends. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Good selection on the Menu, everyone were happy with their food. Very nice venue which can highly recommend.

Booked for the three course Christmas lunch. Arrived at 11.20am for the 11.30 seating.
We were seated at a lovely table at the window overlooking the garden and the table was set beautifully.
Then the service fell apart. We were not offered to order drinks right then and waited for 5 mins then approached the bar to order our own to be told it was table service only. Waited another 10 mins for drinks order to be taken and a few more before they arrived. At this point our orders were taken for food service.
Entree arrived fairly promptly after this at 11.45 and was delicious and suitable quantity for two.
During our wait for mains we were not approached by staff but rather had to flag someone down to order a further drink.
After a 45 min wait our main meals turned up and they were presented beautifully and the food was very nice though not hot and the salt container on the table was empty.. Our main meals were finished and table not cleared for a considerable amount of time.
Again we had to flag a staff member down to place a final drinks order while waiting for another 45 mins to receive our desserts, which tasted nice but were cold.
Staff had no idea were numbered tables were, did not have designated tables to serve, only one staff member behind the bar. Overall for the price tag of $150 per person service was crap and put a damper on our special Christmas lunch.
Would never attend this restaurant again.

Yesterday 5th may and few friends and myself had lunch at the auchendorrec restraunt l told them l had severe celiac disease and confirmed that the chicken salad l ordered would be gluten free they confirmed it would be but l had nearly finished and noticed what looked like a wheat crouton in my meal when l asked the waiter if this is what it was he said...it's only a crouton.. l explained my situation and told him of cross contamination. Last night and today l am suffering from stomach pain and gastro l had nothing else but your meal. Your cook needs to be more mindful of people like me who have severe intolerances. Very upset. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating a perfect atmosphere for both professional discussions and festive celebrations. The menu offered a delightful variety, catering to diverse tastes within our group. The attentive staff ensured impeccable service, making our experience at Oak and Iron Tavern truly fantastic. A very poor salad with our fish and chips. One single, solitary cherry tomato, a sliver of cucumber small than a full slice and the rest a small, fluffy insubstantial pile of green stuff. This rubbish while putting an enormous pile of chips on the plate which, looking around the restaurant an awful lot were left to waste on plates. Have any of those in charge of these meals got anything between their ears?

Travelled from Canberra to attend a 70th birthday celebration and was bitterly disappointed with the very late lunch service.
Having to wait over 2 hours to receive our lunch, once it was ordered, despite being in a large group who had pre-booked the function area, and others who were placed in the same area well after we had ordered being given priority over the birthday guest, and additionally, to add insult to the late service, the meal was served cold and unappetising. Beef schnitzel was over cooked. And guests had to ask for condiments.
The service was less than ideal. Despite all orders being taken with name of guest, the servicers mixed up the orders and confusion reigned. One servicer was quite rude when delivering our meal, providing snide remarks on setting the meal in front of the guests.
When the cake was finally brought out, the server carrying the cake was rude and appeared angry, because he didn’t know where to place the cake, as well as the sparkles being lit and extinguished long before reaching the birthday girls which spoilt the effect. His remarks on leaving the area were inappropriate and uncalled for.
Would suggest reconsidering attending this establishment.

Hey Wallis Family. I love your Wish Upon a Star Sign.. I wished today that your establishment will have better service next time I go there, if I do. Great chairs and table. Great customer service by only two women wait staff. It would seem there is a management issue with this establishment. Very poor customer service from behind the bar. Are the gals overworked or just improperly trained? Teach them to actively listen to and engage with the customer when they are ordering so that they get it right in the first place. Great attitude presented by at least two and the rep from the kitchen who came out to apologise for our late meals (which were not given by the bar staff to the kitchen before closing). Kind of a balls up really. It could be so much better. We don't mind waiting but when so little effort is presented from behind the bar when wanting to place orders for food and drink - it is just easier to eat at home. By the way, you may want to consider putting in hepa air filters in your movie theatres. The movie theatre was a bit stuffy today and I question the air quality in them. It wouldn't be expensive to do and actually a draw card for people who love the cinema. Make it a better place for the sake of the community you not only serve but hope for and expect as patrons.

Oak and Iron has a great vibe. I take my clients (adults with intellectual disabilities) and the staff always make them feel special by treating them as well loved regular patrons. The facilities are always clean, the chairs comfortable and the coffe and cake to die for.

After many months we return to this venue for morning coffee and cake. It seems to be trading under the name ‘Oak and Iron’. The good thing about this place is the ease of parking and access. There is plenty of seating in an attractive setting and a very good range of cakes. We place our order, and our cakes and drinks are soon brought to our table. My only quibble would be that my ordered cappuccino with high froth arrived with a low altitude topping! I checked out the main menu, but could find no Senior’s menu. However, we would come again for coffee and cake.

We love this place and visit again and again. Also love their themed dinners which are great fun and great value.
The Wallis family have done wonders with this place and we will keep supporting them.
Never had a bad meal here!

We went there the other week to catch up with a couple of friends who were visiting the area. We had a nice selection of wines available and good humour with the waiting staff. We ordered the wood oven pizzas and were not disappointed. Great choices from the menu. We did not have to wait long either. Great crusty base and abundant toppings, it was really a nice pizza. The restaurant patrons were evenly spread out due to the Corona virus regulations and of course it is a lovely venue for the hills area.

I love this place because I reckon it has the best pizza in the Adelaide Hills.
I have gone with take away or dining in and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner. And Wallis Cinema is right alongside so you can watch a film before or after your meal.
