Wow! This place is probably one of the best cafes in Adelaide if you want great food & coffee and great service. Set in a cool but classic Adelaide Hills stone building at the top of the Main Street in Mount Barker, you can choose to sit outside surrounded by beautiful trees or inside by the fire in a comfy booth. I’ve eaten here many times and the breakfast and lunch are fantastic - and I hear a dinner menu is on the way! We are so lucky to have a place like this in Mt Barker - keep up the great work guys! 😎👍

Oleaceae staff went above and beyond to create a very special high tea for us catering for vegetarian and non-vegetarians. The decor was beautiful and the staff are very friendly, the food was delicious and the presentation was exceptional. Thank you for catering for our 14 people party, we'll definitely be back.

The staff are so lovely, as is the food. They go out of their way to make sure the experience is a good one for us.
We are lucky to have this place in Mount Barker --we don't choice have all that much choice in the evenings here so we are delighted that they do dinner at Oleaceae.
I have had delicious food every time I go there, and the coffee is the best in the hills.
Thank you particularly for this evening; we arrived to find that we had made a mistake in booking the wrong night for a birthday dinner; the staff here made sure that we could still enjoy a great meal even though they were booked out and could have just said bad luck, your mistake. We will definitely go there again.

Went there on a wild stormy night, seated near bi fold doors, it was freezing! Unable to be moved, offered small blankets. Sat with our overcoats on! Mains took ages to arrive, but was stone cold, it was taken back and probably heated in microwave. Chicken was dry and chewy. Inedible. When we went to pay, they were going to charge full price. Eventually they did take my meal from the bill. Only later we realised we were charged for chips, which we were told could replace mash. Unlikely to go there again.

Friday, lunchtime: Although there is a massive menu board on the sidewalk in front detailing all brunch, lunch and dinner options, we were told that (at 1 PM!) they only did brunch. No mango lassie, no vegan salad, no falafel, but no one cared to make a note of the shortages anywhere. My chicken salad was served on a rectangular wooden board with oil dripping down the sides; the most ridiculous way to serve a salad I have ever seen. The salad was very ordinary, very greasy, with too much chicken and bits of oily broccoli and spinach leaves. The lamb in my wife's salad was full of fat. The meals were too pricey and poor quality. The staff were not dedicated and clearly uninterested in creating a satisfying experience that would make us return. The waitress even checked her smartphone in a corner but for everyone to see, instead of doing things one would expect, like wipe down tables or ask how the food was, etc. The festoon lights in the alfresco area, literally hundreds of them, were lit up in broad daylight, so clearly the staff have no energy efficiency awareness whatsoever. With Mount Barker growing and bursting at the seams with cardboard box houses in heat island housing developments and few dining choices, this dining situation looks like it can get a whole lot worse. Better dine in Adelaide next time.

I'm not one for writing restaurant reviews, last one was nearly 40 years ago (professionally), but last nights experience deserves comment. My wife and I booked a specific table for 7.00pm and arrived on time. The response was your table is not ready and could we wait OUTSIDE in the wet, freezing cold. No. The wait staff then continued their conversation in hushed tones 'but they want to sit at table 42'. What's up, was a murder committed there? The table was empty except for two grubby place mats. We sat down and after a few minutes ordered drinks. They got that wrong. Carolyn ordered a glass of wine but she got a bottle. Thanks to screw tops we could take it home and yes, cheaper than buying by the glass. We ordered our entrees and mains. Indifferent quality, Carolyn's haloumi was rubbery and the chorizo was 'different'. When they cleared the dishes we were asked to keep our cutlery. Don't think so, we didn't even have side plates. They messed up the mains. I ordered goat and got gnocchi (suppose it starts with a G) and whilst I waited for my replacement Carolyn's steak went cold. Fresh cutlery was now provided although Carolyn had to request a steak knife. A bottle of fresh water belatedly appeared. My goat was presented on a huge black board which took up half the table. Most awkward and overall the presentation was rubbish. Carolyn's sauce for her steak was too thick and stodgy and the rice I had was virtually uncooked. The staff kept apologizing and saying it was because they were really busy. Didn't look that busy to us and was just a poor excuse. Three or more staff looked after us and none of them knew what they were doing. There were two of us so the staff had a 50/50 chance of getting things right. Missed by a mile. Carolyn suggested they might do better at breakfast. Maybe they will but we'll not be their customers again. They need a professional chef(s) and qualified staff. A very expensive mistake

This is such a great Gem in Mount Barker. Casual dining and would be perfect for any occasion - birthdays, anniversaries, date nights and lunch with friends. The food has a home-made touch to it which made the flavours come to life in a different way than what you’d get at a pub or hotel. You can tell this is a family operation and the service we received was excellent, we will be back!

This is a fabulous family operated business that fills a much needed gap in the Hill's cuisine. Amazing and delicious Mediterranean style food serving breakfast to dinner. The ' most delicious' barramundi dish I have ever eaten with the simple but most flavoursome Fatoush salad i have had. Just love this place. Highly recommend. Well done Oleaceae.

Absolutely love this place. Their coffee is to die for its so amazing. Their food is also so good, and a beautiful touch to the hills. The only thing I could say for room for improvement is their dinner menu, unfortunately it is virtually the same as the lunch menu. I personally think something with a bit more variety and more"dinner like" would be fantastic.

Thank you for taking time and sharing your lovely feedback! Regarding the dinner menu, it incorporates the burgers from lunch and we have dinner street tapas and mains such Garlic Prawns, Slider Steak, Schnitzel, Spatchcock Chicken, Gnocchi, & more dinner-appropriate items. We will take your remarks into consideration to further improve our menu. We look forward to seeing you at Oleaceae again! Kindest Regards

This place is a little gem based in the heart of Mount Barker. A family run business with the customer in mind. The food is always delicious and the staff are warm and friendly. You can dine alfresco on the beautiful sunny days or snuggle around the open fire on the chilly days. Whatever the weather the atmosphere is perfect.

Went here with a friend for dinner and was so impressed. The service was great, so friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and generous and a special mention to the creme brulee...I still crave it.
The only negative here is the decor. I was initially apprehensive to go because the window signage was so off putting. It doesn't reflect the restaurant and looks more like Cafe Aqua or Fasta Pasta, and the pictures inside of the Greek coast also looked quite tacky.
Apart from this, this is my new favourite restaurant! Love it!

Third visit in three months and the food, drinks and service can not be faulted. Tahlia was wonderful with her table service, very attentive and efficient. Hani is very welcoming with a genuine smile for everyone who comes in the door. Generous serves of everything, with the entrees of haloumi and baked brie truly divine! You will not be disappointed nor will you go home hungy. And they do a great cocktail!

Great food in a great setting. Well separated from the cafe “noise of Mt Barker. I had the lamb kofta burger. And it was delicious, my partner swore by the halloumi burger. Replacing the salads with corn was a good little detail.

Enjoyed some tasty food from the tapas menu. Desert options are good and staff are efficient. The wood fire was not very warming and the restaurant is very cold. This is a shame as it could be a cozy place where one would otherwise linger.

A group of four went for lunch on Sunday. We were so impressed with the food and the friendly service. Food was tasty and portions were generous and service was excellent.
Good selection of wines and beer, so glad that Mount Barker finally has a good place to eat. Going to try breakfast next.
